Exploring An Ancient French Castle: Forteresse de Polignac | Auvergne, France
Hello Beautiful People!
We are in Auvergne, France again today to explore Forteresse de Polignac, a 1,000 year old fortress built on top of volcanic rocks 5km northwest of the city of Le Puy-en-Velay. The stunning countryside landscape reminds me of an oil painting!
While the Fortress of Polignac is the main attraction, the Village of Polignac is also home to the 11th century Eglise de Saint Martin or St. Martin's Church.

In addition to Forteresse de Polignac, you can also take day trips to La Chaise Dieu, an 11th-century abbey church and Chavaniac Lafayette to see the Chateau Chavaniac, birthplace of the famous American Revolutionary French figure, Marquis de Lafayette. Cruising French canal Saone from Chalon- Lyon
Sailing French canal.
After some wonderful days in Chalon, where we got to see most of the city, we sailed further down the Saone.
It was an absolutely fantastic road and we enjoyed the summer to the fullest. We passed a disused lock, which had been converted into a marina. Next stop on our trip was in Macon. We were located in a nice harbor, but somewhat far from the city.
But that does not stop a bunch of long-distance sailors from seeing the city. So I think we probably walked about 10km that day.
After Macon, we should start looking a little more to the first suburbs of Lyon.

In deze aflevering maken we rechtsomkeert op het Canal des Ardennes, na alarmerende verhalen van Okaay, onze vriendelijke Zwitsers. We gaan weer de Maas en het bijbehorende Canal de la Meuse op. Nog meer sluisjes en slootjes die we moeten nemen. Het landschap blijft onveranderlijk fraai. Hoe zuidelijker je komt, hoe meer je te maken krijgt met de beruchte waterflora die een bedreiging vormt voor je schroef en je wierpotten. Alhoewel het tot nu toe nog wel meevalt. We stoppen in Stenay, een mooi, maar naar onze smaak te rustig stadje.

All about Napoleon Bonaparte & his favourite palace in 16 minutes
Today, I would like to give you a brief summary of Napoleon Bonaparte’s life. Also, let me show you the beloved palace of Napoleon I and his journey from an artillery officer to First consul of the republic, then the first emperor of France.
The boy who spoke French with Corsican accent became one of the youngest general of French history, at the age of 24.
In November 1804, when Napoleon was elected as Emperor of the French by a nearly unanimous tally, he commanded a project to restore the palace of Fontainebleau after the French Revolution.
It is the place where he announced the pregnancy of the empress Marie-Louise, and it is where he abdicated in favour of his son on April 4, 1814.
And, on 20 April 1814, after a memorable descent of the Horseshoe staircase in the lower court of the palace of Fontainebleau, the abdicated emperor made his famous farewell speech to his Old Guard before being exiled to Elba.
Napoleon has been regarded as a military genius and one of the most exceptional commanders in history. His wars and campaigns have been studied at military schools worldwide. He fought more than 80 battles of which he lost only eleven, mostly towards the end when the French army was not as dominant.

@Drijven op de stroom, nog meer sluizen en een tunnel. De Franse Ardennen zijn prachtig. Deze twee dagen waren een beetje somber qua weer, vooral de tweede dag veel regen. We waren bang dat we daardoor meer stroom tegen zouden krijgen, maar dat viel achteraf mee. Révin is een leuk plaatsje als de zon schijnt, maar dat geluk hadden we dus niet. Op twee minuten lopen is er wel een prachtige Lidl supermarkt, dat maakte bijna alles weer goed. Het jachthaventje zelf is ook prima, met goede voorzieningen en een vriendelijke havenmeesteres, Cathérine.
