BEST RV BEACH CAMPING IN S.C. (EDISTO BEACH STATE PARK) | FULL-TIME RV LIVING

???? Really needed an RV beach camping trip!

???? Edisto Beach State Park in one of four oceanfront SC State Parks. Unlike it’s neighboring beaches in Charleston, this area is much less of a tourist destination. However, if you’re into beach camping this might be the perfect place for you to visit!

Here’s what you should know:
✅ Edisto Beach SP has 2 campgrounds - Live Oak (0.5 mi inland) & the Beach campground. For obvious reasons the Beach campground is the more popular campsite location (just over the dunes).
✅ If you like to have a piece of ????, go ahead and book a spot NOW for the summer because they fill up quick!
✅ If you’re bad at planning far out (like us ????), keep checking the Edisto SP website as you get closer to your trip to see if a Beach campground spot has opened up. If not, Live Oak Campground should have sites available.
✅ Paid $70/night for Beach Campground site. Electric & water but no sewer (they do have a dump station)
✅ Edisto SP is dog friendly and the beach allows alcohol ????

We really enjoyed our 3 nights here and can’t recommend visiting Edisto Beach enough! With fewer people, softer sand and the beach basically to ourselves, we couldn’t have asked the universe for a better experience ✨

Unparalleled Private Estate in McLean, Virginia | Sotheby's International Realty

Presented by TTR Sotheby's International Realty

For more information go to

Rugged granite cliffs and panoramic views of the Potomac River set the stage for this exceptional estate which has been described as one of the most beautiful homes on the East Coast. A private lane introduces the gated entrance which reveals the understated, French Provincial architecture of the residence. Timeless materials including a Vermont Slate roof, copper gutters, and limestone and concrete stucco walls blend seamlessly into the breathtaking natural setting. Custom iron doors introduce guests to a circular rotunda with views to the river and beyond. Galleries extend both direction to the public rooms including the main salon, dining room and soaring great room with sweeping views of the river and beyond. Adjoining the great room, a world class kitchen by Lobkovitch with input from renowned chef, Jose Andres, captures every luxurious amenity, including a circular breakfast room with 180 degree views of the gardens, outdoor pool and the river. A separate catering kitchen provides a full suite of appliances to satisfy the most discerning host. Nearby, an office with unobstructed river views, a managers office, a full laundry room and coat room lead to the daily garage with parking for 4-6 cars. On the opposite end of this level, a spacious salon once again captures uncompromising views of the river to the west and leads to a collectors garage with room for 18-22 cars. This finely finished space also doubles as an exceptional ballroom space for large indoor gatherings.

Designed for outdoor entertaining, the central lawn area was designed to accommodate a large tent for 200+ guests. Beyond, an infinity edge pool captures sunset views, and multiple terraces provide ideal vantage points for the truly spectacular views in all directions of the river, abundant wildlife, and the city of Washington beyond. Additional accommodations for guests or staff are provided in two separate quarters: a two-bedroom unit with a kitchen and separate entrance on the lower level, and an additional guest or staff quarters with a separate entrance located above the daily garage. The estates ideal location just 1.5 miles from the Capital Beltway and 10 minutes to Tysons Corner also provides easy access to both Ronald Reagan National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport. Downtown Washington is less than 20 minutes.

The Cliffs is unquestionably the finest new estate offering in Washington.

From Wikipedia:
Centreville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States and a suburb of Washington, D.C. The population was 74,230 at the 2020 census. Centreville is approximately 20 miles (32 km) west of Washington, D.C.

In the American Civil War, several battles were fought nearby including the First Battle of Manassas, the Second Battle of Manassas, and the Battle of Chantilly. During the winter of 1861 and early 1862 the town was significantly fortified by the Confederacy and served as a supply depot for both sides at various points in the war, and is famous for being the site of the construction of the first railroad ever built exclusively for military use, the Centreville Military Railroad. Centreville was of significant strategic value due to its proximity to several important roads, while its position atop a high ridge provided a commanding view of the surrounding area. The town was frequently associated with Confederate Colonel John S. Mosby, whose partisan rangers used its hillsides and farms as a base of operations, leading to the sobriquet Mosby's Confederacy.

In 1943, Centreville was a small town. As in much of Northern Virginia, Centreville experienced sustained population growth in the 1990s and 2000s. In 2021, the town has grown significantly. There are numerous shopping centers built around the town center.

Buck Hall National Recreation Area SC, tiny but mighty

As we were putting together this video, Hurricane Ian slammed into the South Carolina coast, forcing temporary closure of Buck Hall. But I'm sure we'll be back again, as soon as it's reopened

National Forest Camping at Buck Hall (Great RV Camping)

We didn't know what to expect on the coast of South Carolina; we stayed in the low country at a great hidden gem of a campground. Buck Hall National Recreation Area has a beautiful view and huge campsites. So close to Charleston, about 20 some miles, yet so laid back. It is a perfect place to unwind and enjoy the scenery, boats float by all day on the Intracoastal Waterway!

RV Camping on the Intracoastal Waterway || 45th Anniversary || Dolphin Swims By

We have been lucky to camp at several inexpensive National Forest Service campgrounds lately and Buck Hall Recreation Area is the latest on the list of places we didn't want to leave. It is a small campground with big spaces. With 50 Amp power and water hookups for $10 a night, it's hard to beat the serenity and beauty of this area.

