Top 10 Places To See NYC in FULL BLOOM

Happy Spring everyone!

It looks like the cherry blossoms have beat me to it this year. Couldn’t get this video out fast enough. Traditionally, there are cherry blossom festivals that accompany the blooms. But due to the circumstances, there most likely will not be any festivals in 2021. However, that does not keep these magical trees from blooming, nor will it keep you from witnessing their beauty!

Also, at the time of this posting, it’s still ‘rona season. So before you run out that door, make it a point to visit each botanical garden’s website for info on how or when you can visit.

Thanks for watching and much love!

Check out the old town trolley tours where the trolley will take you around savannah! You can hop on and off the trolley as much as you want and it’s a great way to make the most of your time while visiting. This will help make sure you see all of the highlights!

2) Bike around the city
If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend biking as a way to see the city. This was a fun and efficient way to get around Savannah!

3) Forsyth Farmers Market
If you are into farmers markets, on Saturday you can expect to find the Forsyth Farmers market located in Forsyth park! This is a great way to support local while also getting a taste of savannah. Take time to enjoy the park and see the vendors!

As I mentioned, there are a lot of highlights and history when it comes to savannah. Before visiting, think about what it is you might want to see in detail. Purchase admission to a museum or pay for a guided walking tour. When purchasing admission, make sure it is or isn’t haunted!

5) Savannah squares
This next thing to know is also a little fact about Savannah. When Savannah was being built up, General Oglethorpe came up with the idea of laying the city of Savannah out in a grid pattern with Squares. These Squares are open areas made for public use, spaced out throughout this grid pattern. These Squares were originally used to practice and drill for the militia, but today are gathering places of beauty and history. With numerous Squares around the city, they are a great area to check out! They often are well landscaped and have statues that can be seen.

6) Pralines
When in savannah, you must try pralines! While exploring the city, find a candy shop that sells pralines. Some will offer a free sample or purchase some to take home with you!

7) Spuds at Spanky’s chicken
If you are looking for good food when in savannah, check out Spanky’s located on River Street. They have amazing chicken fingers there but do yourself a favor and order the Spanky’s spuds. I had never had these before and was blown away by them! They are sliced potatoes that are hand-battered and deep-fried with Spanky’s original batter.

8) Wet Willie’s for daiquiris
If you are visiting in the summer, Savannah can get hot! A great way to take a fun and refreshing break is by visiting Wet Willie’s for an assortment of frozen daiquiris! They do offer sugar-free and nonalcoholic options.

9) Savannah Belles ferry
Savannah Belles Ferry is a free ferry boat ride that you can take with a couple of pickup and drop-off points. The ferry stops are Savannah Riverwalk at City Hall, Savannah Riverwalk in Morrell Park near the Savannah Marriott Riverfront, and Savannah Convention Center on Hutchinson Island, next to the Westin. Take the ferry boat for a fun experience and to see a different side of Savannah!

10) River street
River Street is a unique area to visit when in Savannah. Here, you will find a mix of old and modern Savannah. With new buildings nestled next to former cotton warehouses, you’ll find numerous shops, galleries, restaurants, pubs, and hotels located on Savannah’s Waterfront. If you are looking for a place to get souvenirs of your time in Savannah, check out River Street!

Travel Maryland| Picnic Place | Brighton dam | Azalea garden | Triadelphia Reservoir

Established in 1959, Brighton Dam’s Azalea Garden is home to over 22,000 azalea bushes over 5 acres in a hardwood forest. Kousa dogwood trees were added in the 1990’s and the garden is also home to Montgomery County’s champion fringe tree.

The idea for the garden was from WSSC Water Commissioner Raymond Bellamy. WSSC Water Watershed Manager Paul Hancock led the work as the garden was planted in the late 1950’s and 1960’s. An updated gazebo was installed by WSSC Water watershed staff in 2012. Ben Morrison was the former Chief of the Plant Introduction Section and Director of the National Arboretum, United States Department of Agriculture. Glenn Dale, MD is the location of USDA’s Plant Introduction Section and Morrison named the variety of azalea in honor of the community.

Azaleas are not the only thing that thrive in the garden. Maryland's state champion fringe tree (Chionanthus virginicus) calls the Azalea Garden its home.

Recently, WSSC Water has planted several new beds, including one devoted to deciduous azaleas and another bed filled with Gable Hybrid “Karen” azaleas. The majority of the azaleas in the garden bloom around Mother’s Day.

Asticou Azalea Garden - Hidden Gems Near Acadia National Park - Maine, USA

The Asticou Azalea Garden is an inspiring garden at the Preserve, combining the best natural features of Mount Desert Island with design elements inspired by classic Japanese gardens.

Located in Northeast Harbor, the beauty of Asticou changes and evolves throughout the year. A flowering cherry tree heralds the start of the season in mid-May. This is followed by a myriad of colorful azaleas and rhododendrons which bloom from late May through June. July blooms include Japanese iris, smoke bush, rosebay rhododendron, and the fragrant sweet azalea. August is a peaceful time accented by blooming water lilies and in September and October the garden is ablaze with fall colors.

