A Look Around Place de la Bourse, Bordeaux, France
Place de la Bourse is a square in Bordeaux, France and one of the city's most recognizable sights. Built from 1730 to 1775 along the Garonne River, it was a multi-building development designed by architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel. It is within the historic part of the city that has been recognized on the UNESCO World Heritage List as an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble of the 18th century.
In the original plan, a statue of King Louis XV of France was erected in the square. This statue was destroyed during the French Revolution. After the destruction of the statue, a Corinthian column-fountain was built on the square. Finally, in 1869 the sculpture Three Graces was installed in the same location.
Design of the surrounding buildings was finished by Ange-Jacques Gabriel in 1739; the project was issued for construction two weeks after the architect's death. After his death, his son was put in charge and finished the construction of the buildings.
This square is one of the most representative works of classical French architectural art of the eighteenth century. In the north stood the Palais de la Bourse (current Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bordeaux) and in the south the Hotel des Fermes (now Interregional Directorate of Customs and Indirect Rights, which houses the National Museum of Customs). It was designed by Ange-Jacques Gabriel between 1735 and 1738. The sculptures represent Minerve protecting the arts and Mercury favoring the commerce of the city.
In 2007 it was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List as an outstanding urban and architectural ensemble of the 18th century.

10. Marseille.
Marseille, France's second largest city and Europe's oldest, is a Mediterranean seaport on the southeast coast. Marseille has various institutions and industries, as well as an exquisite climate, Roman ruins, medieval architecture, and notable cultural sites. Vieux Port is Marseille's heart. This lively harbor is dominated by two historic forts. The Quai des Begles at the harbor's edge features luxury yachts, ferry boats, and fisherman selling their catch at the daily fish market.
9. Lyon.
Lyon, capital of the Rhône department in Rhone-Alpes, located in east-central France. Lyon, France's third largest city, is famous for its architecture, cuisine, and culture. Lyon has nine arrondissements and neighborhoods. Each district has unique treasures. Presqu'île has restaurants, bars, and clubs, whereas Croix-Rousse has hundreds of traboules. Fourvière has Roman ruins and Gothic churches, while Brotteaux has the Tete d'Or park.
8. Strasbourg.
French and Germany blend perfectly in Strasbourg. Strasbourg, Alsace's capital, borders both countries. Strasbourg hosts the European Parliament, European Court of Human Rights, and Council of Europe. Grande Ile is a must see. The center has various museums and attractions, including the Gothic church with pink sandstone, ornate carvings, and a 300-year-old operating astrological clock.
7. Loire Valley.
The Loire Valley in central France is famous for its beautiful scenery, chateaux, vineyards, and medieval villages. The Loire Valley winds 175 miles down the Loire River through some of France's most attractive villages, including Amboise, where Leonardo da Vinci spent his final years. A Look Around Place du Parlement, Bordeaux, France
Place du Parlement Thus named in commemoration of the Bordeaux Parliament that existed from the 15th century to 1790, when it was dissolved definitively in the revolutionary fervour that had gripped France.
This is one of the most beautiful squares in Bordeaux, designed in the Italian style with an elegant fountain in the centre. If you place yourself by the fountain and look at the buildings that form the square, you will notice some sculpted stone heads that can actually be found in their thousands all over the city. These are called mascarons.
Like much of the city, the grand buildings in this square date from the 18th century (the fountain came one hundred years later.
Place du Parlement is right in the heart of the old town, and it’s lined with restaurant terrasses where locals and tourists love to sit in the open air and soak up the atmosphere.
