Our road trip from Manila (NCR) to San Jose, Occidental Mindoro via Batangas Port to Abra de Ilog Port in Occidental Mindoro, then to San Jose.
San Jose is a first class coastal municipality at the southern part of Occidental Mindoro.
Things to do in San Jose.
- Swim in the beaches of White Island, Inasakan, Ambulong, Grace Island and Aroma
- Fill up with fresh fruits and seafood in the local market
- Walk around town and meet the friendly locals.
The highway from Abra de Ilog to San Jose is paved with occasional rough patches undergoing repair. Trees and rice paddies line both sides of the road. Food is decently priced, but grocery items are usually a bit higher to cover transportation cost.
The whole trip took approximately 9 hours.
- 2 hours from Manila to SLEX and STAR to Batangas Port, including the boarding procedures and wait for the ship.
- 3 hours on a RoRo vessel
- 4 hours from Abra de Ilog to San Jose

Batangas Port Terminal Fee: Passenger P30.00, Vehicle with Driver P129.00

San Jose to Manila

For some reason, they did not charge fare for my toddler.
Few reminders when doing this roadtrip.
- Fill up in Batangas. Per liter price of gasoline in Occidental Mindoro is P10.00 to P15.00 more expensive. Gas stations close by 7PM.
- For drivers taking this route for the first time, drive in the day. The roads are unlit with minimal reflectorized road signs and animals like dogs roam and cross the roads.
- Take advantage of the 3-hour RoRo ride by taking a nap.

Road Trip Mindoro : Driving and Island Hopping In Mindoro
Wednesday was declared a holiday so we took the rest of the week off and spent it on the island of Mindoro in the Philippines, traveling by car and boats to explore its pristine & gorgeous white sand beaches and small islands.
We started our road trip in Manila and drove to Batangas port. We loaded our car on what is called a RORO (roll-in, roll-off) by Fast Cat for a 2 hour crossing to Calapan.
From there, we drove for about 3 hrs (175 km) to the Mindoro Oriental’s southern-most town, Bulalacao and spent a day on Tambaron Green Beach Resoort.
We continued our journey to San Jose, Occidental Mindoro and took a banca to explore Insakan Beach, Grace Island Resort and White Island.