The Asticou Azalea Garden was created in 1957 by Charles K. Savage using plants purchased from Beatrix Farrand’s Reef Point garden upon its closing. Although Savage brought much of the plant material from Reef Point to Thuya Garden, he thought that the large azalea collection would be better suited for display around the small pond in lower Asticou due to its location. At the Asticou Azalea Garden, as it came to be known, Savage’s vision of providing a good display area for the azaleas came to fruition as he arranged the azaleas along the shores of the pond to increase the effects of their beautiful blooms in the reflections of the water.

Savage had shown an interest in Japanese garden design for many years. His design ideas for the Asticou Azalea Garden show some resemblance to a Japanese stroll garden but one that was designed for a coastal Maine setting. The garden is meant to inspire serenity and reflection and creates an illusion of space – of lakes and mountains and distant horizons.

In a paper written in August 1957 Savage says:

“Very early in the approach to the problem the presence of water and of azaleas suggested that some research into the Japanese modes of treatment might be well. It is a significant fact that many features of the natural scenery of Mount Desert have similarities to the Japanese, particularly in the parts of the island where bold ledges, rocks and pitch pines prevail. From the outset it appeared that to the water and azaleas there ought to be added certain accents in the form of rocks. It was but a further step to add pines. Also, it soon became apparent that a simple path around the pond ought to be provided. Since this had to cross the brook in order to encircle the pond, a plain piece of stone slab for a bridge was clearly the answer. These elements are indigenous to Mount Desert. That they also happen to be part and parcel of almost all the better Japanese work is perhaps accidental, but true. Initially, the development of the design was a parallel rather than an imitative one.”

To utilize the hidden space at the back of the garden, which is not seen from the road, Savage wanted a surprise feature. He turned that somewhat flat area into a small sanded area that was an expression of a supplementary pool whose surface was covered with sand instead of water – something that is purely Japanese in its feeling. The design for this sand garden was influenced by the well-known 16th century sand garden in Ryoanji Temple in Kyoto. Savage was first to point out, however, that his sand garden is but a suggestion of the original and is built on a curve to simulate the flowing stream. He did hope that it would somehow convey some of the same feeling of the original.

Places to see in ( Asheville - USA )

Asheville is a city in western North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s known for a vibrant arts scene and historic architecture, including the dome-topped Basilica of Saint Lawrence. The vast 19th-century Biltmore estate displays artwork by masters like Renoir. The Downtown Art District is filled with galleries and museums, and in the nearby River Arts District, former factory buildings house artists' studios.

According to Lonely Planet, This Jazz Age gem of a city appears like a mirage out of the mists of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Asheville is a popular tourist destination and is known as a liberal, artsy community. It was named one of the world's top 12 must-see destinations for by Frommer's travel guides. This Paris of the South, has also been described as the San Francisco of the East, New Age Mecca, and Land of the Sky. It's a city of which Rolling Stone magazine dubbed America’s New Freak Capital. But Asheville is by no means simply a haven for Hippies and 'Out There's', as Money magazine has called Asheville one of the Best Places to Retire, and AARP cites it as one of the Best Places to Reinvent Your Life.

Self magazine proclaims Asheville as America’s Happiest City. PETA lists Asheville as America's Best Vegetarian-Friendly Small City. Author Lee Pantas, in his guidebook The Ultimate Guide To Asheville & The Western North Carolina Mountains says it all in describing Asheville as a city not easily forgotten once visited. In 2007, Asheville was named one of the top seven places to live in the U.S. by Forbes, and in 2011 Asheville was picked as one of the “10 Most Beautiful Places in America” by Good Morning America.

Asheville is nationally renowned for its unique architecture, especially downtown and around the Biltmore Estate. The city suffered greatly during the Great Depression, and consequently little development happened during the time. This actually had a positive effect, as the city's famous Art Deco Architecture of the Roaring 20's was saved from destruction. Therefore, today, Asheville boasts the nations most complete collection of Art Deco structures. Other architectural styles, of course, are present in abundance throughout the city; from the Neo-Gothic Jackson Building Skyscraper to the Modern BB&T Tower.

The undisputed ‘capital’ of the North Carolina mountains, Asheville is both a major tourist destination and one of the coolest small cities in the South. Cradled in a sweeping curve of the Blue Ridge Parkway, it offers easy access to outdoor adventures of all kinds, while downtown's historic art deco buildings hold stylish New Southern restaurants, decadent chocolate shops, and the homegrown microbreweries that explain the nickname 'Beer City.'

Brookgreen Gardens is absolutely gorgeous right now with azaleas in Murrells Inlet, SC.

Out of all of the places I have visited so far on the 2022 azalea season, Brookgreen Gardens is simply the best. Everything is so full of life right now.
