The Traunsee which is located in the Salzkammergut within the Gmunden district is the deepest lake in Austria and offers numerous beautiful photo opportunities. Located at the foot of the Traunstein, it is a true picture book motif. Rightly so, because we did not visit any other lake as often in 2020 as the Traunsee. Then there is Traunkirchen and the picturesque Seeschloss Ort, which became famous through the television series Schlosshotel Orth. In our video we show our absolute highlights of one of our favorite lakes in the Salzkammergut.

Heart of Austria Pt 3 | Lakes Region, Altmunster to Bad Aussee | Tandem Cycling Adventure
This was a fantastic day of riding from Altmunster along the Traunsee and then to Bad Ischl visiting the Kaiservilla (Franz Joseph's palace), through Bad Goisern and (except for one wrong turn detour!) up to Bad Aussee. This day was a wonderful representation of the great bike path and lightly used road system in Austria that I have come to love. It's a fun day of beautiful lake views, rain, wrong turns and mountain vistas--some intentional and some not! All in all a great day in the saddle and now a wonderful memory set to music. Don't we all wish we could have our rides put to music real-time? This is the next best thing. To cement them in memory with good tunes. Hope you enjoy this day of tandem cycling adventure in the Heart of Austria.

Gmunden (German: [ˈɡmʊndən] (About this soundlisten)) is a town in Upper Austria, Austria in the district of Gmunden. It has 13,204 inhabitants (estimates 2016 [3]). It is much frequented as a health and summer resort, and has a variety of lake, brine, vegetable and pine-cone baths, a hydropathic establishment, inhalation chambers, whey cure, etc. It is also an important centre of the salt industry in Salzkammergut.

We had our first short trip to Altmünster am Traunsee in Austria after long time Covid_19 Lockdown.
Traunsee is one of the Salzkammerguts lake. The other famose lake is Hallstadt.
In Altmünster am Traunsee was not so many tourists at the moment and was a bit quiet but we had our best Fish in Gegrillte Saiblinge Trawöger-Dorfner Restaurant. I recommend to reserve if you would like to eat around 12:00 till 14:00.
You can swim and relax or sailing there. the are boats to go other side of the lake or a trip all over the lake.

Schloss Traunsee (auch Schloss Württemberg genannt) gehört zur Gemeinde Altmünster - Bezirk Gmunden am Traunsee, in Oberösterreich.
Gebaut 1872 bis 1875 von Herzog Philipp von Württemberg als Sommervilla für seine Gemahlin Erzherzogin Maria Theresia (Enkelin Erzherzog Karls, des Siegers der Schlacht von Aspern (1809)). Gebaut im französischen Renaissancestil - Architekten Heinrich Adam (1839–1905). Zum Areal des Schlosses gehören ca. 20 ha Grund. Die Schlosskapelle wurde 1878–1880 von dem Wiener Architekten Heinrich von Ferstel, dem Erbauer der Votivkirche in Wien, geplant und ausgeführt.
Heute das Bundesrealgymnasium (BRG) Schloss Traunsee, eine besonders geförterte Schule.
Villa Toskana, ist der Sommersitz der Habsburger Großherzogen von Toscana (1870), daher auch der Name. Nochmals: der See hat Trinkwasser Qualität und um das auch zu bahalten werden keine privaten Motoboote zugelassen ! Die seit 150 Jahren besehende Traunsee-Schifffahrt hat fünf Schiffe, daneben gibt es noch einige offizielle Motorboote, wie zu sehen war.-

Later in 1785 Altmünster was incorporated into the Diocese of Linz. Castle Traunsee (also called Castle Württemberg) belongs to the municipality Altmünster - Gmunden district on the Traunsee, in Upper Austria. Built 1872-1875 by Duke Philipp of Württemberg as a summer villa for his wife Archduchess Maria Theresa (granddaughter of Archduke Charles, the victor of the Battle of Aspern (1809)). Built in French Renaissance style - architect Heinrich Adam (1839-1905). The grounds of the castle include about 20 ha of land. The castle chapel was designed and built between 1878 and 1880 by the Viennese architect Heinrich von Ferstel, the builder of the Votive Church in Vienna. Today the Bundesrealgymnasium (BRG) is here situated in the Castle Traunsee, a particularly popular school. Villa Tuscany, is the summer residence of the Habsburg Grand Duke of Tuscany (1870), hence the name. Altmünster-Gmunden ???? Bekannte Orte neu entdeckt
Heute mal die Bälle flach gehalten und die beiden Ortschaften Gmunden und Altmünster am Traunsee näher erkundet. Mehrmals bin ich schon durchgefahren und kurz ausgestiegen, aber nie zu Fuß richtig angekommen. Beide Orte bieten einen guten Blick auf den gegenüber liegenden Traunstein, egal, ob man unten an der Promenade entlang läuft oder etwas weiter oben unterwegs ist. Beide Orte sind Wohnorte für die breite Bevölkerung und keine Touristenhochburgen. Sicher ist hier im Sommer ohne Corona viel mehr los. Das was ich gesehen habe, hat mir gut gefallen.
Die Runde ist auch für Flachländer zum Nachwandern geeignet.

10 Salzkammergut Traunsee - Attersee
Am zehnten Tag meiner Radtour durch das Salzkammergut fahre ich zuerst entlang des Traunsees nach Traunkirchen und Ebensee, von wo ich über die Berge hinüber zum Attersee fahre. Allerdings nicht wie geplant über den Langbathsee, weil der Weg nach einem Gewitter zu rutschig ist.

Dad and I head on with our roadtrip throug Austria and I have to say the Salzkammergut region is just so stunning. We made an unplaned stop at Traunsee which is a Lake, and took a walk in Traunkirchen an idyllic little village named after the lake.. or the other way around.
Moving on from there we drove out of the alps into a flatter landscape heading north east. I first heard of Melk Abbey through Souldtravelers3 and just thought it looked impressive and really wanted to check it out. Dad was up for it, so we made a stop at the Abbey on our way to Vienna.
Milk Abbey was founded in 1089 and is known for mainly 2 things. It’s frescoed ceilings and it’s extensive and impressive library.
The value of the books seems to be the reason why Melk Abbey was never seized or dissolved like many other Abbeys.
When the Abbey needed a renovation 20 years ago, they partially funded it by selling their famous Gutenberg bible to Harvard University.

Heart of Austria Pt 2 | Sankt Wolfgang to Altmunster, Four Lakes | Tandem Cycling Adventure
The lakes region of Austria (Österreich) is so beautiful. The riding there can be as hard or as playful as you like. So many options. This day started at Sankt Wolfgang (Wolfgangsee). We rode north a while to where I couldn’t tell from the maps if it was a road, path, hiking trail or what…so we ended up pushing our tandem bicycle over the mountain on a pretty nice (but steep!) hiking trail. Then we rode around der Mondsee und der Attersee finally landing for the night in Almunster auf der Traunsee. A bicycle riding adventure filled with beautiful sights including the Basilika St. Michael where Fraulein Maria and Captain Von Trapp were married in the Sound of Music movie. A great day!
