AIX-EN-PROVENCE, or simply Aix, is a city and commune in southern France, about 30 km (20 mi) north of Marseille. A former capital of Provence, it is the subprefecture of the arrondissement of Aix-en-Provence, in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône, in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
Aix's position in the south of France gives it a warm climate, though more extreme than Marseille due to the inland location. It has an average of 300 days of sunshine and only 91 days of rain.

Aix en Provence, France 4K update

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
France has many beautiful cities. One of the finest, that we will be showing you in this episode is Aix-en-Provence, a town with that special ambience of the outdoor restaurants, the cafes, the pedestrian lanes, the little fountains, the historic buildings, street markets, and all kinds of wonderful sights to explore. We will be taking you there on a daytrip showing you how many wonderful things you can see in only six hours. Of course, if you have more time, this would be a delightful place to spend a couple of nights, or maybe a couple of weeks.
Colorful street markets are one of the fine attractions here, and they happen every day. But the main markets are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. We will be showing you a lot, later in the program.
And we will spend a lot of time walking through those pedestrian lanes, looking at the little plazas, the historic sites like City Hall, fountains surrounded by café tables, and much more.
Aix is famous for its fountains, with several big ones along this main street of the Cours Mirabeau, and the sidewalk restaurants. It's one of the most glorious boulevards in the country.
During our visit the main market square was under renovation, and so everything had moved to this main boulevard of the Cours Mirabeau, which was wonderful. It became a pedestrian promenade with all of the stalls set up and all the sidewalk restaurants along it. Most famously, Les Deux Garcons.
We'll come back to this main street of Cours Mirabeau later in the program, but for now it's time to dive into the pedestrian zone – show you quickly on the map an outline of where we're going, straight up through the main square of City Hall to the Cathedral, then back around and down in a big loop circuit that brings us along some of the main pedestrian lanes, then back to Cours Mirabeau and see more of that fascinating street market.
Turning away from the sidewalk cafes of the Cours for now, we take a stroll into the old town along Rue Clemenceau, a typical street, mostly for pedestrians and lined with shops.
And there's another market one more block further on Rue Vauvenargues called Place Richelme. It's a beautiful little plaza with trees and sunshine streaming in. The natural lighting is filtered by the leaves to give it a golden glow, and another lovely mix of items for sale.
Then you will soon arrive at the prettiest of all squares in town, the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, the City Hall Square.
The clock tower was built in 1510 and became the symbol of local power in the city, towering over the City Hall.
The main pedestrian lane continues north, changing names now to Rue Gaston de Saporta Rue and leads to Aix's main church, the Cathedral of St-Sauveur.

The transit system here has these minibuses, a very efficient way to get around. They can carry seven people, and they have a low floor that makes it easy to get in and out. You just buy your ticket from the bus driver.
Rue Espariat is one of the main streets of the old town, with many more attractive side lanes along the way.
At this point we have just about come full circle in our little walk around the old town of Aix.
Place d'Albertas is named after one of the city's leading 18th-century families in 1724 Henri d'Albertas built his private mansion on the Parisian model of royal palaces. The fountain in the center was created in 1862.
Around the corner is yet another charming spot the Place St. Honore, the usual outdoor café tables with elegant shops around it and some old streets leading off from it.
People love these outdoor clothing markets because you have a tremendous variety of goods for sale, and the prices are generally lower than you'll ever find in a store.
These same vendors usually come back each week catering to mostly local clientele, so they've got to keep the quality fairly decent and the prices very good.
In the other section of the market are the wonderful foods of Provence. You've got a big variety of fresh foods here – your vegetables, most of them grown in the south of France. If it's out of season, wintertime if it's they would be brought in from perhaps the Middle East, or Israel, from Africa, or Italy, but the south of France has got a wonderful climate for growing agricultural products all year round. And one of the specialties is the olive. There must be hundreds of kinds of olives that are produced in France.
As a visitor you're probably not doing any cooking, so you don't need to purchase vegetables, but you might just get some fresh fruits, or some snacks for the road. And there's always some kind of selection of prepared foods that are ready-to-eat, whether it's a simple sandwich, or an elaborate paella. And just to enjoy the people watching here in the scenery the colors the smells the sounds the beautiful buildings all around, it makes for an adventure just in itself.

GIGONDAS - FRANCE, RHÔNE

The landscape of Gigondas is shaped by its unique geology. The wine-growing region is enclosed within the jagged ridges of the Dentelles de Montmirail (dentelle is the French word for ‘lace’ and ‘Montmirail’ comes from the Latin mons mirabilis, ‘extraordinary mountain’). Pushed out of the sea 200 million years ago and subsequently eroded into sharp spikes, the Dentelles de Montmirail reach a height of 730 m at their highest point and provide a dramatic backdrop to the area’s vineyards.

There's plenty to see and do in the region Côte d'Azur. We wanted to share this amazing experience with you so that maybe one day you'll have the information you need to plan a trip to the french riviera!

Aix en Provence -

Biocookin.aix on Instagram ( We dream about their cookies!)
-28 Rue Bédarrides, 13100 Aix-en-Provence, France

Boulangerie Paul ( This is a great snack place. You can find these bakeries all over the french riviera. It like a fancy Tim Hortons but WAY better!)
3 Rue Maréchal Foch, 13100 Aix-en-Provence, France

Rougon, France -

This is the most amazing village we have come across. When you get there parking is on the outskirt of the village but its a very short drive in. This is a very quiet village so remember to be respectful and say bonjour!

