Yoliin am
In this video, we are going to introduce Yolyn Am, one of the must-see destinations in Mongolia.
Named after a scavenging bird of prey, Yolyn am is a beautiful gorge in Omnogobi province.
An ancient river carved this granite valley, and now its remnant streams create ice formations at the base of the valley that sometimes persists as late as July.
Having to see an ice formation and feeling the frigid wind on your face is a rare occasional refreshment in the Gobi desert.
The valley is wide at its entrance, and it narrows gradually into a remarkable gorge. Hiking at the altitude of 2,000 m, is an adventurous activity in this region, and it’s the only way to explore the valley.
Certain kinds of wild animals dominate the valley such as big horned sheep, ibex but you will be more likely to see diurnal birds of prey and other small creatures including Mongolian pika.
And there is a small museum at the gate of the main road to Yoliin Am which display a small collection of dinosaurs, huge Bearded Vulture taxidermy outstretched its wings, stuffed animals of the mountain, steppe, and deserts such as fox, snow leopard, ibex, gazelle, some rodents, and amphibians.
Both the museum and the national park have admission fees.
