One of my favourite towns to visit every time I'm back in Philippines, takes me back to my childhood when visiting my gran and aunt on school holidays. The place is still untouched and it's nice to see the locals still sell the same fruits and crops from 20 years ago.
If you want to see something new there's loads of places to explore around Eastern Samar and they have the most scenic route. Samar is perfect for a great adventure and definitely loads of nice places to stay on a budget.

Minasangay Island // The Pride of Balangkayan
Minasangay is an ecological park and resort that’s found outside the town proper of Balangkayan. It’s a 25-kilometer drive from Borongan, and you’ll have to be very careful when going there lest you miss it. There are no signs pointing to the place, so you better have somebody with you who knows the place really well.
From the highway, you’ll have to drive through a rough narrow road that’s lined with mangroves on the side. At the end of the road is the entrance to the park, where you’ll have to pay a really small fee to enter the place. And then a hanging bridge takes you across the river and then into the Minasangay Island itself.

Divinubo Island also known to locals as Puro Halipot is the waray term for Short Island. You can go there by riding a pumpboat for only 20 Php. Pump boat starts around 7 am and ends before night.

After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Borongan City finally opens Surf in the City 2021 — the first leg of the Philippine Surfing Championship Tour's (PSCT) 2022 circuit.
Surf in the City 2021 will run from December 6-12 with surfers from across the Philippines competing in the first surfing competition since the pandemic started.

On Feb 26, 2021, IATF Res No. 101 was issued. No medical certificate and no travel authority requirement??!! ????????!!
Not all LGUs implemented this so verify the travel requirements first with your LGUs (departure and arrival). For my Borongan trip, I was asked to present Traze App (for domestic flights QR), plane ticket and valid ID.
