Exploring Lisbon & Pena Palace of Sintra | Portugal Travel Guide
A Portugal travel guide and itinerary for the Lisbon area including the beautiful town of Sintra! We visit the iconic Pena Palace, the coastal town of Azenhas do Mar, and the westernmost point of continental Europe, Cabo da Roca, before making our way to the capital city of Lisbon. We'll show some places to see and things to do in Portugal!
Our biggest bucket list item for Portugal was to visit the Pena Palace in Sintra, which is simply majestic and colorful. We think this is where Disneyland castles got their inspiration from! It truly felt like an amusement park for adults as we roamed around the curved Romanticist fort walls and the many terraces overlooking the lush forest and gardens surrounding it.
Our final days in mainland Portugal were spent in the bustling capital city of Lisbon. Here we consistently dined on tasty foods (more Portuguese custard tarts, please!), grazed past stunning architecture alongside the iconic streetcars and climbed the hills for gorgeous views of the city and the River Tagus!

Jardim Quinta Real de Caxias The most Beautiful Garden in Oeiras Cascais Portugal Walking Tour
Quinta Real de Caxias, or Garden of the Cascade, or Gardens of Quinta Real de Caxias, is the main park in Caxias, Oeiras, classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1953.
It is a walking space created around the gardens of Paço Real de Caxias, being an example of the Quintas de Recreio that characterize Oeiras, and currently one of the elements of greatest architectural and historical interest. It is a unique example in the landscape of garden art due to the architectural, sculptural and allegorical value of the waterfall, viewpoint and sculptural groups. His sculptures by Machado de Castro are surrounded by a Versailles-style environment.

Quinta Real de Caxias is considered one of the elements of greatest historical and architectural interest in the Municipality of Oeiras, for being unique in terms of the Art of Gardens in Portugal and for the importance of the waterfall as a whole.
The extension of the Quinta Real de Caxias, in which the gardens are contemporary to those of the Palace of Queluz, was specifically designed and conceived as a Quinta de Recreio. This organization follows the rules of the French garden (à la Française), made up of long avenues, grouped by lakes and animated water games.
These gardens and waterfalls are composed of sculptural elements in terracotta, by Machado de Castro, whose main character is a mythological Goddess Diana, Goddess of Hunting.
Entering a large gate, which gives entrance to the Quinta, you will find the Tritões lakes around it. Continuing on the west side of the gardens, enjoy a beautiful global view of the scenic set of the waterfall composed of terraces, Cegonha pavilion, grotto and tunnels. Walking through the garden you will find the lakes of the four seasons – whose sculptures represent the four seasons and the signs of the zodiac. In the space you can also find two pavilions, the Casa do Poço whose function is linked to a well that supplies water to the garden and the Casa da Fruta where the fruit harvested in the orchards was stored.
As you stroll along, let yourself be enchanted by the murmur of the water that gushes from the sources of the lakes that punctuate the space of the waterfall and admire the space!

It is an oceanic beach in the northern hemisphere, bathed in the Atlantic Ocean, and is situated in the municipality of Oeiras on the Portuguese coast of the Iberian Peninsula.
The northeast-facing Praia Velha Beach, often referred to as Praia dos Pescadores Beach, features a broad stretch of sand. A pier serves as protection for the south side.
A few meters from the shore, there is a water source with a geyser built into the sea.
Clube Desportivo de Paço de Arcos - Centro Náutico's facilities border the beach to the west.
