Isle of Man by Drone - Sulby Reservoir

Drone Footage of Sulby Reservoir Area - Isle of Man.

The aim is to show there is far more to this island than the TT Races, I love to explore using my Drone and my Motorcycles. My Drone footage even shows me places to re-visit when I view them on the computer screen. Buildings, Valleys, Rivers, Streams, Caves, rock faces that I simply would not know existed until I review this footage. My aim is for you the viewer to also watch these videos and see places that spark that lightbulb moment, they even may make you want to buy a drone and fly the same locations and get closer to those places that I have not yet returned to.

Drone : DJI Phantom 3 Advanced

Apps : DJI Go and Litchi

Editing Info :

Computer : Apple MacBook Pro 15inch Retina (2013)
Software : Apple Final Cut 10

Dam[edit]
The reservoir's dam was completed in 1982. It has a rock-fill embankment 73 metres (240 ft) high.

Geography
It is located in Sulby Glen near the source of the Sulby River, the longest river on the island. Sulby Reservoir is also about 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the summit of Snaefell, the island's highest peak. It is operated by the Isle of Man Water Authority.[1]

Use
The reservoir supplies St Johns, Peel, Kirk Michael, Ballaugh, Andreas, Bride, Ramsey and Laxey. Water can also be pumped to the West Baldwin Reservoir which supplies Douglas and the south of the island.

The reservoir also powers a hydro-electric power station one mile (1.6 kilometres) downstream

An energy recovery system[clarification needed] was installed at the Sulby Water Treatment Works in 2013, to generate hydro-electric power from incoming water.

10 Things NOT To Do in Samoa

Get more Tips here!

The Samoan islands are surrounded by miles of pristine beaches, crystal blue ocean, and dazzling reef. But keep in mind that Samoa is a conservative country, and you should do your research ahead of time. Here’s our list of 10 things you should NOT in Samoa.

1. Don’t Stay Standing
When it’s time to get down to business, you’ll notice that Samoans all sit down on the floor to engage in discussion. It’s also considered rude to eat or drink while you’re standing.

2. Don’t Indulge in Kava
It’s customary to take part in the kava ceremony. This narcotic brew is made with the roots of a pepper plant, and the cup of liquid is passed around for everyone to sip and enjoy. Overindulging in the drink can decrease your reaction times and motor coordination.

3. Don’t forget to brush up on the Culture
Samoan Cultural Village and Knowledgeable guides will take you around through different exhibits where you’ll be given a fun history lesson. You’ll also be taught coconut weaving, watch an entertaining dance performance, and be treated to a traditional meal cooked over an earth oven.

4. Don’t Underestimate a Beach Fale
A fale is a hut on the beaches. You can actually rent one and wake up to the waves crashing right at your feet. These handmade structures range from simple to luxurious, but to get a true experience, you’ll definitely want to stay in the old school version made of wood and dried coconut fiber.

5. Don’t Leave the Water Without Your Lava Lava
After soaking up some sun on the beach, make sure to cover up with a lava lava afterward. It’s similar to a sarong, and it basically covers up your body so that you don’t offend the locals. And keep in mind, the lava lava is worn by both men and women.

6. Don’t Forget to Pay Taefu T Matafeo Store a Visit
Between Salelologa and the north coast, you’ll find a tiny establishment called Taefu T Matafeo Store. Inside, you can sip on some of the best espressos ever, while nibbling on homemade cakes. They also serve up light fare, including kimchi, and they have more than enough icy beer to go around.

7. Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls…Just Joking
Samoa’s backdrop is rich with gorgeous tropical forests that are home to some of the most stunning waterfalls. On Upolu Island, you will find Sopoaga Waterfall at the foot of Lotofaga Village. At the base of the falls, you can also take part in an umu demonstration and coconut husking.

