O Barreiro é uma cidade Portuguesa localizada na margem sul do estuário do rio Tejo, no distrito de Setúbal. O concelho do Barreiro faz parte da área metropolitana de Lisboa, tem uma área de 36,41 km² e perto de 79 mil habitantes. É constituído pela União das freguesias do Alto do Seixalinho, Santo André e Verderena; pela União das Freguesias do Barreiro e Lavradio; pela União das Freguesias de Palhais e Coina e pela Freguesia de Santo António da Charneca. O município é limitado a leste pelo concelho da Moita, a sudeste por Palmela, a sul por Setúbal e Sesimbra, a oeste pelo Seixal e a norte pelo rio Tejo.
O concelho assume uma posição estratégica de grande destaque, uma vez que dista, por via terrestre, 25 kms da cidade de Lisboa (pela Ponte 25 de Abril), 35 kms (pela Ponte Vasco da Gama), cerca de 30 kms de Setúbal, capital de distrito (pela A2) e enquanto banhado pelo rio Tejo, dispõe de um terminal rodo-ferro-fluvial que é estruturante em termos de mobilidade para a região e para o país, apenas a 7 kms e 20 miutos por transporte fluvial de Lisboa, permite a deslocação de bens e pessoas, pessoas estas, que se deslocam diariamente para a capital, quer seja para trabalhar ou estudar. Deserto Vermelho / Barreiro da Faneca:
Barreiro da Faneca, also known as the Red Desert of the Azores, is an arid and clayey desert, deep red in color, which corresponds to an old lava basaltic drainage overlaid by a layer of volcanic ash. Barreiro da Faneca is a geosite of the Azores Geopark, with national relevance and scientific, pedagogical and tourist interest. It is one of the most visited geosites of Santa Maria and one of the most characteristic geoparks of this island.
These geological formations were intensely altered, especially under the action of the warm and humid climate of the Pliocene period, originating reddish clays.
This zone is integrated in the geological unit Formation of Feteiras, which corresponds to the most recent volcano eruption that occurred on the island of Santa Maria.
This landscape presents a corrugated relief, with gentle slopes and small furrows or ravines, due to the rainwater runoff. In order to avoid the advance of the vegetation to cover the red soil, actions of controlled deforestation have been carried out.
Setubal Best Restaurants, Talho Central Barreiro 2023
Talho Central is one of our favorite restaurants in Barreiro. The starters were quail eggs (a must!) and the O croquete 100% carne de vaca.
The main dishes were: Sirloin steak and K.o.b (Wagyu Australia), both come with salad and french fries and to drink a glass of white sangria. The Sirloin steak is delicious, but the K.O.B. is still good. I prefer steak.
For dessert, we had Oreo mousse, which is our favorite.

Portugal Day 2
Barreiro, Portugal is where we spent our first night in Portugal. We are staying with our lovely Couchsurfing Host Jose.
Couchsurfing is an amazing way to meet locals while traveling. It is usually an amazing experience for all parties. I encourage you to check it out.
The morning takes us on on a walk to explore the nearby local beaches. The view across the river to Lisbon is pretty as we walk along the sandy beaches. You won't find any tourists over here...it's Great! Beautiful empty beaches in Barreiro.
We enjoy lunch cooked by our host. BBQ Steak for Crystal and Fresh, I mean teeth fresh fish for Jose and I. We dine on The amazing outdoor terrace overlooking Lisbon before saying our good byes and continuing on our Portugal Adventure.
Barreiro is a really nice change from the hustle and bustle of the city. Come see the other side of the river!
Next Stop is Sintra!
