Walking Tour of Cagayan De Oro city, Mindinao, Christmas in the Philippines
In this video I explore the streets of Cagayan de Oro, a 1st class highly urbanized city in the region of Northern Mindanao, Philippines. CDO is the capital of the province of Misamis Oriental where it is geographically situated but governed administratively independent from the provincial government.
According to the 2020 census, CDO has a population of over 728,000.
It is a vibrant multi-cultural city with over 50 mosques dotted around the city. I love cities. I walk each day for hours pounding the streets. I find much more life to see on the streets than a hike up a mountainside. Even if I’m not taking photographs or shooting video I still like the energy and interest that a city provides.
Fortunately on arriving in Mindanao I wasn't asked for proof of vaccination. From there I took a bus to Cagayan De Oro, checked into my hotel downtown, then went exploring the city.
CDO has many Malls, Parks and Churches of interest to visiting tourists.
The Philippines should be on everyone’s bucket list with its beautiful white sand beaches, fabulous idyllic islands, turquoise sea and stunning scenery. The Philippines is a traveller’s paradise and regularly included in top ten favorite places to visit in Asia and affordable, favorite world holiday destination.
Many foreigners/expats choose the Philippines as the best country to retire in Asia and live in paradise. The Philippines is one of the cheapest countries to live in the world with its low cost of living and all year sunshine. Retiring in the Philippines is affordable on a budget of less than $1000 per month.
Filipinos are welcome and warm people. Filipinos are often regarded as the most friendliest nation in Asia and nicest people in the world. English is widely spoken throughout the country. The Philippines is included in the top ten English speaking countries in the world. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends.

The Php 4 Billion Cagayan De Oro Coastal Road // The Northern Mindanao Coastal Highway
Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar opened the Cagayan de Oro Coastal Road, a project which has started in 1997 on November 10.
“The Construction of the 12.77 KM Cagayan de Oro Coastal Road will serve as a bypass road starting from Brgy. Gusa in the eastern side all the way to the western side in Brgy. Igpit, Opol in Misamis Oriental, thus connecting six (6) barangays in the city and two (2) barangays in Opol,” Villar noted.
“The project will reduce travel time from Laguindingan Airport to city proper to 20 minutes,” he added.
The CDO Coastal Road has been suspended prior due to unresolved RROW issues. The Lapasan section has been negotiated and demolished on August 25.
“The 4B project is expected to ease access in the Eastern Side of Macajalar Bay in CDO, Gingoog in Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental, and CARAGA,” Villar said.
“The project is expected to reduce travel cost by 30 percent within the region,” he added.
While the Gusa-Agora Section of the Coastal Road will be opened this November, the construction of the Agora-PPA-Corrales section is still on going.
This 2017, two projects are still ongoing in the eastern side in Lapasan and another in Puntod section. (DPWH)
