Saint-Paul-de-Vence can be seen from afar, with its medieval appearance surrounded by ramparts, at the top of a hill between the Mediterranean and the Grasse Pre-Alps.

Many artists stayed there after the Second World War and brought an international reputation to the village.Today, the Maeght Foundation maintains the artistic vocation of the place.

It is certainly the most visited village in the hinterland of Nice and even one of the most touristic in France.

Located between Eze and Monaco, the town of Eze extends over three cornices with a drop of almost 700 m.

Eze Bord de Mer with its beach shaded by a maritime pine forest is home to many paths that wind between the Belle Epoque villas.

The narrow streets of Eze-Village are lined with old stately homes occupied by artists' or craftsmen's workshops and shops.

From the exotic garden, set in the ruins of a medieval fortress at the top of the village, the panorama extends beyond the Esterel massif. In winter, on a clear day, you can make out the Corsican mountains.

The Grande Corniche is a virgin space between sea and mountain. From this Mediterranean maquis, the gaze embraces the 360° landscape with, in winter, the snowy Mercantour, Italy and Saint-Tropez.

History:
The oldest traces of land use in the town date back to the Iron Age (around 400 BC) at Mont Bastide. Then the destiny of Eze is linked to that of Nice. In 1388, Eze was attached to the House of Savoy and was occupied by Turkish troops from Barbarossa for a few days in 1543. During the War of the Spanish Succession, the armies of Louis XIV destroyed the castle. Eze is attached to France in 1860.

During the Belle Epoque and then during the interwar period, tourists began to visit or stay in Eze. George Sand describes its tormented landscapes, Friedrich Nietzsche finishes his work “Thus Spoke Zarathustra” there, Prince William of Sweden takes up residence at Château Eza from 1923 to 1953.

Today personalities from the artistic world regularly reside in the town. Bono of the group U2, Julian Lennon are among the best known.

Top 10 Cities in Europe

What are the top 10 Cities in Europe? Some of the most fascinating cities in the world are in Europe. You will be able to experience the romantic vibes in Paris and feel the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Florence, for example. Almost, the entire continent is filled with picturesque landscapes, excellent architecture, and some of the most lip-smacking dishes. For a fact, it will be extremely difficult to determine the topmost among European cities. This is partly due to differences in the individual's interests, tastes, and freaks. Regardless of whatever your choice is, here are the top 10 cities in Europe.
10. Madrid
This is a city that has seen a significant increase in tourism in recent years. The best we can say about Madrid is that individuals who visit it fall in love with it because of its wonderful and welcoming attitude. Despite its vast size, the capital and largest city in Spain is very pleasant to visit, thanks to the majority of the city's legacy and points of interest that are concentrated in its historic core.
Various areas around Madrid designated as World Heritage Sites can be visited in a day. The medieval city of Toledo, known as the city of the three cultures, was a place where Muslims, Jews, and Christians lived side by side for centuries. It is considered a must-see on any trip to Europe.
9. Barcelona
Because of its modernist architecture, the city of Barcelona is one of the most desirable destinations in the world. It is 372 miles from Madrid, but it takes less than an hour by plane, with flights virtually every hour. Alternatively, you may use the fast train (AVE), which takes three hours.
It is the site where Antoni Gaud created some of his masterpieces, which draw millions of visitors each year and contribute to the distinctive urbanism of the city. However, there are also more noteworthy areas, such as the Gothic Quarter with its Gothic cathedral or the stunning Cathedral of the Sea.
If you have the opportunity to travel outside of Barcelona, the Monserrat monastery, which is one of the most visited sites, is a worthwhile stop.
8. Rome
There are regular flights from Barcelona to Rome and you may be in the old city of Rome in less than 2 hours if you choose. Rome, the Italian capital of one of the most important empires in human history, has retained an astonishing amount of its historical legacy. This largest city in the country is enormous, and you'll need, at least, two days to see everything, especially if you want to add a visit to the Vatican City.
It appears to be a marvel that huge structures such as the Roman Colosseum and the Pantheon of Agrippa have remained to this day after more than 2000 years. If you want to take time to see everything, you need to sign up for an excursion or guided tour, because the city is so big and has so many places to see.
7. Florence
Florence is another one of those places in Italy that you must see if you are planning a vacation to Europe. It is the birthplace of the Renaissance and one of those places that will surprise you by giving you more than you bargained for, and to which you would gladly return again and again.
The best way to get to Florence from Rome is by train. It takes a little over an hour to reach the heart of this one of the top 10 cities in Europe. There is one visit that you must do whether you are visiting Florence or if you are coming from Florence; you must approach Pisa and climb to the top of its leaning tower.
Additionally, the magnificent village of San Gimignano, a beautiful town with ancient towers, and the famed Piazza del Campo in Siena are both highly recommended excursions. If you are short on time, you can still see Florence in one day and then go on a trip the next day to get to know some of the hidden gems of the lovely area of Tuscany that surround it.

COLMAR, THE MOST ALSACIAN OF ALSACE TOWNS!
Nestled in the heart of the vineyard, its traditional houses, its canals, its flowers, its tasty gastronomy, its renowned fine wines and its charming accommodations make Colmar a summary of idyllic Alsace and the guardian of an art of living where conviviality and hospitality are the essential values of a quality welcome.