8. Don’t Be Surprised by Beach Fees
In Samoa, the majority of the beaches are owned by families and villages, and they charge visitors a small fee (from 5 to 20 tala) to swim, take photos on the beach, or even wander around the sand. If you’re staying at a resort, you won’t have to worry about this fee at all.

9. Don’t Visit the National Museum on Weekends
This museum should definitely be at the top of your itinerary, but make sure you stop by during the week, because they’re closed on weekends. You can send a special request to ask that they open their doors for you on a Saturday or Sunday, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll honor it.

10. Don’t Enter During Prayer
Prayer sessions can happen frequently, and if you find that you’ve arrived at someone’s home during a prayer, wait outside until it is finished. If you’re inside their home at the time the prayer’s set to take place, you’ll be expected to take part in the service as well.

I CANNOT believe our head waiter did this on our cruise!!!!

Some people are unhappy about the recently announced increase in gratuities on a cruise. This is just one reason they deserve an increase! Our head waiter on Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas went out of his way every night for us. He even cut my daughter’s steak for her.

Isle of Man, 1930's. Film 44496

Isle of Man Publicity film.
Manx Cat (No tail)
An old Manx man sneezes into a handkerchief several times and looks rather sick. A full view reveals him sitting with his feet in a tin bath with a woman working at table nearby. He picks up a brochure of the Isle of Man with the words 'for health and pleasure'. He looks in a mirror willing himself to be well but feeling sorry for himself he takes off his glasses and nods off and dreams. A woman appears at his side dressed rather like a fairy.
The Isle of Man with coastal scenes at Port Erin and the Laxey Wheel (lead mines). A cow grazing in a field, view, and a waterfall. 'The Spirit of the Isle'. A young man asleep dreaming on board ship wakes up as the ship approaches Douglas harbour. Overhead view of the coastal road and beach.
The young man meets a young woman wearing a fur on the promenade and they sit. They then take a ride through streets around the Isle of Man. (back to Old man dreaming). They visit a castle, a river and walk in Castle ruins. Girls play with ball on beach. Lots of hands in the air. They play ring a roses in sea.
Wishing Stone. The man sits and wishes for a kiss. The couple walk over wooden bridge and he picks a flower. (back to old man dreaming and reaches out)
The young couple back at the Wishing Stone look at a book and the custom of a Manx wedding.
Bride, Groom and Guests or villagers are going to the wedding, some on horseback and ladies walk in a long line. Groom and followers are in top hats. At the church (possibly Maughold) the bridegroom and followers arrive on horseback. The men enter in their top hats. The bride's father throws coins to the villagers as a ransom for the bride before going in the church.
The vicar congrtulates the bride and groom coming out of the Church. There is then a race to the Bride's cottage by men on horseback. Back at the cottage everyone is waiting and the riders gallop in. The winner gets a kiss from the bride as a prize with the new husband looking on. The newly married couple kiss. An arch is formed and the couple go underneath, the wedding cake being broken over the brides head (an old custom to bring her luck). Children scrabble on the ground for the cake.
Celebrations, singing and dancing, a fiddler and an old man with a beard singing, another in top hat doing a jig. The couple join in and everyone then dances.
Back sat on the stone the young girl tells him she would love a Manx wedding. They kiss.

We love wedding traditions! From the white wedding dress, to the father walking the daughter down the aisle, just because you're eloping in a non-traditional venue (say - a national park) doesn't mean you can't get creative about including some traditional wedding elements into your elopement wedding. Watch our video for ideas and get creative about ways to personalize your elopement ceremony!

2016 FJR1300 Isle of Man 2016-Pt 10

Welcome! Bride to Ramsey. On this part we continue through Bride and head to Point of Ayre. At the Point of Ayre there is nothing there except for the Lighthouse and a warning tower for shipping. From there you can plainly see the coast of SW Scotland. It's a paradise for wildlife that's for sure. After taking some photos, we head back towards Bride and then towards Ramsey. Thanks for watching. Biker Paul & Lynn!
