Knaresborough has to be one of the prettiest towns in Yorkshire. The River Nidd Gorge carves its way through the town and beautiful historic buildings some 900 years old, teeter over the edge looking down at the river. We have visited many towns in Yorkshire in other videos but this has to be one of the prettiest towns in Yorkshire. It has more than just the historical aspects of a Castle and the iconic Knaresborough Viaduct, but riverside walks along the famous former Royal Forest of Knaresborough. Kassel is a city located on the Fulda River in northern Hesse, Germany. Kassel is the administrative seat of the Regierungsbezirk Kassel and the Kreis of the same name. The former capital of the state of Hesse-Kassel has many palaces and parks, including the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kassel is also known for the documenta exhibitions of contemporary art.
Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe includes Wilhelmshöhe Palace (with the Antiquities Collection and Old Masters), the Hercules monument, and the Lions Castle. Wilhelmshöhe Palace above the city, was built in 1786 by landgrave Wilhelm IX of Hesse-Kassel. The palace is now a museum and houses an important collection of Graeco-Roman antiques and a fine gallery of paintings comprising the second largest collection of Rembrandts in Germany. It is surrounded by the beautiful Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe with many appealing sights. The complex was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013.
Another large park and also part of the European Garden Heritage Network is the Karlsaue along the Fulda River. Established in the 16th century, it is famous for the Orangerie, a palace built in 1710 as a summer residence for the landgraves. Today, the Orangerie contains the Museum of Astronomy and Technology, with a scale model of the Solar System spanning the entire park and beyond. In addition, the Park Schönfeld contains a small, municipal botanical garden, the Botanischer Garten Kassel.
Kassel has seven tram lines (1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), with trams arriving usually every 15 minutes. The city also operates a light rail Stadtbahn network called RegioTram using Regio Citadis low-floor trams which run on both tram and main line railway tracks with four lines (RT3, RT4, RT5, RT9). Moreover, a number of low-floor buses complete the Kassel public transport system. The introduction of low-floor buses led to the development of the Kassel kerb which improves the accessibility at bus stops. The city is connected to the national rail network at two stations, Kassel Central, and Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe. The traditional central station (Hauptbahnhof) has been reduced to the status of a regional station since the opening of the Hanover-Würzburg high-speed rail line in 1991 and its station (Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe) on the high-speed line at which the InterCityExpress (ICE) and InterCity services call. Kassel is connected to the motorways A 7, A 49 and A 44. The city is served by Kassel Calden Airport.

he Löwenburg is a built in 1793 pleasure palace in Kassel Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe. The castle, built as an artificial castle ruin , stands above the Wilhelmshöhe Castle in the southern part of the Bergpark and thus south of the visual axis Schloss Wilhelmshöhe- Herkules at about 350 m above sea level. NN on the eastern edge of the Hoher Habichtswald . The Löwenburg served its builder landgrave Wilhelm IX. from Hesse-Kassel as a private retreat and in 1821 also his tomb. In terms of art history, the facility is considered groundbreaking, as one of the first important buildings of the Gothic Revival in Germany.
The castle, which was inspired by a hilltop castle, was designed by Heinrich Christoph Jussow between 1793 and 1801, ie centuries after the actual construction of castles in Germany. It is the imitation of a medieval knight's castle and was built, romantically historicizing, deliberately as an artificial ruin. Initially planned only as a ruinous tower with outbuildings, eventually a complete castle complex was created, which is grouped around a courtyard. The plant served the landgrave as a residence for himself and his mistress Karoline von Schlotheim . In 1821 he became Elector in 1803Wilhelm I raised landgrave buried in a crypt under the castle chapel. Until 1945, the Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Force flew several attacks on Kassel. The city suffered the heaviest attack on October 22, 1943. Due to the armaments industry and above all the dense development in the old town area with the slightly fire-catching half-timbered houses Kassel moved according to the Area Bombing Directive early on the list of cities, for a firebombing attack especially appeared suitable. This was the keepthe Löwenburg mostly destroyed (only the stair tower with some remains of walls remained) and large parts of the facility, including the kitchen and connector construction, severely damaged. Reconstruction in the post-war years was rather expedient and characterized by functionality rather than attention to detail. In 1957 extensive reconstruction work was carried out in the women's building, which had the goal to be able to take up sheltered inventory from the destroyed keep. The works are not finished yet. The keep is currently being reconstructed and is scheduled to reopen in 2022 with a 25 meter viewing platform.
The interiors consist of four princely residential apartments in baroque style. In an armory there are numerous historical weapons and plate armor of the 16th and 17th centuries. The castle chapel is equipped with numerous objects of medieval churches from the northern Hessian environment and has a crypt with the tomb of the elector under the choir. Numerous pieces of equipment of the historical collection, which was outsourced during the war, are still in depots or are exhibited at Schloss Friedrichstein . Their return should not take place until the reconstruction of the castle is completed. The interiors can be visited as part of guided tours.

Bebra dominiert vom sehr großen Bahnhof liegt in einer schönen sanften Hügellandschaft. Durch die schöne Lage nahe der Fulda bieten sich Radtouren im Fuldatal gradezu an. Aber fliegen geht hier eben auch ganz prima.
Wer die Lage genau betrachtet wird feststellen, dass Bebra ein sehr gutes Vorbild für eine Modellbahnanlage sein könnte. Mit Ausfahrten in 4 Richtungen und umliegenden Hügeln wäre dies ein schönes Projekt.

Bebra dominated by the very large train station is located in a beautiful rolling landscape. Due to the beautiful location near the Fulda river, cycling tours in the Fulda valley are very convenient. But flying is also possible here.
If you take a close look at the location, you will see that Bebra could be a very good model for a model railway layout. With exits in 4 directions and surrounding hills, this would be a nice project.

SSN steamtrain leaving Rotterdam, heading for Bebra, Germany
As a volunteer co-working on the maintenance of their engines and carriages, I was a bit watery-eyed (could have been the smoke) to see them leaving without me, for a 4-day excursion to a large steam-gathering in Bebra. This engine is the 01 1075, a 1940 German-built powerhouse with a maximum speed of 140 kph or 87 mph. In Holland, its allowed maximum (safety regulations) is 100 kph but they might get permission in Germany to go full ahead...
I just cleaned three of the carriages you see in the vid the day before, I better make sure to apply early for the next big trip! First behind the engine is a German '60's first class carriage for the personel/volunteers, next two Belgian first class beauties from the '30's, next a mid-eighties East-German Mitropa dining car with full amenities (we even have permission to use the Mitropa name), and a couple more of those Belgian K1's. The Belgian carriages are for the paying enthousiasts - it was fully-booked.
And yes, I waved, so he wistled. :-) Quality of the vid is a bit shaky but I think you'll forgive me.

Im Oktober geht unsere alljährliche Herbsttour nach Thüringen. Nach zwei Tagen der Ruhe geht es heute mit dem Mopped nach Bebra zum Döner essen. Ich habe nirgendwo einen besseren Döner als in Bebra gegessen. Den ersten Teil der Tour waren wir in der nähe von Ziegenrück und den zweiten Teil haben wir in Eisenach verbracht.
