10 Most Hated Towns in England

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

The City of Birmingham forms a conurbation with the largely residential borough of Solihull to the south east, and with the city of Wolverhampton and the industrial towns of the Black Country to the north west, which form the West Midlands Built-up Area covering 59,972 ha (600 km2; 232 sq mi). Surrounding this is Birmingham's metropolitan area – the area to which it is closely economically tied through commuting – which includes the former Mercian capital of Tamworth and the cathedral city of Lichfield in Staffordshire to the north; the industrial city of Coventry and the Warwickshire towns of Nuneaton, Warwick and Leamington Spa to the east; and the Worcestershire towns of Redditch and Bromsgrove to the south west.

Bromsgrove

Time For A Walk In This Area

Bromsgrove Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Worcestershire, and around 12 miles southwest of Birmingham, is the town of Bromsgrove.

The first written record of the town comes from the 9th century as 'Bremesgraf'. Bromsgrove is situated at the centre of a large parish with St John's Church standing at a prominent elevated spot. The church dates back to the 12th century and can be seen at the start of the video. During the Middle Ages Bromsgrove was a small agricultural settlement. The right to hold a weekly market was granted around 1200 AD.

Bromsgrove's geographic location made it a popular resting town for travellers typically heading from Birmingham to Bristol and vice versa. This was in the era of the horse-drawn carriage around the 16th to 18th century. Several coaching inns were present in Bromsgrove at the time. A few of the buildings remain, including the striking Tudor House, seen just after the 10-minute mark. Built in 1572, this was originally called The Hop Pole and stood on the High Street until 1840 at which point it was dismantled. Then in 1867 it was faithfully restored piece-by-piece onto its new home on New Street, where it stands to this day.

In the 18th and 19th centuries Bromsgrove became a centre for nail production. The nails were made by hand with the nailmakers typically living in small cottages in courtyards off the High Street. Nailmakers were subjected to 70 to 90-hour work weeks for slender pay. This led to a series of strikes from the 1840s to 1890s. Mechanisation brought about the decline of the industry ultimately in the early 20th century.

When the Worcester and Birmingham Canal was built between 1792 and 1815, Bromsgrove missed out on a connection to the waterway despite plans to do so. Instead the town was left to wait for a railway link. This would come in 1840 courtesy of the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway. The current station in Bromsgrove opened in 2016 and is located well over a mile away from the town centre. Just something to bear in mind if you're planning a visit!

On the high street is a statue of Bromsgrove-born poet Alfred Edward Housman. Housman's poems typically evoked country life around the turn of the 20th century. His most famous work, arguably, was A Shropshire Lad. Written in 1896 it is a collection of 63 poems whose themes revolve around young men dying in battle.

Other famous people from Bromsgrove include Mark Williams and Michael Ball.

Sanders Park, Worcestershire | Exploring England

Sanders Park in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire opened as a park in 1968, it covers 16.3 hectares and attracts over 350,000 visitors per year. The small valley of the Battlefield Brook that runs through the park, has been an important green space for the town for centuries.

The park was named after two sisters - Mary Beatrice Sanders (1856–1951), and Lucy Mary Maude Sanders (1864–1945) who gifted the park to Bromsgrove to be used for the health, relaxation and wellbeing of the people of Bromsgrove.