Make sure and subscribe if you would like to follow along with Terri, George(me) & Gizzy on our adventures as we wander the country living full time in our red, 2002 Newmar Dutch Star, diesel pusher RV. I swear, we have to be the only people in a red class A motorhome.
You can also follow our blog at jumpingoffthecliff.com or on facebook via facebook.com/jumpingoffthecliff. We started this adventure in the Summer of 2016.
While our channel is based on living full time in an RV, our subject matter wanders a little like we do;)
I hope you will join us as we wander about. Thanks for watching, subscribing, commenting, etc.

Tips For Hiking the Awendaw Passage of the Palmetto Trail

Tips for the Awendaw Passage of the Palmetto Trail. This Passage is the start of the Palmetto Trail and is a beautiful, easy, 7.1 mile hike. You will have wonderful views of the salt marsh as you walk or bike through pine forests. The trail is well marked, shady and is dog friendly.

Download the Avenza Map for offline use here:

Start: Awendaw Passage Trailhead at Buck Hall Recreation Area: 990 Buckhall Landing Rd, McClellanville, SC 29458 Buck Hall Rec area does require a fee to Park. There is camping for a fee there as well as water, restrooms and picnic areas.

End: Swamp Fox/Awendaw Trailhead: 7476 US-17, McClellanville, SC 29458 There are no amenities here at the Swamp Fox/Awendaw Trailhead other than a nice parking lot.

There is also parking and a trail kiosk at Awendaw Canoe Launch on Rosa Green Rd. just past Mile 4 on the Passage Map. This is just off of Hwy 17. Apparently the road has had several names because Google Maps has the address listed as: 900 20 5 Mile Rd, Awendaw, SC 29429

We were able to bike the trail even as beginner mountain bikers, but it was difficult for us, and there was one minor crash. There were a lot of roots, and some steps up and down to navigate. We had to walk our bikes some and lift them over some difficult areas. Intermediate mountain bikers would really enjoy biking this trail.

We did this Passage in March and recommend it for cooler weather. It can be quite hot, humid and buggy during much of the year. You may have a nice breeze around the salt marsh that cools things off a bit, if you are lucky. You are likely to encounter chiggers, ticks, biting flies and mosquitos nearly all of the year, like we did in March. A bug net and bug repellent is great to have on hand.

We saw several snakes in March. One of them was venomous, so watch where you step at all times of the year on this trail. Keep your dog on leash for their safety. You may also see alligators.

Even though you are walking past water most of this passage, it is swamp water and not anything you would want to drink, even filtered. Fresh water is only available at Buck Hall Recreation Center at the start of the trail.

There are bridges over swampy, low areas so you shouldn't have any deep water to cross, but there can be muddy areas after rains. This trail is very well marked and well maintained.

This is a stunning hike or bike ride! It is kid friendly. There is one dangerous road crossing, just before Mile 5 where you cross Hwy 17 and walk next to the highway for a short distance. There is a wide shoulder at that point, so you can get off the road. You can avoid that by just hiking or biking as far as the parking lot at the Awendaw Canoe Launch near mile 4.

There is an outfitter about 10 miles from the end of the Awendaw Passage on Hwy 17 with supplies and food at: Sewee Outpost 4853 Highway 17, Awendaw, SC, 29429

Charleston SC's Best Trail: Awendaw Passage of the Palmetto Trail

Just north of Awendaw, 25 miles form Charleston SC, is a great trail that winds through maritime forests, pine ridges, and an expansive salt marsh environment. This trail is part of the larger Palmetto trail system extending to the upstate mountains. Muddy in areas, but mostly a good trail with expansive marsh views and boardwalks crossing tidal creeks. The trail is open to hikers and bikers year-round. Good parking at the southern trailhead off Rosa Green Road or paid parking at the Forest Service Campground and Rec area at Buck Hall Landing. Enjoy!!!!

Views of the Awendaw Passage near the Canoe Launch - Charleston SC Hikes

While in Charleston, SC and wandered around the Awendaw Passage which is part of South Carolina's Palmetto Trail. I parked at the Canoe Launch at the end of Rosa Green Road. There was not much time before sunset so I did not get in many miles before heading back to the Awendaw Canoe Launch for sunset.

The Awendaw Passage is a seven-mile trail from the Buck Hall Recreation Area in McClellanville to the Swamp Fox Trailhead on Highway 17. This trail can be accessed from either the Buck Hall Recreation Area, the Awendaw Canoe Launch Trailhead or the Swamp Fox Trailhead.

Elmwood Recreation Area Part 1

In late March we were fortunate enough to visit one of our favorite areas to camp in South Carolina and try out a new free camping destination.

Elmwood Recreation area is located in Jamestown, South Carolina approximately 45 minutes north of Mt. Pleasant just off of Rt. 17. Elmwood offers up to 14 days of free camping on a first-come, first-served basis. There are no dedicated campsites, just plenty of wide-open spaces to make camp. Some have fire rings and some do not.

Food and camping supplies can be found at the Sewee Outpost on Rt. 17 south of the campground. They do sell firewood but it's cheaper at the Tractor Supply next door. Unfortunately, I discovered this after loading up at the Outpost.

Across from the outpost is the See Wee Restaurant, which serves some amazing seafood.

There is plenty to do and see in the area.

* Santee Coastal Reserve
* Buck Hall Recreation Area
* Hampton Plantation
* McClellanville

and other attractions.

Historic Charleston South Carolina is an easy hour drive south.
