Halasi (Kannada: ಹಲಸಿ, also Halsi or Halshi, in earlier times also called Halasige or Palasige) is a town in Khanapur Taluk, Belgaum District in Karnataka, India. It is 14 km from Khanapur and about 25 km from Kittur. As known from inscriptions, the ancient name of the town was Palāśikā.[1] A centre of the early Kadamba Dynasty (c. 500), it was a minor capital of the Goa Kadambas (980-1025).[2] The town is notable for a series of medieval temples. The most famous are the Varāha Narasiṃha temple and Suvarṇeśvara temple in the town, and a third temple of Rāmeśvara. On a hill about 1.9 km. south-west of the town is a pilgrimage place known as Rāmatītha.

Kamal Basti, Belgaum Overview
‘Kamal Basadi’ also known as Kamal Basti is a 10th century Jain Temple built under the reign of Ralta Dynasty. The temple was built earlier in 1204 AD by Bichirja, a minister of Kartavirya IV. Two hundred years ago, the idol of lord Neminath was found in the jungle. The temple was built inside the Belgaum fort, along with Chikki Basti, which in the present time remains as a ruin. The name Kamal Basti is derived from the appearance of the temple as a lotus with 72 petals. Each petal consists of the name of the 24 Tirthankaras, for each period, carved on them. Today the monument has become a monumental structure, representing the chalukya style of architecture.
Kamal Basti Timings : 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM
How to Reach Kamal Basti
The fort is located in the northwest part of Karnataka, in the foothills of Sahyadris. The city of Belgaum is located closest to the fort and has well-built air, road and railway facilities. The fort is accessible through buses, rickshaws or even private vehicles from Belgaum. It is located just 2kms away from the Belgaum Railway Station. The temple is located in the fort and is hardly at a 5-minute walk from the entrance.
Best Time to Visit Kamal Basti
The best time to visit the temple is during October to February. The temperature in summer rises to 34°celsius and climate remains hot. In winters the temperature stays between 15° to 20° Celsius, and the weather remains cold and pleasant. Hence most of the tourists visit during winters.
The temple has been under the protection of Archeological Department of India, and the compound of the two temples has been taken care of by a local Jain trust, and daily prayers are offered. This is because of the rich and significant history of the temple. The temple has stood across a vast tenure, maintaining its religious importance. It has been a prime spot to attract tourists and devotees through its spirituality. A visit to the temple not only serves as an exploratory experience but also a divine and spiritual experience.
