#131s - Serbia, Aranđelovac tour #2 - The city of Aranđelovac (08/2014)
Aranđelovac is a beautiful city of ~25,000 people, some 75 km south of Belgrade. Surrounded and almost overshadowed by Mt. Bukulja, Mt. Venčac and many hills, Aranđelovac offers incredible views of the area, while being surprisingly flat itself. Mt. Bukulja is especially great for great views as it has a 20m tall tower made just for that. And it hides two beautiful lakes.
But landscape, nature and views. however impressive, are far from the only attractions and landmarks. Aranđelovac is best known for its rich history , mineral water, Bukovička banja spa, Risovača cave and, more recently, aqua park.
The First Serbian Uprising against the Turks started in nearby village of Orašac (1804) and there's a very nice memorial sight you should visit. Risovača cave is another impressive sight, very nice (and quite cheap) and there's the old church of Archangel Gabriel after which the city was named (Archangel - Arhanđel - Aranđelovac). The main park is quite large (21,5 hectares) and really incredible. Though some parts are (were?) in bad shape, it's a must-see in the city. Aside from rich vegetation and impressive trees, it also houses the famous Bukovička Banja spa and the magnificent Staro Zdanje hotel,. with its gardens and fountains. Also, scattered across the park are sculptures made by artists from all over the world.
Finally, the local aqua park is very popular and a great place to send your kids to, while you relax on the central city square, in one of the many cafes. :)
So, a beautiful and surprising city, close enough to Belgrade for a one-day excursion, with a lot to offer, regardless of what you're looking for - history, culture, fun, hiking, photography, biking, etc. And you only have to get used to their crazy traffic rules. ;)
Special greeting goes to everyone enjoying water sports! From swimming to diving, from skiing to just splish-splashing, it's healthy, it's fun and will certainly make you happy, enjoying your time with friends and family. In wet suites, shorts, speedos or even naked, on a boat or underwater. It doesn't matter how you enjoy it, just go and do it. Provided it's warm enough where you are. :)

#130s - Serbia, Aranđelovac tour #1 - From Mt Kosmaj to Aranđelovac (08/2014)
Aranđelovac is a very nice town south of Belgrade, best known for its Bukovička Banja spa and Bukulja mountain, but there's also Risovača cave, a very popular water park and two lakes, among other things. On this ride, I will take you from Mt. Kosmaj to Aranđelovac, around the city, then to Lazarevac and back home. I've never been in these parts before so was really looking forward to it.
In this first part, you will see some incredible landscapes and a few great descents, but sadly I will mostly remember it by very long and hard climbs. Probably my fault for not expecting them, but this is really a very difficult route. Brilliant, but one I will not be so eager to repeat any time soon. On the other hand, the beauty those climbs bring, when you reach tops of a few hills on the way, will leave you speechless. No, not me. ;) And ride dynamic, with all the twists and turns, will always make you enjoy the ride. So, if you can, make sure to try the route yourself.
Special greeting goes to people leaving stress of big cities for the better quality of life. I do enjoy living in a million-people capital, but only because I'm on the outskirts so pretty much get the best of both worlds - clean air, open space and nature, but still having benefits like numerous shops, good connections and good infrastructure (compared to other cities in Serbia). But I already feel the need to move a bit farther away as the big-city life seems to be swallowing my dear hill. Slowly, but surely.
