This video is all about birding, birdwatching, bird photography, videos about birds- all that in the tropical country of continental proportions - Brazil. In this particular case - in the state of Mato Grosso: Feliz Natal, Alta Floresta e Sinop.
This video is not only about nice bird pictures and videos, but also, about the whole fauna and flora of the tropics in Brazil, and in fact, we hint how you may find birding guides in Brazil (without them, birding is just not really possible). In Feliz Natal, Lillian Tomazelli, around Cristalino Lodge, Francisco Carvalho Souza, and in Sinop, Lisa Mirona and her husband Mickael Sand. I am so very grateful to all of them for guiding me around the marvelous sites of north Mato Grosso state.

O Parque das Aves é um passeio perfeito para quem está em família e gosta do contato com a natureza e os animais.
Fica localizado bem pertinho das Cataratas do Iguaçu. É só atravessar a rua para chegar ao Parque das Aves. Fica perfeito combinar os dois passeios no mesmo dia (sugiro fazer o Parque das Aves pela manhã e as Cataratas do Iguaçu à tarde, ou vice-versa).
O Parque das Aves é sensacional pela experiência muito próxima aos animais! São cinco viveiros de imersão, com periquitos, tucanos e araras voando sobre sua cabeça! Ao longo do passeio, você também vê flamingos, corujas, papagaios e até répteis, como jacarés, sucuris e jiboias.
O Parque das Aves em Foz do Iguaçu também tem lugares lindos para fotos, super instagramáveis. Eu também adorei o borboletário e a alimentação dos periquitos (paga a parte do ingresso, mas vale a pena).

Pantanal - Brazil
The Pantanal is a tropical wetland and the world's largest wetland of any kind. It lies mostly within the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul but extends into Mato Grosso as well as into portions of Bolivia and Paraguay, sprawling over an area estimated at between 140,000 square kilometers (54,000 sq mi) and 195,000 square kilometers (75,000 sq mi). Various sub-regional ecosystems exist, each with distinct hydrological, geological and ecological characteristics; up to twelve of them have been defined (RADAMBRASIL 1982).
80% of the Pantanal floodplains are submerged during the rainy seasons, nurturing an astonishing biologically diverse collection of aquatic plants and helping support a dense array of animal species.
The name Pantanal comes from the Portuguese word pântano, meaning wetland, bog, swamp or marsh. By comparison, the Brazilian highlands are locally referred to as the planalto, plateau or, literally, high plain. ( source Wikipedia )
SouthWild Pantanal: the best place in the world to see wild tapirs.
Emmy-winning wildlife cameraman Lawrence Wahba sets up and films one of the wild Brazilian Tapirs that on 80% of the evenings visit a special forest spot 500 meters from SouthWild Pantanal Lodge (also knows as Santa Tereza).
The tapir spends 40 to 60 minutes at the site and then melts into the dark forest to continue its nightly rounds in the mature riverine forest near the lodge.
This opportunity to see wild tapirs up close makes SWP lodge the best location in the world to see any of the four species of tapirs, which are extremely shy and elusive creatures.

We recently stayed at Chalet Maria Comprida for almost a month.
The cool dry climate, scenic mountainous landscape and quiet lifestyle here are a refreshing change for us from many months of travel throughout Brazil and from the bustle of the city of Rio de Janeiro just over an hour away by car.
After 40+ years of travel throughout the world - from the United Kingdom, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia to the Americas - we finally arrived at a charming cottage where we could feast our eyes on the stunning Serrana landscape without having to get up from the warm comfort of our bed!
And we can also soaked in the same spectacular vista while enjoying a bath in our private in-house jacuzzi tub.
Each morning, we take delight in having breakfast alfresco on our private sun terrace with the inspiring mountain panorama for good company.
Indeed, the chalet is beyond our expectation ... the photos only teased us.
A good selection of restaurants and grocery shops are just a 10-minute drive away ... and yes, you should have a car if you are considering staying here because of its relatively remote location.
There is no 3G or 4G phone reception at this particular secluded location in the mountain region of Araras ... so if it is your first time driving to this peaceful place of refuge, rest & rejuvenation, be sure to download a roadmap of the Araras region to your phone and set up your driving directions in advance with GoogleMaps (or Waze) before driving here.
Occasional outages aside, in-house wi-fi speeds here range from less than 1Mbps to over 10+Mbps.
If you are not sufficiently entertained by the tranquility here, or by your partner, there are hundreds of channels of crispy clear high-definition satellite TV programs awaiting for you in your chalet bedroom ... besides a tempting private jacuzzi hot tub within your chalet and a heated common shared pool facility.
Other than the sound of overly protective dogs doing their duty guarding their respective homes in the surrounding neighbourhood, here you will also hear the call of wild parakeets and other exotic birds welcoming you to their natural habitat ... together with the symphony of crickets & cicadas in the background.
Here, you can also inhale deeply to cleanse your lungs ... the mountain air is cool, crisp and clean.
The ambiance here is serene and calming: your stress & tensions melt away; and your heart relaxes and slows down a couple of beats.

I received an invitation from my friend Steve Bird to join him and Gina Nichol on one of his Pantanal trips so I did... a no brainer! - great fun birding with Steve and Gina and their groups is always guaranteed (enhanced with Eduardo Patrial as a suber guide and cool cara) and this was not the exception adding a LOAD of lifers for me plus the orgasmic Jaguar experience!
After 10 or so days in Pantanal, Chapada dos Guimaraes and Serra das Araras with the Zoothera lovely group, I did Atlantic Forest birding Intervales State Park for a week with Luiz one of the greatest guides and finest birders in the area for a week adding those badly wanted big antbirds plus a PLETHORA of Atlantic Forest endemics.
To end a great trip, I traveled with my Colombian mate Gustavo Bravo towards Resende where we meet and enjoyed our days with Luciano Lima (AKA Luciano Passarinho!) birding the highlands and lowlands of the Serra da Mantequeira mainly at Itatiaia National Park and also the Serra do Mar looking for really rare and hidding-jewel birds thanks to Luciano endless bird-knowledge of his region!... loads of fun, some beers and great birds again for a week!
550 species of birds recorded from which 285 were life-birds for me... what a marvelous fuck@#ng trip!!!
