BELEM in Lisbon, Portugal: from Pastel de Belem to Torre de Belem ????????????

Belem is a freguesia (civil parish) and district of Lisbon, Portugal, famous for the original pastel de Belem (sold in the shop called Pastéis de Belém) and also for some of the most notable monuments of Lisbon, like the Belem Tower (Torre de Belém), the Jerónimos Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos), the Padrão dos Descobrimentos monument, and Belém Palace (official residence of the President of Portugal). We didn't visit the Belém Palace (next time ????????), but managed to see all others.

Belém is heavily associated with the age of discoveries in the 16th century, when Portuguese navigators sailed to explore the world. It's located about 25 min west of Praça do Comércio in downtown Lisbon if you come by elétrico (# 15E), as we did. Very worth the day trip. But if you're more curious to discover the difference between pastel de Belem and pastel de nata, keep watching as well ????.

The original video is in English, this is an automatic translation to help you watch in your own language. There are subtitles as well, you can activate them by typing C (desktop) or clicking the video, then at CC at the top of the screen (mobile).

Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal, with about 3 million people living in the metropolitan area. It's mainland Europe's westernmost capital and the only one along the Atlantic coast. And Belem's history is deeply connected to the ocean.

► WHO AM I?

I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

P.S.: The funny guy who appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and he's actually camera-shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time ????

Top Foods to try in Prague:

~The #1 best food place you have to eat at that was voted 1 of the top 50 restaurants in the world and has been around since the 1950’s while you are in Portugal is called Cervejaria Ramiro. OMG this place its just so mouthwatering and delicious. Its truly the best seafood restaurant in all of Portugal. Anthony Bourdain ate here and recommended this place back in the day, so you know its that good. We got to enjoy the fresh most delicious cheese and bread while we were waiting for our table, then for dinner got the yummy tiger and scarlet prawns, garlic shrimp, snails, clams, with the most delicious bread.

~You have to get the famous Portuguese Egg Tarts also known as Pastel de Nata for dessert!!

~Francesinha

~Caldo Verde

~Arroz de Marisco

~Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato

???????? MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG:

After one of the most volatile and unpredictable travel years ever, I flew to Brazil in December of 2020. There, I linked up with my friends Guilherme and Rafa from Rio4Fun and Rio4Food for an epic road trip through the southern part of the country, beginning in São Paulo!

São Paulo is the most populous city in the entire southern and western hemispheres, with over 30 million people calling it home. The city’s cultural and culinary identity has been shaped by its significant Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Arab, and Jewish populations.

????SUBSCRIBE TO MY NEWSLETTER:
???? MY LINKTREE:

The diversity in the cuisine is evident throughout the city, from Mercado Municipal de São Paulo, where you can try everything from a pastel de bacalhau to a monstrous mortadella sandwich. And in the Liberdade neighborhood, you can find restaurants selling Japanese-inspired dishes like miso-marinated pork and beef, sake, and takoyaki.

Of course, a traditional breakfast of pão de queijo, pão na chapa, pastel de Belem, and sonho are a must, as is a stop at one of São Paulo’s many churrascarias for some authentic Brazilian barbecue.

Add in attractions like Estado Municipal Paulo Machado de Carvalho, Paulista Avenue, and Batman Alley, and you’ve got a nice amount of diverse things to explore in the city. But instead of me telling you all about it, let me show you my incredible 48 hours in São Paulo, Brazil!

7 - Igreja Nossa Senhora do Sagrado Coração do Monte Formoso

Belém , often called Belém do Pará [ 7 ] ( region initially called Mairi , [ 8 ] Portuguese topology: Feliz Lusitânia ) is a Brazilian municipality and capital of the state of Pará , [ 9 ] founded on January 12, 1616 as the Portuguese colonial village Feliz Lusitânia by Captain Francisco Caldeira Castelo Branco, on the shores of Guajará Bay and Guamá River, in the North region of Brazil[ 10 ] atlatitude01º27'21southandlongitude48º30'16west. [ 11 ] being about 2 120 kmfrom the federal capitalBrasilia. [ 12 ]

The municipality is formed by two parts: the continental area and the Insular area composed of forty-two islands (which are 65% of its territory). Due to being part of the Eastern Amazon, it results in a hot humid climate and in the rainiest capital of Brazil. It is the most populous municipality in Pará and the second in the North [ 13 ] with a population of 1,506,420 inhabitants. [ 14 ] [ 15 ] Classified as one of the capitals with the best quality of life in the North of Brazil, with an HDI of 0.746 (high), [ 5 ] occupying the 22nd position in the ranking ofHDI per capital . Recife Travel Guide - Brazil Exceptional Atmosphere

Recife Travel Guide - Brazil Exceptional Atmosphere

Recife is the capital of Pernambuco, it is one of the largest important cities on the northeastern coast of Brazil. This lively capital, originally founded by Dutch colonizers, is brimming with a vibrant culture, an interesting old town (which includes the oldest synagogue in the Americas) and some nice beaches and LOTS of sharks

Recife stands out as a major tourist attraction of the Northeast, both for its beaches and for its historic sites, dating back to both the Portuguese and the Dutch colonization of the region. The beach of Porto de Galinhas, 60 kilometers (37 mi) south of the city, has been repeatedly awarded the title of best beach in Brazil and has drawn many tourists. The Historic Centre of Olinda, 7 kilometers (4.3 mi) north of the city, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982, and both cities' Brazilian Carnival are among the world's most famous.

