Hi! We're Nico (a Belgian) and Jana (a British-Canadian) and we met in a hostel while each solo traveling through New Zealand. We fell in love, bought a van and traveled around the country together. After plans to move to Europe together in April 2020 were derailed by COVID-19, we spent an extra 6 months in New Zealand first in lockdown and then traveling in our van. In September 2020, the borders reopened to EU citizens and flights restarted so we finally made the move to Belgium where we spend our weekends exploring as much of the country as we can.

Belgium is a small country with a varied landscape. The mountains Ardennes in the south of country and the plains in the north. Nevertheless, agriculture is developed across the country.In the sky over Belgium are almost always a lot of clouds, which give special expressiveness landscapes.

Romania, Transylvania Hay Camp 2015 Part 3
Watch traditional hay-making in Gyimes, Transylvania, where flower-filled hay meadows are cut with scythes and raked with Uncle Viktor's hand-made, wooden rakes before the hay is brought down to the village on horse-drawn carts. Horses and people work hard in this unspoilt village of traditional wooden houses and stoned roads. A colourful village festival highlights the sense of community and tradition.
de Puzzelmankerk in Klein-Willebroek
Tijdens onze wandeling in Boom en Klein-Willebroek brachten we een bezoekje aan de Puzzelmankerk in Klein-Willebroek. Dat hadden we nog nooit gezien, een kerk die diende om spellen en puzzels te verkopen.
De Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Onbevlekt Ontvangenkerk in Klein-Willebroek heeft een stevige geschiedenis. De kerk werd gebouwd in1899, maar werd compleet verwoest bij een hevige brand in 2003. Het gebouw werd opnieuw heropgebouwd, sinds 2009 deed de leegstaande kerk dienst als harmoniummuseum. Nu ook dat verhaal ten einde is, wou Klein-Willebroekenaar Eric Dilles de kerk een nieuwe toekomst geven. En hij is er zeker in geslaagd, als je het mij vraagt.
De Puzzelmankerk is zeker wel de mooiste Spellen- en Puzzelwinkel in de wereld .

Eng: During our walk in Boom and Klein-Willebroek, we paid a visit to the Puzzelman church in Klein-Willebroek. We had never seen that before, a church that served to sell games and puzzles.
The Church of Our Lady Immaculate Conception in Klein-Willebroek has a solid history. The church was built in 1899, but was completely destroyed by a fierce fire in 2003. The building was rebuilt and since 2009, the empty church has served as a harmonium museum. Now that that story is also over, Klein-Willebroeken resident Eric Dilles wanted to give the church a new future. And he certainly succeeded, if you ask me.
The Puzzelmankerk is certainly the most beautiful games and puzzles shop in the world.

ANTWERP AT NIGHT
Antwerp is a port city on Belgium’s River Scheldt, with history dating to the Middle Ages. In its center, the centuries-old Diamond District houses thousands of diamond traders, cutters and polishers. Antwerp’s Flemish Renaissance architecture is typified by the Grote Markt, a central square in the old town. At the 17th-century Rubens House, period rooms display works by the Flemish Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens.

The Castle is in origine from 14th century and have a great historic value in this area.