Colmar offers you a striking shortcut of more than a thousand years of European history through a wealth of heritage and cultural preservation of the most remarkable. In each season, its rich and diversified tourist offer guarantees you a host of cultural, sports, nature, relaxation, gourmet activities...
At the crossroads of major European highways, between Strasbourg, Freiburg and Basel, at the gateway to Germany and Switzerland, its exceptional location makes Colmar an ideal starting point for exploring the entire Upper Rhine region.

A city to consume without moderation!
For Georges Duhamel (who wrote it in 1931), Colmar was the most beautiful city in the world... It has also often been said that it was the most Alsatian of the cities in Alsace!
Without going into the escalation of superlatives, Colmar undoubtedly remains a quite exceptional city for the richness and variety of its historical and architectural heritage.
3rd city of Alsace by its population, it is located near Germany and Switzerland, between the Vosges and the Rhine, Strasbourg and Mulhouse. The city offers visitors a striking shortcut to more than a thousand years of European history. In addition, Colmar retains, with its 67,000 inhabitants, an endearing aspect of a country town which gives it all its charm.

Colmar, city of art, history and heritage
Despite the vagaries of a turbulent history, the city has managed to preserve an exceptional homogeneity of its historic center which, classified as a protected sector, has benefited from restoration and permanent enhancement. The vast pedestrian area of the old town allows visitors to admire the innumerable riches of a heritage as rich as it is varied, ranging from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

Whether it is the Maison des Têtes (built at the beginning of the 17th century) which owes its name to the 111 heads that adorn its facade, or the Maison Pfister, a beautiful bourgeois residence from the Renaissance period but of medieval design, each of its monuments is unique in his genre.

The religious art of Colmar is also very rich: the Dominican Church which houses the famous Virgin of the Rose Bush by the Alsatian painter and engraver Martin Schongauer, as well as the Saint Martin Collegiate Church are wonderful examples of pure and sober gothic art, of great sobriety.

Strolling through the streets, the visitor, amazed, discovers the many beautiful shops, the shimmering colored roofs... Strolling along the quai de la Poissonnerie, once the nerve center of fishing and the sale of fish, we falls in love with this picturesque district, now called Little Venice.

Èze France - Must Visit Attractions & Best Things To Do

Èze is a beautiful hilltop medieval village in the south of France, between Monaco and Nice. The village is famous for its spectacular views, impressive architecture, and stunning geographical location above the French Riviera.

ABOUT ÈZE
Èze is located in southern France, between Monaco and Nice. The village is only about 12 km away by car from the city of Nice.
The village is located on a hilltop of a high cliff about 1,400 feet above the sea level.
History fact: In 1338, the House of Savoy took charge of the village Eze and fortified it.

10 THINGS TO DO IN EZE VILLAGE
1. STUNNING VIEWS
As you can see from these pictures, Eze is famous for offering astonishing views of the Mediterranean Sea and the French Riviera, also known as Cote d’Azur:

The reason that the views are so amazing from any vantage point in Eze is that the village is located on a hilltop of a high cliff about 1,400 feet above the sea level – with the Mediterranean Sea underneath it. The unbelievable views are everywhere you look :

2. ARCHITECTURE – FORTIFIED STRONGHOLD
But it’s not only the views that capture your eyes, as you’re walking the streets. The village has been built as a fortified stronghold during the Medieval period, and the beautiful architecture reflects that.

3. CHAPELLE DE LA SAINTE CROIX
The structures here are several hundred years old, and the oldest building in Eze is this beautiful chapel: Chapelle de la Sainte Croix built back in 1300’s.

4. HOTELS, SHOPS, AND GALLERIES
There are a couple of really nice hotels right in this hilltop village and lots of shops and galleries, all housed in medieval style buildings.

5. WALKING THROUGH NARROW STREETS AND STEPS
Walking the narrow streets of this town is like being transported back to the Middle Ages.

Be prepared to walk up the hill quite a lot, and then down the hill, on the way back. In this little town, you do need good walking shoes to walk these medieval pathways and steps:

6. GREENERY
The Eze village is also famous for its beautiful greenery like these cacti growing along the wall:

7. EXOTIC GARDEN
If you love botany, Eze has a beautiful Exotic Garden (Le Jardin exotique d’Eze) with lots of exotic cacti and other botanical species. The lovers of botany should definitely check it out.

8. CHATEAU EZA
Eze village has 2 amazing hotels right in the village. We stayed in one of them, Chateau Eza:

This boutique hotel is a renovated 400-year-old Chateau, with rooms and suites all along the hilltop. The views from the rooms are nothing short of spectacular. The hotel has a great restaurant and a beautiful deck where you can hang out, drink champagne cocktails, enjoy the views, and be very French. ????

9. CHÂTEAU DE LA CHÈVRE D’OR
Another notable hotel in Eze is Château de La Chèvre d’Or:
Château de La Chèvre d’Or is famous for its stunningly beautiful gardens with exotic animal statues. This hotel also has a bar and restaurant where you can relax and enjoy the views while drinking French wine.

10. NIETZSCHE PATH
Nietzsche path is a beautiful path to the Eze village. The views are amazing, and it’s great exercise! Don’t forget to wear shoes appropriate for hiking, since you have to climb up the hill and then back down the hill.

WHY VISIT EZE
Because Eze is situated so close to Nice and Monaco, it’s a perfect day trip from those 2 locations. If you happen to stay in Nice or Monaco and have an extra day to spare, I highly recommend that you visit Eze village and explore its medieval streets and architecture.

Trip to Eze is a relaxing one. It’s all about enjoying the beauty of nature and your surroundings. Everywhere you look, the views are so different but all spectacular:
