La villa de BREST (Bretaña francesa) - Lugares a visitar
Brest está situada al norte de Finisterre, en la región de Bretaña. Su vocación militar y marítima se remonta a la antigüedad, pues en la época del Imperio romano ya había sido una fortaleza romana en la zona. Brest es un puerto militar desde 1631 y uno de los más importantes de Francia. La ciudad combina la tradición celta con el encanto agreste de un paisaje espectacular y una cocina sencilla con especialidades marineras y delicias dulces.
Los nazis eligieron Brest como Base Submarina por su estratégica ubicación, con tres puertos comerciales.
La ciudad sufrió intensos bombardeos en 1944 por aviones aliados, americanos y británicos.
Su centro histórico tuvo que ser reconstruido casi por completo al terminar la guerra.
La calle Saint-Malo resultó ilesa. Es una de las pocas zonas “originales” de la antigua Brest.

Un puente con tirantes construido en 1994 sobre el Élorn, una verdadera proeza técnica.
El puente del Iroise es un puente atirantado de Francia que atraviesa el río Elorn entre Plougastel-Daoulas y Le Relecq-Kerhuon en la RN 165 que conecta las ciudades de Brest y Quimper, en el departamento de Finisterre, en Bretaña.
Castillo de Brest
Es un castillo medieval del siglo once, que se construyó como fortaleza militar, situado en la desembocadura del río Penfeld, en el centro del puerto naval.

Dentro del castillo está el Museo de la Marina.

Puente significativo de Brest, una magnífica obra arquitectónica que corona un conjunto urbanístico espectacular, verdadera joya de la Bretaña Francesa.

La pareja. Sorpresa que no esperas, te la encuentras de repente cuando te acercas a la Torre Tanguy. Muy atractiva, vale la pena visitarla. Y vale la pena conocer su historia, aunque sea a posteriori.
Tour Tanguy
La torre en si misma merece la pena ser visitada, Quedan tan pocos edificios antiguos en BREST!!!!!! El interior tiene una exposición de Dioramas de la vida en la ciudad a principios del siglo XX, los detalles de las calles, las fotos antiguas.
L'Arbre Empathique
Interesante escultura, situada en las cercanías del Museo Nacional de la Marina, encabezando el Jardin de l'Académie de Marine.
Teleférico de Brest
Es un teleférico urbano establecido entre las dos orillas del Penfeld , un río costero que atraviesa Brest y que separa los distritos de Siam y Capucins.
Les Ateliers des Capucins
Les Capucins es el nuevo lugar de cultura y vida en Brest, reflejo del dinamismo urbano experimentado por la ciudad. Los enormes edificios que alguna vez albergaron los talleres mecánicos del Arsenal se han transformado para convertirse en el espacio público interior más grande de Europa.
Rue de Siam
Calle comercial principal de tiendas que abren tarde y cierran muy pronto. Transita continuamente, por la parte central, el tranvía.
Rue de Saint-Malo
Una calle original, que no fue afectada por los bombardeos y conserva el aspecto tradicional con un ambiente muy genuino.
Conservatorio botánico nacional.
De los mayores de Europa, que vela por la protección de las especies en vías de desaparición.
Vallon du stang Alar
Plena naturaleza en la ciudad de Brest. Un parque tranquilo y con un paisaje maravilloso.
Gran Fiesta Internacional Del Mar y los marinos.
En Brest, cada 4 años se reúne una multitud de veleros procedentes de todo el mundo durante la tradicional gran fiesta internacional del mar y de los marinos, que reúne a miles de visitantes.
Museo de Bellas Artes de Brest
Durante los bombardeos en la guerra, esta pinacoteca perdió muchas de sus obras. Además podemos conocer las obras del artista Clet Abraham, famoso por sus señales de tráfico artistica modificadas. La gran sorpresa fue ver Canaletto en ese museo.
Océanopolis
Es una de las atracciones más importantes de la ciudad, con unos acuarios gigantescos.

Brittany, the rugged west of France with picturesque old towns, castles and fortresses and the surf of the Atlantic that constantly laps against its rocky coastline. Its ancient name of Armorika meaning “The land of the sea ” underlines the historical significance of the ocean for those who live in this part of the world.English troops besieged Vitré for many years until the lords of the castle finally paid a high ransom for their freedom. The besieging army thus withdrew. The well fortified town subsequently enjoyed much prosperity and has remained in tact right up until the present day. Le Mont Saint-Michel with its historic buildings and eighty metre high granite mound is like something from a fairy tale. Powerful fortifications surround the small town and the abbey on top of the rock and due to its unique location and architectural splendour this picturesque village is often referred to as the Wonder Of The Occident. Saint Malo is the proud and solemn “Town Of The Corsairs”. Today’s yacht harbour once contained pirate ships that were used to attack unsuspecting merchant ships laden with rich cargo. This old pirate citadel located on the Emerald Coast is built from granite and looks as though it is an integral part of the rock. Dinan is a small and enchanting French town on the banks of the Rance is one of the most beautiful and well preserved mediaeval towns in Brittany. Today, cobbled lanes and several half-timbered buildings highlight the town’s colourful history. Brest was once the most important military harbour and submarine base in France but during the Second World War it was constantly bombed and more than half of it was destroyed. Its rebuilding programme introduced a number of new attractions such as the Océanopolis, a super-modern sea park that features a large number of animals and plants. The western part of France has many faces. The Romans once called it, “The end of the world”. A land of myths, castles, fishing villages and picturesque old towns. Brittany, even today, is a wild and natural paradise!

A Visit to Brest, France
I spent the weekend (Feb 7-9, 2014) in Brest, France. Many French people have told me that Brest is 'ugly' because it is more modern after being bombed in WWII. I personally really liked the city and it has a cool night life as well. Very windy though!