Le Mur d'Abeilles ( Creperie) - This small restaurant only makes crepes as their main dish. But they are amazing! You must try this spot to eat after wandering around Rougon.
-

Gorges du Verdon ( Ponte du Galetas ) -
This is the view point you see in the video and its also close to where yo can rent the boats! Just walk down to the beach. But bring 1 piece of ID as they will ask you for it during your rental. Price is about 20 euros and hour.

Calanque du Mugel-
Once you get to the main beach there a closed gate you can just climb over or it might just be opened. (Use the picture of the calanque du mugel as reference to see where your going) Just keep following the trail its not very hard to find!
Location to secret spot

Restaurant Le Mugel
This is where we had lunch that day. Very reasonably priced and amazing seafood with a relaxing atmosphere.

Calanque de Figuerolles
This was a second stop to our beach day. Very easy to find!

Cassis
This is the town we spent the most time in. It was just the perfect spot to hang out all day or come to for dinner! It's also very close to all the beaches and main attractions.

La Stazione
Amazing Italian restaurant on Cassis. Big portions, great taste and fast service! This restaurant was a go to for us!

Sunset Spot Cassis!
Park at this location and walk a nice trail up or the road to see an amazing sunset!

Those are all the highlight spots we wanted to share! If you have any questions ask away in the comment box.

You're going to find that the city of Aix-en-Provence in the south of France is one of the most delightful places you could ever visit as you’re about to discover out in this detailed movie.
We bring you on a detgailed walking tour of the large pedestrian zone with its charming historic buildings, many shops, cafés, restaurants and the very famous outdoor markets selling fresh produce, clothing, antiques and all kinds of stuff with lots of local characters to observe and interact with. This small city is the perfect size, big enough to keep you busy for several days and yet not too large that you're going to feel lost or frustrated that you can't see everything.
Aix is located in the heart of Provence, a region that has so many wonderful destinations from Avignon to Nice. And you will see that AIX is one place that you must not miss.
You could easily spend a few days here and travel out to visit other nearby destinations, or if you only have one day, it is certainly possible to see most of AIX as we’re going to show you in the movie.

Avignon Provence

We spent two days in the town of Avignon in Provence, France. We got there by taking the Eurostar from London St Pancras going via Paris Gare de Lyon to Avignon direct and non-stop. Avignon is famous for the Medieval city walls, the Pont St Benezet, and the Palais de Papes, where seven popes resided in the 14th Century. Avignon was granted UNESCO World Heritage Status in 1995.

Aix en Provence walking tour

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
Aix-en-Provence is a joy to discover. You'll most likely begin your explorations of Aix on the main street, which is also the first street you'll come to, Cours Mirabeau, the broad street established in 1651. Simply called the Cours, it is sometimes considered the most attractive boulevard in all France: lined with shops, outdoor cafés and restaurants in all price ranges along a wide sidewalk with magnificent plane trees towering overhead and three moss-covered fountains in the middle of the street.
The three beautiful fountains along the quarter are called, first of all the fountain of the nine canons, and then the so-called mossy fountain from which flows a warm thermal water that generates a thick foam that covers the fountain with the green moss. And at the top of the boulevard there's the fountain of King René designed in 1819, and it adorns a work of the artist David Angers.
It was the French back in the 19th century who perfected the art of walking for sheer pleasure. They called it the flaneur, the aimless wanderer where you're just walking along, alert to your surroundings, observing things, interesting, even unimportant details, not so much worried about your destination, but enjoying the journey. 13A: This art of walking, or flaneur, was very well described by a 19th century French writer named Victor Fournel, who asks us: have you reflected on everything contained in the term flaneur, this most enchanting word which is revered by the poets? Go on infinite investigations through the streets and promenades, drift along with your nose in the wind with both hands in your pocket, with an umbrella under your arm, and an open-minded spirit. Walk along with serendipity without pondering where, and without hurrying. Stop in front of stores to regard their images, at street corners to read their signs, by the book stands to touch and smell. Give yourself over captivated and enraptured with all your senses and all your mind to the spectacle. The 19th century Parisians elevated walking to a fine art.
We show you these streets in the historic center of Aix: Avenue Victor Hugo, Cathédrale Saint Sauveu, Cours Mirabeau, Place de l'Hôtel de ville, Place de Verdun, Place des Tanneurs, Place des Trois Ormeaux, Place Forum des Cardeurs, Place Ramus, Place Saint-Honoré, Rue Aumône Vieille, Rue Bédarrides, Rue Boulegon, Rue Brueys, Rue Chabrier, Rue Clemenceau, Rue Courteissade, Rue de l'Ancienne Madeleine, Rue de la Couronne, Rue de la Masse, Rue des Chapeliers, Rue des Cordeliers, Rue des Tanneurs, Rue Espariat, Rue Fabrot, Rue Gaston de Saporta, Rue Granet, Rue Matheron, Rue Nazareth, Rue Papassaudi, Rue Paul Bert, Rue Vauvenargues,

Everything seems a bit but, there are small details, subtleties that the curious eye notices: color palettes in clothing, cars and shops. Type of products sold, accent and volume when speaking, foreign languages and type of tourists, physical distance between people, hygiene in the streets. Fashion and trends. Type of feeding on public roads. Number of people with pets or babies. Speed and way of walking. Characteristics of the traffic. Genetic composition of society, entertainment and leisure. Noise level, hygiene and vandalism, architectural trend, infrastructure, transport development, security, etc. - God is in details ????