Recife is on the Atlantic coast, at the mouth of the Capibaribe, Beberibe and Jordão Rivers, close to the eastern most point of the Americas. The climate is tropical, with two main seasons: dry (September-March) and rainy (April-August). Average annual temperature is 78.8°F, with limited variation. Many tourists stay along the beach in Boa Viagem, 10 km (7 mi) south of the center. The area of Boa Vista just across the Ponte Velha from the train station has a number of budget and mid-range hotels.

Celebrations, holidays and other events are numerous throughout the year. The New Year begins at the beach, Praia de Boa Viagem and in Old Recife. The carnival of Recife and Olinda (which has its historic town centre considered a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1982) begins many weeks ahead in December with innumerable balls and parades.

In the city, the carnival festivities begin in December, as locals begin preparing for the official Carnival, which starts the week before Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday in the Christian liturgical calendar. The pre-Carnival parties usually consist of percussion groups practising in local clubs, city streets and squares, and even Carnival balls. There is a variety of rhythms from different cultures. Carnival officially starts with the Galo da Madrugada, a party in Downtown Recife that attracts many people from several states of Brazil, and other parts of the world.

The Mercado de São José (Market of Saint Joseph) is an old, iron construction with a popular market nearby. In the Fort Cinco Pontes (Fort of Five Points) is the state museum, Museu do Estado de Pernambuco. At the rectangular Pátio de São Pedro are the Cathedral São Pedro (Cathedral of Saint Peter) dating from the year 1782 and restored colonial houses, with numerous restaurants, bistros and bars. In the Bairro Santo Antônio (Saint Anthony neighborhood), at the meeting place of the rivers Capibaribe and Beberibe, is the Praça da República (Square of the Republic) with the Teatro Santa Isabel (Theatre of Saint Isabel), with its neoclassical front, the Law Courts, and the Palácio da Justiça (Palace of Justice). The Casa da Cultura (House of Culture) is an old prison that has been converted into a cultural space and shopping centre. Built between 1835 and 1855, the Malakoff Tower, a monument constructed in Tunisian / Arabic style, used to be an observatory and now is a cultural centre and a place for popular gatherings. It is located at Arsenal da Marinha Square.

Recife has a zoo known as the Dois Irmãos Park, consisting of 387 hectares of Atlantic Forest reserve and 14 hectares of botanical gardens. It contains 800 animals, the Natural Science Museum and various ecological trails. The metropolitan area has also a giant water park 20 km (12 mi) North of Recife, called Veneza water park which has nearly one million square feet of area, ten million litres of water and lots of water slides for the youngsters.

Among Recife's main tourist attractions are:

Churches, historical monuments, public markets including 17th and 18th century buildings from Portuguese and Dutch colonizers;
Francisco Brennand's atelier of ceramic art;
Ricardo Brennand Institute: cultural institute with museum, art gallery and library;
Recife Antigo (Old Recife) buildings;

Campos do Jordão is a municipality in Brazil’s Mantiqueira Mountains and part of the state of São Paulo. It encompasses a city of the same name, where Swiss-style architecture is common, and the Parque Estadual de Campos do Jordão to the northeast. Sprawling over a third of the municipality, the park’s pine forests and mountains are home to a variety of birds and endangered animals, including pumas and ocelots.Vila Capivari is the city’s busy commercial center, with many restaurants and bars. A chairlift leads to the top of Morro do Elefante, one of the area’s highest peaks, for views over the city. Palácio Boa Vista is the winter home of the governor of São Paulo. Visitors can explore its art and antique collection when the governor is not in residence. Sculptures dot the lawns of the Museu Felícia Leirner e Auditório Claudio Santoro. In the southwest, Amantikir Jardins has internationally inspired gardens and a labyrinth.

Weather and Events:
Winter (Jun–Sep) is the most popular time to visit Campos do Jordão, particularly during the Festival de Inverno (usually in Jul), an annual music festival. It is also the driest time of year. The climate in Campos do Jordão is warm and temperate, but its high altitude means it’s generally cooler here than in the city of São Paulo. The wettest time of year is Dec–Feb.
