Bolin Bolin Billabong Lake 4K 5000 Years Wurundjeri Historical Site - Autel Evo 2 Pro Drone Footage
Last Sunday I filmed Bolin Bolin Billabong in Melbourne (in Bulleen) for someone and I used some of my shots to make this video of this historic location. I didn't know it even existed but it turns out that it is one of the last remaining Billabong's left in Melbourne and an important territory for the Manna Gum people for approximately 5,000 years. It is a highly sacred site to the Indigenous Wurundjeri people. Great ceremonies were held here between April and May with more than 1,000 people attending. Ceremonies lasted for four to five weeks and a plentiful food source was needed. The Bolin Bolin Billabong was part of a larger network of billabongs all offering a healthy supply of eel.
It was overflowing with water when I filmed it thanks to recent heavy rain.

Filmed with an Autel Evo 2 Pro in 4K 60fps LOG 10bit H.265 colour mode as the person I filmed this for wanted 60fps but I down sampled this particular video to 4K 30fps for YouTube. Edited with Davinci Resolve, colour using the standard Autel LUT and various adjustments to white balance, lift, gain. contrast, midtone, shadows and highlights.
Safety: I flew safely at all times and within the CASA drone flight rules. I check for other aircraft and stay low (tree top height) or land if there are low aircraft nearby, otherwise no higher than 120m and no closer than 5.5km to a controlled airport, no closer than 30m to people, no flights over people or crowds, keep the drone in line of site and controlled safely, no flights at night. Melbourne and Victoria have been through many floods and storms throughout history. However, one of the most significant and damaging in modern times was that in 1934.
The Yarra River and many other watercourses burst their banks, creating vast lakes of water that displaced thousands of people, killed 36 and caused damage to every single suburb of Melbourne and many other places across the state.
