DAY FOUR in Dallas we woke up at the incredible Westin Galleria and decided to take the day to drive out to Fort Worth and explore it to the fullest. Fort Worth is the next largest city. Here are the top things to do in Fort Worth!

Our first stop in Fort Worth was the Stockyards. This is basically the Wild West of Texas. Everyday at 11:30 am and 4 pm you can see a cattle drive. We then headed to buy some souvenirs.
After that we headed to Cooper’s BBQ, at only a 2-minute walk away it was the ultimate BBQ feast! Brisket, ribs, sausage and lots of beans!
Lastly we headed to the Fort Worth Zoo which is famous for being the #1 zoo in the United States! We saw everything from Asian Turtles, to Lions, Penguins and Lone Horn Rhinos!
On the ride home, our Uber driver decided to give us a quick tour of Downtown Fort Worth.

We know you've probably heard Fort Worth called Cowtown, but did you know it had a name before that, too? Legend is that back in the 19th century, Fort Worth was so calm and quiet that a panther wandered into town and decided to take a nap in the middle of the street. Is it true? We're not sure, but what we do know is that Fort Worth is no longer such a sleepy place. It's a beautiful, lively, busy cityscape, full of shopping and specialty foods and public art.
On November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy gave an impromptu speech to thousands of rain-drenched spectators on the front steps of the historic Hotel Texas (now the Hilton Fort Worth), followed by a formal presentation at the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce breakfast. The JFK Tribute in Fort Worth’s General Worth Square marks the place and occasion of the President’s historic visit with a beautiful bronze statue set within an elegant plaza.
The Fort Worth Water Gardens is a refreshing oasis located downtown, adjacent to the Fort Worth Convention Center. The Water Gardens is an architectural and engineering marvel to be enjoyed any time of the year. Daytrippers can experience a variety of water features as they wander through this relaxing urban plaza.

We all know that Texas is a big state. After all, there is a saying that goes “everything’s bigger in Texas”, which we’re sure you’ve heard once or twice. And with a state that’s so large in size, there are a lot of different cities to explore, visit and learn about.

Join us for a tour of Fort Worth Texas!
Our first stop was a visit with our friends, the Coleys, who we hadn't seen for many years.
Next, we visited the Fort Worth Stockyards 2:25 for a true Texan experience! It was like going back to the Old Wild West!
Afterward, we toured the Cowgirl Museum 9:17, the Forth Worth Museum of Science and History 11:02, the Modern Art Museum 16:18 and ended with a delicious meal at Saviano's Italian Restaurant 14:48.
We also took a short drive to Waco to visit Chip & Joanna Gaines's Silos at Magnolia Market. 17:15

Holiday Park; Benbrook, Texas
Holiday Park; Benbrook, Texas
Holiday Park, an Army Corps of Engineers (COE) park, is just south of Fort Worth off of Hwy. 377.
The park is less than 10 miles from a Super Walmart, so if you forgot anything, it won't be hard to pick it up.
While the park looks empty in the video, our best guess is that it is full in October and November, very popular camping times in Texas. You can easily decide how you want to camp at Holiday Park. The sites vary from no hookups, water only, electric only, water and electric, and possibly full hookups. Additionally, there are screened shelters with electricity.
The picnic tables are on a concrete slab, and they are covered. All the sites have fire rings; however, at the time this video was made, the state had been in such a severe drought that open flames were banned.
The location of this park is really good especially if you are seeing any of the many attractions in Fort Worth or even Dallas. It's relatively close to the Stockyards in Fort Worth. It's also close to the Bass where symphonies and plays are performed. It's not far from Six Flags over Texas in Arlington. You could even catch a Rangers or Cowboys game while staying in this park.
A Virtual Tour Of South Holiday Campground On Benbrook Lake
In the hot summer of 2022 I headed out to visit Benbrook Lake and Explore the South Holiday Campground. On the very last day of July I strapped on the GoPro and stepped up onto Lil' Red the high speed mobility scooter and went for a ride.
With the temperature well over 100 degrees, taking that ride was one of the best things to do! Thanks to the hot Texas summer and a very low lake levels the campground was almost empty and that made for a great ride through South Holiday Campground!
One of my favorite things about the ride through South Holiday Park was all of the many beautiful white tail deer that live in this beautiful park.

A Virtual Tour Of Holiday North Day Use Area On Benbrook Lake
If you are looking for a nice public park in the area of south west Fort Worth, Ya know, down around Benbrook Texas, Yea That area. Well you will be very happy to learn that Lake Benrook has just what you are looking for! The North Holiday Day Use Area is the perfect place to spend the day relaxing and just hanging out.
There is one little thing though, Lake Benbrook is going dry! Or at least it has been super low for the last 20 years due to the long Texas drought. The lake is now so low that most of the boat ramps are closed and the swim beach requires a bit of a hike to get to the water. On the plus side, since the lake is so low there are not very many people who are visiting the day use park.
If you are a cyclist then you might be interested in learning that you can actually ride through the whole of Holiday Park, including the south end as well. The Holiday North Day Use Area still has a whole lot to offer even though the lake is so very low. Come along with me as I explore another interesting and unique U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers park.

The Virtual Tour Of Bear Creek Campground on Benbrook Lake
In the middle of August 2022 I headed out to explore all of the USACE campgrounds on Benbrook Reservoir, Right on the edge of the West Texas scrub-lands. WOW! What a beautiful place! I was so excited to hop onto Lil'Red the high speed mobility scooter and create another virtual tour for you!
There are so many deer in this campground that I had to be careful not to run into any as they were dashing across the road in front of me!! If you want lake access then you will be sadly disappointed because the log drought has dropped the lake so low most boat ramps were closed at the time of my visit! As for campsites. There is something for everyone at Bear Creek Campground and most all of them have great shade to keep things cool on hot summer days
