Travel Highlights: Netherlands 2014 Part 3 - Den Haag, Schiedam, Zaanse Schans and Cologne (Germany)
In early 2014 I spent three months in my second home, the Netherlands.
One of the great things about the Netherlands is its location in Europe. From any of the major centres like Rotterdam or Amsterdam you can get to anywhere else in Europe quickly and easily.
In this third and final video featuring footage from my trip you’ll see some of the Constitutional Festival in Den Haag, see how wooden shoes are made, a little behind the scenes look at tv show, Eigen Huis & Tuin (one of my guilty pleasures from Dutch television) and Cologne, one of my favourite cities in Germany.

Rotte River (Zuid-Holland, The Netherlands) #shorts
The Rotte is a river in the Rhine-Maas-delta in the Netherlands. The Rotte is the eponym of the city of Rotterdam: the city was founded in the 13th century when a dam was built along the river.
The river was originally named Rotta, from rot, meaning muddy and aa meaning water, thus muddy water.

It rises in Moerkapelle in the so-called Green Heart. It used to drain the Zuidplas lake until it was reclaimed in 1840. It flows past Bleiswijk and Bergschenhoek; and then the village of Hillegersberg, which was built on a sand dune and was one of the few places in the marsh land that could be permanently settled before the dikes were constructed. In the churchyard there are the ruins of a 13th century castle whose origins probably date back to the Roman Empire. Originally it flowed into the Nieuwe Maas in Rotterdam; however, the lower reach of the river was dammed off and the water now flows to the Nieuwe Maas via several man-made canals.

So unfortunately we did not bathe in Tirta Empul (Holy Water). We apologise if we have upset or offended anybody in any way with this video. We simply want to highlight the importance of doing your research when traveling and visiting different places. In our opinion, we did not get a good feeling from this event and chose to leave quietly and respectfully as we are aware that at certain times of the year they give offerings. We may have misinterpreted this ceremony and for this reason, if you have any information on this ceremony held on the 30th of September 2019 we would love to hear from you in the comment section. We enjoy learning about different cultures and religions this is why we chose to go traveling. Stay safe.
