Turkish Food Tour in Istanbul - BEST Kebabs of My Life, AMAZING Seafood, and Turkish Ice Cream!

The first thing we did in the morning in Istanbul was drive over to Beşiktaş to eat an amazing Turkish food breakfast at a restaurant called Çakmak Kahvaltı Salonu. From there we took the ferry across the Bosphorus to Kadiköy, where we had an incredible Turkish seafood meal for lunch. Finally, we enjoyed some Turkish ice cream, and the show, and had the most incredible kebab I’ve ever had in my life at Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant. It was an amazing day of Turkish food in Istanbul!
1:27 Turkish breakfast at Çakmak Kahvaltı Salonu - For breakfast we headed to Beşiktaş, one of my favorite areas of Istanbul, and went to a restaurant known for serving breakfast. The breakfast was amazing, and I ate a dish of eggs with beef and butter. The side dishes were also fantastic. Total price - 29 TL ($9.73)
7:40 Boat to Kadiköy and Kadiköy Market - During our trip so far to Istanbul, we hadn’t had a chance to go to the Asian side of Istanbul. So today, we took the ferry over to Kadiköy pier on the Asian side across the Bosphorus. The views of Istanbul from the Bosphorus were stunning. On the other side, the main thing I wanted to do was explore Kadiköy Market, which was every bit as colorful as I had imagined. The fresh vegetables and seafood were fantastic, and I tried a cup of pickle juice.

12:45 Seafood lunch at Balıkçı Lokantası Restaurant - Of all the meals I ate in Istanbul, this was one of my personal favorites, being a seafood lover. Not a far walk from the market, we went to a local family run seafood restaurant called Balıkçı Lokantası Restaurant. The owners were really friendly, and I ordered a plate of hamsi (which are anchovies), and I’m not sure of the name of the other dish, but I got Black Sea salmon braised in olive oil and butter I think with herbs and spices. It was one of the best Turkish foods I ate the entire trip to Istanbul. Wow, it was amazing.
20:50 Turkish Ice Cream - After spending some time exploring the Asian side of Istanbul, we took the ferry back to the European side, and since Istiklal Street was on our route, we stopped to have Turkish ice cream. You also see Turkish ice cream vendors playing with their customers, but when you’re the victim, it’s so confusing and funny. They have some serious skills playing with Turkish ice cream. Do you like Turkish ice cream?
23:49 Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant - For our final Turkish food meal of the day, we headed over to Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant. Ocakbaşı is a type of Turkish grill, and they served all sorts of different meat included kebabs and lamb chops in particular. We also got a bunch of side dishes and they cooked the kebabs and lamb chops right in front of us within the center of the restaurant. The kebab was the best I’ve ever had in my mouth, with an amazing mixture of minced meat and spices. Total price - 100 TL ($33.55). Thank you to David from for the recommendation.

Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām (Arabic: زبير بن العوام; 594–656) was an Arab Muslim commander in the service of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and the caliphs Abu Bakr (r. 632–634) and Umar (r. 634–644) who played a leading role in the Ridda Wars against rebel tribes in Arabia in 632–633 and later participated in early Muslim conquests of Sasanian Iraq in 633–634, Byzantine Syria in 634–638, and the Exarchate of Africa in 639–643.
An early convert to Islam, Zubayr was made the commander by Muhammad for the Battle of Badr in 624, in which Zubayr was instrumental in defeating the opponent forces of the Quraysh. He participated in almost all of the early Muslim battles and expeditions under Muhammad. In the Battle of the Trench, due to his military service, Muhammad bestowed the title Hawari Rasul Allah ('Disciple of Messenger of God') upon him. After Muhammad's demise, Zubayr was appointed as a commander, in the Ridda Wars, by caliph Abu Bakr. He was involved in the defense of Medina and Battle of Yamama. During Umar's caliphate, Zubayr served in the Muslim conquests of Egypt, Levant, Persia, Sudan, and Tripolitania.

TRIP REPORT | Best Airport in the World! Stunning! | Doha to Vienna | QATAR AIRWAYS Boeing 787
Qatar Airways Trip Report flying from Doha to Vienna onboard one of the Qatar Airways Boeing 787 on a lovely summer early morning.
A quite comfortable flight from Doha to Vienna onboard the Qatar Airways Boeing 787. However, I must say that the Boeing 787 is not the most comfortable plane on the Qatar Airways fleet. In fact, I would say it's the wide-body aircraft that feels more cramped in the cabin. It's still good compared to many other airlines but definitely feels worse than the B777 or A350.
About the route, we departed southbound from Doha. Quickly after takeoff, we made a 180° turn to the right and started our flight to Vienna. We flew over the Persian/Arabic Gulf, overflew Kuwait city, Iraq, Turkey, the Black Sea, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and, finally, Austria.
Talking about the onboard service, Qatar Airways' onboard service is well known for being one of the best in the world. This flight was a pleasant experience as well. There were 3 options for the main meal: chicken sausage breakfast, beef with mashed potatoes, or the vegetarian option. I went for the beef but I regret it when I saw the chicken option. Mine was good, of course, but nothing special.
Overall a nice experience with Qatar Airways but it would have been much better on another plane model. The service was good, the crew polite and the views on the other side of the window were also really nice.
