What to Do in Nimes and Avignon? | France Travel Guide

Join us on our trip to France where we travel to the historic cities of Nîmes, Avignon, Arles, and Orange located in southern France, and hold some of the best preserved examples of ancient Roman architecture and history.

In Episode 11 of our Eurotrip 2020 series, we feature highlights of our trip around the southern France region starting with a morning visit to the city of Nîmes where we explore the various Roman architecture and historic sites throughout the city including the Arena of Nîmes, Maison Carrée, and the Temple de Diane located in the beautiful Les Jardins de la Fontaine.

We stop for a few hours at the famous Pont du Gard, a UNESCO site and one of the best preserved examples of Roman architecture, specifically of an aqueduct bridge, in the world. The views here are so lovely!

We based ourselves in the city of Avignon, known for the historic Palais des Papes, a historical palace and fortress in southern France, which was once the seat of Western Christianity! From here we explored the city of Arles which contains several examples of Roman architecture collectively referred to as the Roman and Romanesque Monuments of Arles, all listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Lastly, we visited the city of Orange which contains of the the best preserved examples of all Roman theatres. These cities are a short distance away from Avignon, so definitely recommend staying here for a few days.

Budget affordable eating out in the city of Marseille, Southern France

Whenever you are in Marseille, if you are a budget traveller and looking for some affordable meals that won't break your bank, this clip will suit you fine. Here are five places where you can spend roughly €10 for a filling dinner. And most of them are easy to access, as they are all located in the city centre. Below are their addresses and their direction by walking:
1. Petit Luchon ( Chinese fast food ): 7, Allée León Gambetta, 13001 Marseille. Take metro line 2 , get off in Noailles station, exit in Boulevard Garibaldi, cross the road, find a Macdonald, follow that steep road to go up, see the traffic light, cross the road again, and walk about 20 seconds to reach the place.
2. Ankara Grill ( Turkish restaurant) :40, Cours Belsunce, 13001 Marseille. Again, after coming out from the metro Noailles station, follow the tramway ( the side towards the sea) as it turns to the right hand side, keep walking about 2 minutes to reach the restaurant.
3. Pho 187 ( Vietnamese cuisine) : take metro line 1, get off in Vieux Port station, or you can walk down from Noailles, find an Italian ice-cream shop called Amarino facing the sea, walk along the side street next to it, and you'll find the place in 20 seconds.
4. Le Saf Saf ( Arabic restaurant) : 23 Rue Vincent Scotto, 13001, Marseille. Again after coming out from the Noailles station, cross the road, until you see a side street on the right filled with fire engines, walk through that street. About one minute, the restaurant will be on your right.
5. Flunch Aubagne ( French and European cuisine) : Centre Commercial Auchan, Barneoud, Route de Gémenos 13400 Aubagne. Drive there if you've got a car, or take metro line 2, get off in Castellane station, then take the coach with the destination ' Aubagne' , arrive the city centre of Aubagne and take bus no.11.
Hope the above details are helpful. Enjoy your stay in Marseille and, bon appétit!.

MAP OF FRANCE

hello hello my friends. this is a map of beautiful france. The vast majority of France's territory and population is situated in Western Europe and is called Metropolitan France, to distinguish it from the country's various overseas polities..:
It is bordered by the North Sea in the north, the English Channel in the northwest, the Atlantic Ocean in the west and the Mediterranean sea in the southeast. Its land borders consist of Belgium and Luxembourg in the northeast, Germany and Switzerland in the east, Italy and Monaco in the southeast, and Andorra and Spain in the south and southwest. Except for the northeast, most of France's land borders are roughly delineated by natural boundaries and geographic features: to the south and southeast, the Pyrenees and the Alps and the Jura, respectively, and to the east, the Rhine river. Due to its shape, France is often referred to as l'Hexagone (The Hexagon). Metropolitan France includes various coastal islands, of which the largest is Corsica. it is on the western edge of Europe, and thus lies within the northern temperate zone. Its continental part covers about 1000 km from north to south and from east to west.

