Day Trip to Brady ???? (FULL EPISODE) S11 E7

Texas stretches for miles, but there's one place that the stars truly are brighter and the folks encompass everything there is to love about Texas. And that's deep in the Heart of Texas. A place where you can reconnect with the simple pleasures of life.

When you’re in Brady, you’ve got to trip 20 miles north on 377 to find the Geographic Center of Texas. While the true center is on private land, there’s an awesome public marker on the Highway. Stop by and feel how Texan and magical it is to be standing right in the center of the best state in the world.

The old jail in the heart of the city is a great place to learn about Brady. Wander through the old cells and see the exhibits on famous folks in town. Then head next door to the Curtis Field Control Tower, where over 10,000 pilots were trained for combat. It’s an amazing tribute to the men and women who served.

It’s only fitting that at the center of Texas there would be a country music museum with personal items from over 125 country music stars, from Bob Wills’ fiddle to Merle Haggard’s shirt. Outside, pretend you’re a rockstar by stepping into Jim Reeves’ tour bus “Big Blue.”

This ain’t like any antique shop you’ve ever seen. It’s a great collection of odd goods collected over the years, like a “cabinet of curiosities.” Items for sale include prosthetic eyes, jars of baby doll parts, weird creepy puppets, taxidermy blow-fish. It’s a must-see for sure.

This is the site of one of the deadliest massacres in Texas history, when in the 1850s, a group of Indians massacred a caravan of settlers. It’s rumored to be haunted by the lost settlers, and people claim to hear the beating of Indian drums and screams at night.

You can’t talk Brady without talking about the World Championship BBQ Goat Cook-Off, and you might even say that smoked goat is a delicacy in this town. Stop into Mac’s where they serve up goat on special occasions, and get it in a platter with moist brisket and tasty sausage links.

Jacoby’s in nearby Melvin gives a new meaning to the term “Feed Store.” With giant steak dinners, homemade strawberry cake and that cozy hometown feeling, it’s everything you love about a small town cafe. If you’re hankering for some really good and flavorful meat, I suggest you get the Steak “Kansas City Style.”

Travel : Trip 100 : Antarctic Expedition - Drake Passage Storm {Huge wave hits ship at 1 min 5 secs}

Movie recorded on an Expedition Cruise to the Antarctic Circle, February/March 2011.

On Sunday 6th March we were sailing through the Drake Passage back to mainland Argentina on our ship, the MS Expedition, when a big storm blew up. The Captain reported it was a Force 12, with gusts of wind upto 70 Knots and 30-40ft waves/swell.

Certainly a lovely and exciting crossing, and totally living upto the name Drake Shake, when storms like this happen on this stretch of water.

Alaska: Anchorage to Seward - Travel Film

Silver Telly Award Winner - Non-Broadcast - Travel & Tourism
2022 TBFF Winner - Best Road Trip Film
Bordering both the pacific and arctic ocean, Alaska has 40,000 miles of shoreline. It’s the largest territory owned by the United States and one of the fishing and freight capitals of the world. If there’s one word to describe Alaska, it’s infinite. Whatever records other U.S. states hold, Alaska will probably beat them. It’s just that massive. Welcome to an endless paradise of rivers, glaciers, active volcanos, beaches, islands, and more animals than any of us can count. If you like being outside and living life on the edge, this is the perfect place for you. Tag along with my wife and I as we embark on a 10 day road trip from Anchorage to Seward. Whale watching, hiking, fishing, glaciers, breweries, and mingling with the locals are all on the agenda. Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy the ride.

PERROT STATE PARK | WisconsinTravel | Retirement Vlog #10

The retirement travel continues as the Retirement Travelers visit to Perrot State Park near Trempealeau Wisconsin during their USA travel vlog. We believe it is one of the best Wisconsin State Parks. They enjoyed camping, running on the Great River State Trail, paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking to Brady’s Bluff and enjoying some delicious Venezuelan Arepas. We believe the Perrot State Park Campsite is one of the nicest we have seen. The Retirement Travelers are on a 2-year journey in their Airstream to visit all the National Parks in the lower 48 states, along with many other amazing places.

