Barnt Green Waterways walk- Walking in the Worcestershire countryside.

Barnt Green Waterways walk- walking in the Worcestershire countryside:

Having completed the Hanbury Circular walk and the Tardebigge circular walk, this is the third in my group of walks during lockdown. This time I am completing the Barnt Green waterways walk. This is approximately 5 miles long and takes in a portion of the public footpath walks of both the Barnt Green waterways walk ( a circular route around the villages of Alvechurch and Barnt Green), and the Lickey hills circular walk, which takes in parts of Cofton Hackett and the lickey hills.

Starting at the crown inn Alvechurch, you take a stroll over the nearby footbridge onto the canal, and under the footbridge marked 61. From here; take this canal walk until you reach the boats sign and cross onto the far side. Continue along the canal. until you reach the lower Bittell reservior. This is one of the most tranquil settings that canals England provides this area.

Carry on and Just after one of the tunnels there is a flight of steps. Going up these steps takes you to the upper Bittell reservior. A great place to stop and have a brew. Once refreshed its a slight down hill, through a small woods and briefly onto the main road before taking a left across fields, and play park. You emerge onto the roadway which takes you onto the high street of Barnt Green village. Walk to the end of this street where you take up the footpath again. This takes you up into a field for the steady rise onto the motorway footbridge. Once negotiated you traverse another set of fields and onto foxhill lane.

Carry on along fox hill and take the public footpath to your left, opposite a wooden road sign. This takes you trough and winding alley and back out onto the fields for a gentle decent back onto the car park of the crown inn.

This is one of the great short walks in Worcestershire and shouldn’t take too long if you haven't got time to stop and take in the views.
A word of warning though! When wet this walk can be an absolute monster! So a stout pair of walking boots, gators and waterproofs is a must if you tackle it during wetter days.

Grab yourself a few hours of piece. The Barnt Green waterways walk!

Sim0nTrains Rides | Barnt Green to Redditch

This video focuses on the journey between Barnt Green to Redditch on the Cross City line visiting the stations of Barnt Green, Alvechurch and Redditch

The Redditch branch was part of the former Evesham Loop Line between Barnt Green to Ashcurch for Tewkesbury which opened by the Midland Railway in stages, but most of the line closed to passengers and even Redditch Station was cut back.

The Trains we're travelling on are the Class 323 EMUs which on the Northern sets have hairs on the seats but will these units have hairs on the seats.

Places to see in ( Alcester - UK )

Places to see in ( Alcester - UK )

Alcester is a market town and civil parish of Roman origin at the junction of the River Alne and River Arrow in Warwickshire, England. It is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) west of Stratford-upon-Avon, and 8 miles south of Redditch, close to the Worcestershire border.

Alcester was founded by the Romans in around AD 47 as a walled fort. The walled colonia named Alauna developed from the military camp. It was sited on Icknield Street (or Ryknild Street), a Roman road that ran the length of Britannia from the north east near Hadrian's Wall to southwest England. The town was also just north of the Fosse Way, another important thoroughfare in Roman Britain.

Alcester was also the site of Alcester Abbey, a Benedictine monastery founded in 1138 by Ralph le Boteler. Richard de Tutbury, the last abbot, resigned his office in 1467 and Alcester Abbey was absorbed into the neighbouring Evesham Abbey. By 1515 Alcester Abbey was in ruins as a result of the neglect of various abbots, and later during the Dissolution of the Monasteries Henry VIII it was largely demolished.

Alcester was previously served by Alcester railway station belonging to the Midland Railway (later part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway), on the Gloucester Loop Line, branching off the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway main line at Ashchurch, passing through Evesham railway station, Alcester and Redditch and rejoining the main line at Barnt Green, near Bromsgrove. The loop was built to address the fact that the main line bypassed most of the towns it might otherwise have served, but it took three separate companies to complete, Alcester being on the Evesham and Redditch Railway prior to absorption by the Midland.

In addition a branch line provided by the Alcester Railway company (later part of the Great Western Railway) ran from Alcester to Bearley, thus giving access to Stratford-upon-Avon. This line, however, was an early casualty, closing in September 1939. The Midland loop was due to close between Ashchurch and Redditch in June 1963 but the poor condition of the track led to all trains between Evesham and Redditch being withdrawn in October 1962 and replaced by a bus service for the final eight months. Redditch to Barnt Green remains open on the electrified Birmingham suburban network. Alcester is served by buses from Redditch, Evesham and Stratford upon Avon.

Alcester is also known for two nearby stately homes. To the north is Coughton Court, the family seat of the Throckmorton baronets as well as a National Trust property. To the south-west is Ragley Hall, the home of the Marquis of Hertford, whose gardens contain a children's adventure playground. Kinwarton, which is just north of Alcester, contains a church of Anglo Saxon origin and a historic dovecote, Kinwarton Dovecote, which is also a National Trust property. Alcester is also a significant town on the 100-mile-long Heart of England Way long-distance walking route.

( Alcester - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Alcester . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Alcester - UK

A very unique Mainline: Titbits of Birmingham to Hereford

The too often overlooked Birmingham to Hereford Mainline holds massive variety, from the dense urban core of Birmingham, to the leafy suburbs of Barnt Green, from the Cathedral City of Worcester, to the rural hills of Herefordshire. And with such a fascinating line, there are many unusual little pieces of information, sometimes funny, sometimes shocking, but almost always interesting. So let's take a look at the Titbits of this very important little mainline.

Extra Rail Freight at Barnt Green, 09/08/16.

Due to engineering work on the Banbury line, certain freight services are being diverted via the line through Barnt Green. I thought i'd pop out for a couple of shots, what could go wrong! Semi-bowlage twice, kicked the tripod twice, TSR in the station....not good :-(

Never mind onto the shots, 66118 heads 6X01 Scunthorpe to Eastleigh rail service. There is a speed restriction through Barnt Green at the moment and thanks to Cross country for passing at the wrong moment!

Then GBRF 66732 heads 6M40 Westbury to Cliffe Hill northbound.

Next is not an extra, but it's a Tractor! 37603 heads a test train south, nice power up! Again, not an extra - 66250 heads the Bescot to Alexander Dock Junc. empties.

Then a monster service headed by 70802! Normally 6V46, running as 0V46 Bescot to Westbury engineers. Cross Country in the way again! Didn't turn out to bad.
