So I decided to share this wonderful feeling of walking in the rain. To give you the most real experience possible, I equipped myself with a binaural microphone and a 4K camera with stabilizer.

Andernos Les Bains Centre & Promenade
Cycle ride through main shopping street and along the promenade. Sunny but cold March day. Lots of shops & restaurants closed for the winter. View of Arcachon Bay (Bassin d'Arcachon).
There is a passenger ferry to Arcachon and the Bird Island. The town is favoured by young families. The oyster port is a popular tourist destination and now has many excellent sea food restaurants. Andernos is directly West of Bordeaux with fast road access.
Arcachon on the other side of the bay is more famous and upmarket but we prefer Andernos. Younger holiday makers go to Lacanau for Surfing. Cap Ferret is a major tourist residence and is favoured by many French & British stars.

FRANCE | Arcachon Bay: Dune of Pilat and more | iPhone SE travel guide
Welcome to the BAY OF ARCACHON, a bay of the Atlantic ocean on the Southwest coast of FRANCE. Very touristic in Summer, it's also worth visiting off season.
Not too far from Bordeaux, this area is mostly known for the DUNE OF PILAT, which is the highest sand dune in Europe. On the other side of the bay, CAP FERRET is another beautiful and well-known place. Other beaches include Grand Crohot, Le Porge, Lacanau, etc.
The ARCACHON BAY is also known for its oyster villages such as GUJAN-MESTRAS and ANDERNOS-LES-BAINS, where you can enjoy a short walk and try local oysters from September to April. And for a wilder and quieter atmosphere, enjoy a walk between Lanton and Audenge.

Sarah Bernhardt Walking Tour Andernos les Bains (Madame Quand Meme)
Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923) lived for health reasons in Andernos from September 1914 to January 1916 in the villa Eureka (demolished in 1978).The Andernos-les-Bains Tourist Information Office offers a once weekly Sarah Bernhardt walking tour (in season at least) . This visits the various points of Interest including the location of her now demolished villa. Also the place in the park she gave a patriotic address and the house of her supporter the Mayor Louis David. Together they helped turn Andernos from a sleepy fishing village to the second town of the Bay of Arcachon (the first being Arcachon). She came here to avoid the German advance in WW1 and also for her health. On the tour (in French) you will hear many anecdotes about Madame Quand Meme, who is still in local memory. Her villa was sadly demolished in 1978 this deprives Andernos of turning it into a Museum for Sarah Bernhardt. There is however a Sarah Bernhardt section in the small Museum in the Maison Louis David. The tour starts with a talk in front of the Tourist Information Office (the former station) then sets off to see a building which is all that remains of the Grand Villa that everyone thought Sarah would want. You then go past the the former dwelling of her butler. On her walks around Andernos he would be tasked with buying plants in gardens she liked and even dogs should took a fancy too.

Arcachon is a seaside resort town in southwest France that's known for oyster harvesting. Its 4 districts are named after the seasons. The Ville d'Été (summer) quarter is home to shopping streets, the town’s sandy main beach and a casino in the 19th-century Château Deganne. Ville d’Hiver (winter quarter) has extravagant 19th-century villas. South of the town is the Dune du Pilat, a 2.7-km natural sand dune.
A long-time oyster-harvesting area on the south side of the tranquil, triangular Bassin d'Arcachon (Arcachon Bay), this seaside town lured bourgeois Bordelaise at the end of the 19th century. Its four little quarters are romantically named for each of the seasons, with villas that evoke the town's golden past amid a scattering of 1950s architecture. Arcachon's generous swathe of golden-sand beach seethes with sun-seekers in summer, but there are plenty of equally sandy but less-crowded beaches, including the lovely Plage des Arbousiers, just a short bike ride away.
Archachon is very easy to reach from Bordeaux. For budget travelers, there are plenty of daily trains leaving from Gare Saint-Jean in Bordeaux. Another cheaper alternative would be the buses leaving from bus stop in front of Gare Saint-Jean. It takes about 1 hour and half to reach Arcachon town.
Lovely surroundings of Arcachon becomes horrendous in July if you try to get anywhere — it takes nearly 3 hours to get from Arcachon to Andernos Le Bains in the early evenings. In fact, if you want to go anywhere in the area in summer, you'd better start early in the morning around 9AM. This is not a place for those preferring laziness in the mornings while on vacations.

The spa town of Evaux les Bains
In this video clip, come and discover the mighty rise of thermalism in Evaux-les-Bains! A traditional activity that characterises the town, thermalism in particular has influenced the development of the town and its architecture in the 19th century.
The square in front of the church of Evaux-les-Bains carries the name and the bust sculpture of Armand Fourot, who largely contributed to the rise of thermalism in the city in the 19th century First, he was mayor of the town, then general counsellor and finally MP of the Creuse region. He was also behind the Paris-Ussel railway line initiative, which served Evaux thanks to the construction of the Tardes Viaduct.
From 1831, the formation of a bathing club or Société des Bains, the construction of a part of the modern-day spa facilities, and then of the Grand Hotel a few years later, brought new economic activity to Evaux.
It was later on in history from 1885, with the inauguration of the railroad and the station, that the spa therapy of Evaux enjoyed its glory days with the arrival of the train and its coaches of travellers in search of treatment!
This mighty rise of thermalism naturally influenced the landscape and the architecture of the town. Multiple hotels were built to accommodate the flood of people taking to the waters: the Grand Hotel de la Fontaine is a perfect example.
From 1850 onwards, some of the spa's faithful following wanted a pied à terre of their own in Evaux. They had villas built in keeping with the aesthetic style of spa architecture, characterised in particular by the use of red and white bricks, sometimes using yellow too, in alternating geometric patterns. Little by little, these large multicoloured houses with large openings of various shapes began to appear in the once medieval town centre. Many feature balconies with wrought iron or cast iron railings in the Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles. Their front doors are protected by elegant awnings and their overhanging roofs supported by wooden brackets give them a charming finish.

Marvelous Fresh Food Market, Vegetables, Fruit, Seafood, Meat, Bread, Cakes, Cooked Foods such as Paella. Open most days but Friday is the big market day with many outside stalls. On Friday gets very crowded so get there early to find a parking space.

Closes 9th January 2022 and will be demolished. Rebuilding a sparkling new market will take 2 years. in the mean time a temporary market will be used. The Old building dates from the 1960s and is overcrowded with poor facilities for the traders so few will miss it.

Andernos Visits Portencross Castle - Coast TV
Visitors from French Coastal town Andernos Les Bains go and see Portencross Castle as part of their effort to twin their town with Largs on the west coast of Scotland.
The visit was arranged by Largs Town Twinning Association and the first signing will take place on Dec 12th 2008 at Andernos Leas Bains.