ABOUT US:

As the #retirementtravelers, we have always dreamed of traveling, but we never in a million years thought we would become #travelvloggers and start a YouTube channel. But, that is what we did! We work hard every day to become better and create something that others will enjoy. Having a community of friends, old and new, follow our journey is fun and exciting to us.

In 2019, we achieved our goal of visiting every state in the union in our Airstream. We also visited every national park in the lower 48. We are big believers in lists, so of course we plan to see the remaining 12 parks in the next few years.

In 2021, we made the big decision to extreme downsize to just a suitcase and a small backpack, each. We started our journey around the world beginning in Central America. We hope that over the next ten years, we will have seen many beautiful things, made many memories and new friends, and shared the experience with our children and grandchildren.

We hope you enjoy the journey with us. Drop us a note in the comments and be sure to hit subscribe! ???? ???? ????

Stop by and feel how Texan and magical it is to be standing right in the center of the best state in the world.

The true heart of Texas, Brady Texas!
Come hang out with us as we drive around, walk around and look around downtown Texas.
There is a lot of little things to do around Brady, one of which is D & J's Good Ole Days Antiques and Oddities. You can check them out on Facebook - and the shop next to them is definitely worthy of your time, Alley Cat Salvage. I'm not sure if it is the same owners since they are connected but either way, check that side out too :-)

Brady is a city in McCulloch County, Texas, United States. Brady refers to itself as The Heart of Texas, as it is the closest city to the geographical center of the state, which is about 15 miles northeast of Brady. The population was 5,528 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of McCulloch County
When the area was settled in the 1870s, the community was named Brady City after Brady Creek, which runs through town. The name was shortened to Brady when the town was incorporated in 1906. In 1787–88, Spanish explorer José Mares crossed the creek near the site of present Brady. Henry and Nancy Fulcher, the first settlers on Brady Creek, donated land for the townsite in the mid-1870s. Allison Ogden and his father-in-law, Ben Henton, built a store in 1875. A post office opened in 1876. After residents of McCulloch County chose Brady as county seat on May 15, 1876, the town grew fairly quickly. Brady had about 50 residents in 1877, and a stone courthouse was completed in 1878.

Thomas Maples began weekly publication of The Brady Sentinel in 1880; by 1884, Brady had two churches, a district school, three stores, two hotels, and 300 residents.

Stock raising was the primary occupation in the Brady area before 1900. In the 1870s and 1880s, local ranchers drove their cattle to markets in Kansas. Most other trade was with Brownwood and Lampasas. The number of farms and fences increased with the influx of immigrants in the late 1880s and 1890s. Poultry, sheep, goats, cotton, and pecans joined cattle as important sources of income for area residents.

When the Fort Worth and Rio Grande Railway arrived in 1903, Brady became a principal shipping point for Central Texas. The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe came to Brady in 1912. By 1914, the town had grown to include four churches, two schools, two banks, several processing plants, manufacturing and supply outlets, and 2,669 residents. In 1926, Brady residents celebrated the building of 42-acre Richards Park by holding a two-day barbecue on the Fourth of July weekend; it was such a success that the celebration was labeled the July Jubilee and became an annual event.

Curtis Field opened just north of Brady in 1942 as a pilot-training school. Also during World War II, a German prisoner-of-war camp was built 3 miles east of the town; it housed more than 300 Germans, most of them members of Rommel's Afrika Korps.

Brady grew slowly from the 1920s through the 1950s, with population estimates reaching a peak of 6,800 in 1958. In 1959, the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway abandoned the section of track between Brownwood and Brady, thereby reducing Brady's access to outside markets. The population fell to 5,338 by 1961, and subsequently stabilized. Brady Reservoir was completed in 1963 for flood control, municipal and industrial water needs, and recreation. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe abandoned the track between Brady and Eden in 1972, leaving the town with only a branch track to connect it with the main line at Lometa, in Lampasas County.

Brady had 5,925 residents and 142 businesses in 1988. It was principally a farming and ranching community. Its industry included a mohair-combing plant and sand-mining operations. The Francis King Art Gallery and Museum houses works by King, a painter and sculptor, and a collection of restored antique cars. The stone courthouse, built in 1900, was renovated in 2009. A horse racetrack, G. Rollie White Downs, opened in 1989 and closed in 1990. Brady's population in 1990 was 5,946, but dropped to 5,528 in 2010.