This beautiful XIIIth Century Castle, out in the countryside, is nestled in lovely parkland surroundings. Co kryje diamentowa stolica Belgii? ???? Antwerpia - atrakcje miasta Rubensa
Ostatniego dnia pobytu w Belgii, postanowiliśmy wyskoczyć do Antwerpii, dostaliśmy się tam bezpośrednim pociągiem z Brukseli. Podróż kosztowała nas 15 euro (za osobę w jedną stronę) i trwała około godziny. Antwerpia to drugie co do wielkości miasto w Belgii i ma naprawdę sporo do zaoferowania turystom.
Po wyjściu z pociągu, warto zatrzymać się na moment i rozejrzeć po budynku dworca głównego - gwarantujemy, że Was oczaruje. Ze względu na swoją imponującą architekturę i bogate zdobienia nazywany jest Kolejową Katedrą. To jedna z najpiękniejszych stacji kolejowych na świecie!
Opowiadając o Antwerpii, nie sposób nie wspomnieć jak ważny dla jej historii jest diament. Miasto nazywane jest światową stolicą diamentów, ponieważ przechodzi przez nie około 80% światowego handlu diamentami. Diamentowa dzielnica znajduje się tuż obok dworca, znajduje się tam wiele sklepików jubilerskich. Niestety to miejsce bardzo nas rozczarowało. Sklepy wyglądały jak stoiska na bazarach. Wraz z rozwojem handlu tym kruszcem, w mieście zaczęło osiedlać się coraz więcej żydów, którzy stanowili większość wśród właścicieli sklepów jubilerskich. Obecnie mieszka ich tutaj ok. 20 tysięcy. To jedna z największych społeczności żydowskich w Europie. W Antwerpii można znaleźć wiele synagog, szkół żydowskich i sklepów koszernych. Po krótkim spacerze diamentową dzielnicą ruszyliśmy dalej zwiedzać miasto.
Kolejnym punktem na naszej liście był kościół Świętego Karola Boromeusza. Można w nim podziwiać dzieła Rubensa - najsłynniejszego malarza pochodzącego z Antwerpii. Jego obrazy można znaleźć w wielu miejscach w mieście. Do zwiedzania udostępniono także jego dom i pracownie, które pełnią funkcję muzeum. Po wizycie w kościele udajemy się w kierunku centralnego punktu miasta, czyli Rynku (Grote Markt), na którym znajduje się ratusz (Stadhuis), którego charakterystycznym elementem są flagi państw które przypływają do portu w Antwerpii. Ratusz wpisany jest na listę Światowego Dziedzictwa UNESCO ale nas niestety nie zachwycił. Przed ratuszem znajduje się fontanna Brabo (Brabofontein), która przedstawia legendarnego bohatera miasta, związanego z legendą o powstaniu nazwy miasta Antwerpia. Najpiękniejszym elementem na rynku są zabytkowe kamienice cechowe z bogato zdobionymi fasadami.
Przenosimy się kawałek dalej – pod katedrę Najświętszej Marii Panny (Onze Lieve Vrouwkathedraal), która jest największym kościołem gotyckim w Belgii. Katedra ma wysokość 123m i może pomieścić 25 tysięcy osób. Wewnątrz katedry można podziwiać liczne dzieła sztuki wśród których znajdują się obrazy Petera Paula Rubensa. Na placu przed katedrą znajduje się rzeźba Nello i Patrasche która przedstawia dwie postacie związane z bajką „Pies z Flandrii”. Bajka ta opowiada o biednym chłopcu Nello i jego psie Patrasche, popularna jest głównie w Japonii.
Kawałek dalej odkrywamy ukrytą alejkę – Vlaeykensgang - to jedno z mniej popularnych ale najbardziej urokliwych miejsc w Antwerpii. W uliczce obecnie znajdują się knajpki i pracownie artystyczne a wcześniej było miejscem zamieszkania najuboższych w mieście osób.
Jedną z największych ciekawostek Antwerpii jest tunel Świętej Anny (Sint-Annatunnel), który łączy dwie strony rzeki Skaldy. Tunel ten został wybudowany w latach 1931-1933 i ma długość 572 metrów. Tunel jest dostępny dla pieszych i rowerzystów, którzy mogą się do niego dostać za pomocą oryginalnych drewnianych schodów ruchomych z lat 30. Druga strona rzeki jest zdecydowanie mniej interesująca ale warto przyjść tu choćby po to, żeby podziwiać piękny widok na panoramę miasta. W drodze powrotnej warto złapać prom – są one darmowe i pływają co kilka minut.
Po zejściu z promu ruszyliśmy w stronę Kościoła Świętego Pawła (Sint-Pauluskerk). Kościół został wybudowany w XVI wieku. Jednak nie sam kościół jest największą atrakcją a jego ogród - Calvarietuin. Przez środek ogrodu biegnie tzw. Ścieżka Aniołów, a dookoła niej stoją rzeźby (63) przedstawiające postaci związane z życiem Chrystusa.
Spacer planowaliśmy zakończyć w porcie. Po drodze zobaczyliśmy instalację „The Whisperer” oraz weszliśmy na punkt widokowy na dachu Muzeum MAS. Muzeum mieści się w nowoczesnym budynku, a wystawy poświęcone są historii i kulturze Antwerpii. Z dachu tego muzeum można podziwiać zapierający dech w piersiach widok na port i całe miasto (za darmo!).
Po zejściu z dachu udaliśmy się w kierunku Port House (Havenhuis), który jest siedzibą zarządu portu Antwerpii. Konstrukcja jest połączeniem historycznego budynku straży pożarnej z futurystyczną bryłą ze szkła i stali. Budynek ma symbolizować dynamikę i innowacyjność portu.
Antwerpia jest na pewno bardzo ciekawa i ma sporo do zaoferowania ale nie skradła naszego serca. Z czterech belgijskich miast które odwiedziliśmy podczas tej podróży jest niestety na ostatnim miejscu.

Family cycling in Peer, Belgium- farming & Bruegel routes
Peer and area in Limburg Province in Belgium makes a perfect area to ease into family cycling with easy and safe routes. Our route of 12 km took little over an hour with our 6 and 7 year olds, with lots of chatting and looking at farm lands around us.

Vlaams kampioenschap Belgische trekpaarden - Flemish championship Belgian draft horses 30 July 2022
Zaterdag 30 juli 2022 tijdens de jaarlijkse Pikkeling in Moorsel had er de prijskamp: Vlaams kampioenschap Belgische trekpaarden plaats. Merries met veulens en hengsten waren er te bewonderen. Gerenommeerde fokkers namen er deel aan het kampioenschap. Moorsel lag die zaterdag onder een stralende zon het was dan ook een boeiend en mooi spektakel. Kijk maar mee.

On Saturday 30 July 2022, during the annual Pikkeling in Moorsel, the competition: Flemish Championship for Belgian Draft Horses took place. Mares with foals and stallions could be admired. Renowned breeders took part in the championship. Moorsel lay that Saturday under a radiant sun, it was therefore a fascinating and beautiful spectacle. Take a look.
Samedi 30 juillet 2022 lors du Pikkeling annuel à Moorsel, le camp des prix : Championnat flamand des chevaux de trait belges a eu lieu. Des juments avec poulains et étalons pouvaient y être admirées. Des éleveurs renommés ont participé au championnat. Moorsel était allongé sous un soleil radieux ce samedi-là, c'était donc un spectacle fascinant et magnifique. Regarde.
