EXPLORING KELLS TOWN in IRELAND

EXPLORING KELLS TOWN in County Meath - IRELAND

Kells (/ˈkɛlz/; Irish: Ceanannas) is a town in County Meath, Ireland. The town lies off the M3 motorway, 16 km (10 mi) from Navan and 65 km (40 mi) from Dublin. It is best known as the site of Kells Abbey, from which the Book of Kells takes its name.

The settlement was originally known by the Irish name Ceannanas or Ceannanus, and it is suggested that the name 'Kells' developed from this. From the 12th century onward, the settlement was referred to in English and Anglo-Norman as Kenenus, Kenelles, Kenles, Kenlis, Kellis and finally Kells. It has also been suggested that Kenlis and Kells come from an alternative Irish name, Ceann Lios, meaning [the] head fort. Kells, Kenlis and Headfort all feature in the titles taken by the Taylor family.

In 1929, Ceannanus Mór was made the town's official name in both Irish and English. Following the creation of the Irish Free State, a number of towns were renamed likewise. Ceanannas has been the official Irish-language form of the place name since 1969. In 1993, Kells was re-adopted as the town's official name in English

Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK

Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:

If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.

If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).

Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.

European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.

If you have any further visa questions visit the official UK government website.

Ashbourne town centre by drone. June 2022 | 4K

Just a short flight over the town centre of Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Ashbourne is where the famous Shrovetide football game takes place.

Best viewed on a large computer screen or smart TV as this is recorded in 4K resolution with great music so a real waste watching it on a small phone screen. Did you know you can cast it to your smart tv from the YouTube app?

Information on my drone flying :
● My drone is a Class C0 drone sub-250g type, because its such a lightweight drone (236g), I'm allowed to fly it over residential and commercial property and people (but not crowds) without permission.
● I passed the theory test and have both valid flyer ID and Operator ID's.
● I have drone insurance (£5 million public liability insurance cover).
● I strictly follow all the CAA guidelines on flying my drone.
● I always fly in Cinematic mode (slow speed) as this is safer in urban environments.
● I plan all of my flights in advance of taking off to ensure I know my complete flight path and am aware of any obstacles in the way.
● In order to maintain VLOS (visual line of sight) with my drone I use extremely bright Strobe lights, if there are trees or buildings in my way then I have to land and carry on from a different location this means that I often have to join bits of flights together, I try and line up edits using telemetry to match altitude and position etc. but its not always possible to get good joins in clips so this can mean jump cuts and fades between clips.
● I carry out a risk assessment before each flight and ensure all batteries fully charged, GPS has a good fix etc.
● I always engage with anyone nearby informing them the reason for my flight.

Thanks
Andy

Places to see in ( Ashbourne - UK )

Places to see in ( Ashbourne - UK )

Ashbourne is a market town in the Derbyshire Dales, England. Ashbourne contains many historical buildings and many independent shops and is famous for its historic annual Shrovetide football match.Due to its proximity to the southern edge of the Peak District and being the closest town to the popular area of Dovedale, the town is known as both the 'Gateway to Dovedale' and the 'Gateway to the Peak District'.

The cobbled market place hosts a traditional outdoor market every Thursday and Saturday throughout the year, complementing the wide range of individual shops in the town. Although its market heritage is important, it came under threat of closure from Derbyshire County Council in November 2012. The people of Ashbourne have opposed any such moves by the council and started an online petition. Ashbourne became the 97th Fairtrade Town in March 2005 after many businesses, cafes, shops and community organisations started supporting Fairtrade.

Ashbourne has a large number of public houses for such a small town centre: there are currently 10 pubs trading, as well as 2 social clubs. However, the town's most famous establishment, the Green Man & Black's Head Royal Hotel, closed in 2012 and underwent a change of ownership in 2013. Part of it is being redeveloped into retail units and a bistro, and some of the hotel bedrooms are being restored but, as of February 2014, plans are also afoot to restore a pub function to the complex. The famous and rare 'gallows' sign across St John's Street does, however, remains a focal meeting point in the town. Local historians have noted that almost 1 in 4 buildings in the town have at one time or another been an alehouse, pub or inn or were redeveloped on the site of such an establishment.

The Tissington Trail, a popular recreational walk and cycle path, starts at Mappleton Lane on the northern outskirts of town, accessed by a large Victorian tunnel about 380 yards long running from the former railway station site in the town, and follows the course of the former Ashbourne to Buxton railway, running from what was Ashbourne railway station through the village of Tissington and joining the High Peak Trail (the old Cromford and High Peak Railway) at Parsley Hay.

The Limestone Way does not enter the town but passes around it some 2 to 3 miles away, going through Tissington, Thorpe, Marten Hill and above Mayfield on its way to Rocester. Although there is no formal link to the Limestone Way from Ashbourne, there are a number of routes that walkers from the town could use to join up with the way.

A Day in Emerald Park - The Only Theme Park in Ireland ????????

A visit to Emerald Park near Dublin - the only theme park in Ireland! ????

Emerald Park began life as Tayto Park, based around Ireland's most popular crisp brand, Tayto. Interesting fact - Tayto invented flavoured crisps!

Emerald Park is close to Ashbourne in County Meath and not too far from Dublin. You can get a bus from the city to the park. There's plenty of parking too and it's just off the M2 motorway meaning it's easy to get to from most parts of the country.

I'm a big theme park fanatic so it's great to finally have a theme park nearby! The park has been growing every year and the transformation into Emerald Park means they'll have more great things coming like the new Tír na nÓg themed land and 2 brand new Vekoma roller coasters.

There's 2 areas in the park for now - a Junior Area and All Access Area with the zoo attractions open to everyone.

Emerald Park is home to the biggest roller coaster in Ireland - The Cú Chulainn Coaster. It's easily one of the best wooden roller coasters in Europe. I love it!

There's family coasters too like Flight School and Dino Dash. There's other thrill rides like Rotator, Air Race, Power Surge and Endeavor. Junior Rides include Ladybird Loop, Nissan Driving School, Balloon Chase and Pony Rail. There's also a boat ride called Viking Voyage which is good fun.

Emerald Park has a small zoo too. They have tigers, leopards, buffalo and monkeys. There's a great petting farm and the interactive Lemur Woods.

@emeraldpark is a great day out. It's growing every year, adding new attractions and expanding. It's a good family park with lots to do for all ages. I'm really excited about the addition of Tír na nÓg and the new coasters.

*Some of this video was filmed when the park was still Tayto Park!

The Irish pub holds a special place in peoples hearts and for good reason. This institution has held so many roles over the years, from undertaker to grocery store, but perhaps none is as important as its status as the unofficial tourist office.