France has several overseas regions across the world, which are organized as follows:

five have exactly the same status as mainland France's regions and departments:
French Guiana in South America;
Guadeloupe in the Caribbean;
Martinique in the Caribbean;
Mayotte in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of East Africa;
nine have special legal status distinct from mainland France's regions and departments:
In the Atlantic Ocean: Saint Pierre and Miquelon and, in the Antilles: Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy.
In the Pacific Ocean: French Polynesia, the special community of New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna and Clipperton Island.
In the Indian Ocean: Kerguelen Islands, Crozet Islands, St. Paul and Amsterdam islands, and the Scattered Islands in the Indian Ocean
In the Antarctic: Adelie Land.
France has land borders with Brazil and Suriname via French Guiana and with the Kingdom of the Netherlands through the French portion of Saint Martin. thanks for listening. please subscribe for the best maps and for the love of france. Metropolitan France has a wide variety of topographical sets and natural landscapes. Large parts of the current territory of France were raised during several tectonic episodes like the Hercynian uplift in the Paleozoic Era, during which the Armorican Massif, the Massif Central, the Morvan, the Vosges and Ardennes ranges and the island of Corsica were formed. These massifs delineate several sedimentary basins such as the Aquitaine basin in the southwest and the Paris basin in the north, the latter including several areas of particularly fertile ground such as the silt beds of Beauce and Brie. Various routes of natural passage, such as the Rhône Valley, allow easy communication. The Alpine, Pyrenean and Jura mountains are much younger and have less eroded forms. At 4,810.45 metres (15,782 ft) above sea level, Mont Blanc, located in the Alps on the French and Italian border, is the highest point in Western Europe. Although 60% of municipalities are classified as having seismic risks, these risks remain moderate.
Reed bed on the Gironde estuary, the largest estuary in Western Europe
The coastlines offer contrasting landscapes: mountain ranges along the French Riviera, coastal cliffs such as the Côte d'Albâtre, and wide sandy plains in the Languedoc. Corsica lies off the Mediterranean coast. France has an extensive river system consisting of the four major rivers Seine, the Loire, the Garonne, the Rhône and their tributaries, whose combined catchment includes over 62% of the metropolitan territory. The Rhône divides the Massif Central from the Alps and flows into the Mediterranean Sea at the Camargue. The Garonne meets the Dordogne just after Bordeaux, forming the Gironde estuary, the largest estuary in Western Europe which after approximately 100 kilometres (62 mi) empties into the Atlantic Ocean.[103] Other water courses drain towards the Meuse and Rhine along the north-eastern borders. France has 11 million square kilometres (4.2×106 sq mi) of marine waters within three oceans under its jurisdiction, of which 97% are overseas.
The French metropolitan territory is relatively large, so the climate is not uniform, giving rise to the following climate nuances:
• The hot-summer mediterranean climate (Csa) is found along the Gulf of Lion. Summers are hot and dry, while winters are mild and wet. Cities affected by this climate: Arles, Avignon, Fréjus, Hyères, Marseille, Menton, Montpellier, Nice, Perpignan, Toulon.
• The warm-summer mediterranean climate (Csb) is found in the northern part of Brittany. Summers are warm and dry, while winters are cool and wet. Cities affected by this climate: Belle Île, Saint-Brieuc. #francemap #mapfrance #france #mapschool #cartes #carte #mapsolo #maps #mapas

EUROSTAR SOUTH OF FRANCE - MARSEILLE TO AUBAGNE part four -

Andrew, Sam, Oscar and Tabitha are off to the South of France...yipee! Welcome to our family trip on the Eurostar from London to Marseille in the South of France. Eurostar have started a new line from London to the South of France. We usually fly but we thought it would make an interesting experience for the children and be different to travel by train. They did a £99 special so we jumped at the chance. We packed a giant packed lunch and headed off. We took one IT suitcase each, cabin bag size and one bag full of Oscars revision (he was so pleased!) as he has exams when we return!
We booked some interesting accomodation on airbnb and hired a car in Marseille. Oscar is 12 and Tabitha is 9. Samantha (mummy) and Andrew (daddy) are leading the way! Thanks for watching.

MOUNTAIN CLIMBING in France (10 kilometers walk)

Exhausting, amazing, rewarding, breathtaking journey just to fulfill a dream. A trip inspired by the french classic novels in the 1950s, realized into 2 movies in the 90s (La Gloire De Mon Pere and Le Château De Ma Mère)

A Look Around Place Carnot, Carcassonne, France

A beautiful square surrounded by interesting buildings with lots of shops and cafes. The Saturday morning market is excellent. We were lucky to also be there on the night of a food and wine festival, highly recommend it!

As Trafalgar Square is to London, so Place Carnot is to Carcassonne- not only a focal point of urban planning, but a space for community events.

At its heart is the Fountain of Neptune created by the Italian father and son sculptors Barata in 1771 and, when we were there, preparations were in hand for a wine fair or festival - it looked worth going back for!
