A walk through the beautiful village of Benthuizen.
Benthuizen has a long history that goes back to the beginning of the 12th century,
For centuries, peat cutting from the peatlands in the surrounding areas was an important source of income for the inhabitants of the village, as is also reflected in the coat of arms of the municipality
(the elongated blocks are peat briquettes).
The walk takes you past historic buildings, national monuments and the beautiful Dutch polder landscape.

Eeuwenlang was turfwinning uit de veengronden in de omliggende gebieden een belangrijke bron van inkomsten voor de dorpelingen, zoals ook terug te zien is in het wapenschild van de gemeente

De wandeling gaat langs historische gebouwen, rijksmonumenten en langs het prachtige Hollandse polderlandschap.

We take a walk through the old historic city centre of Amsterdam. We start our walk at Prinsengracht and walk towards Amsterdam Centraal station.
We will pass several historic old buildings like the Westerkerk, Anne Frank House, Royal Palace of Amsterdam (Paleis op de Dam), Dam Square, Beurs van Berlage and of course the famous Canals.
Amsterdam is the capital of The Netherlands and is one the biggest tourist destinations in Europe. The city is one of the “Venice of the North
Amsterdam owes its name to its location near a dam in the Amstel wich was built in the 13th century.
The place was granted city rights shortly after 1300 and grew into one of the most important port and trading cities in the world during the Golden Age.

Today we are going for a walk through the Rotterdam district of Schiebroek.
This is the place where I grew up and as a child I often played in the streets of the neighbourhood.
Schiebroek is a former municipality in the polder of the same name in the north of the municipality of Rotterdam.
Peat was extracted on a large scale in the 17th and 18th centuries. As a result, it increasingly became a puddle area. From 1773, Schiebroek was turned into a polder by constructing quays, canals and ditches.
The polder was drained by a number of windmills.

Intercity direct over de Hogesnelheidslijn
Iedereen mag aan mij een spotplekje aanbevelen. Dat heeft ook Treinspotter Zeger gedaan. Op zijn verzoek heb ik een kijkje genomen in Rodenrijs waar je heel goed de Intercity Direct treinen op de HSL tussen Schiphol, Rotterdam en Breda kan spotten.
Hier komt zo'n Intercity Direct op volle snelheid langs met 2 TRAXX locomotieven en een aantal ICRm rijtuigen waarvan er 1 een BDS stuurstandrijtuig is dat door verouderde techniek niet meer door personeel wordt gebruikt.
