Almelo is a municipality and a city in the eastern Netherlands. The main population centres in the town are Aadorp, Almelo, Mariaparochie, and Bornerbroek.
Almelo has about 72,000 inhabitants in the middle of the rolling countryside of Twente, with the industrial centres of Enschede and Hengelo as close neighbours but also with tourist towns like Ootmarsum, Delden and Markelo only a bicycle ride away. Almelo received city rights in 1394. Within the city limits lies the castle of the Counts of Almelo.
Located in the city centre is Huize Almelo, a castle that in its current form dates back to 1662 (This castle is not open to the public). There are mosaics which decorate the walls of the tunnel close to the railway station.
The city is also known for its local association football club Heracles Almelo, which plays in the Eerste divisie, the second highest football league in the Netherlands. The club uses the Erve Asito.

We verbleven voor een weekendje in Preston Palace in Nederland, niet ver van Almelo. We maakten van de gelegenheid gebruik om een wandelingetje en bezoekje te brengen aan deze stad.(28-10-2019)
Almelo is een stad met veel gezichten en een stad met karakter. Een tikkeltje eigenzinnig, gesierd met de Twentse nuchterheid en zeer gastvrij. Almelo is een bijzondere mengeling van oud en nieuw.Almelo was ooit het bloeiend centrum van de Twentse textielindustrie. In Almelo is er altijd wat te doen ! Voor alle leeftijden is er Preston Palace; een uniek hotel en uitgaanscentrum met vele faciliteiten onder één dak. U kunt één- of meerdaagse arrangementen boeken, er is o.a. een subtropisch zwemparadijs en een indoor kermis.

We stayed for a weekend at Preston Palace in the Netherlands, not far from Almelo. We took the opportunity to take a walk and visit this city.(28-10-2019)
Almelo is a city with many faces and a city with character. A tad self-willed, adorned with the sobriety of Twente and very hospitable. Almelo was once the thriving centre of the textile industry in Twente. There's always something to do in Almelo! For all ages, there's Preston Palace; a unique hotel and entertainment centre with many facilities under one roof. You can book one-day or multi-day packages, and there is a subtropical swimming paradise and an indoor fun fair, among other things.

Overijssel, Netherlands. Today it is important to make plans for the future, and most importantly, travel is just an integral part of life, and making several trips a year to interesting places is a very good idea. De stad Almelo in Nederland is een bijzondere mengeling van oud en nieuw. Een waterrijke stad met vele gezichten, gesierd door de Twentse nuchterheid en gastvrijheid. Breng een bezoek aan de omgeving van Kasteel Huize Almelo, het museum voor oude weversambachten ‘het Wevershuisje’ en het bakkerijmuseum van Bolletje. Of ontdek de uiteenlopende architectuur met de Architectuurroute. De waterstad is bovendien met recht een bruisende stad te noemen; elk jaar staan er meer dan 180 evenementen op de kalender.

After our last day in Preston Palace (29-10-2019), we went back into the city of Almelo for the last time.
The city of Almelo in the Netherlands is a special mixture of old and new. A watery city with many faces, adorned by the sobriety and hospitality of Twente. Visit the surroundings of Kasteel Huize Almelo, the museum for old weavers' crafts 'het Wevershuisje' and the bakery museum of Bolletje. Or discover the diverse architecture with the Architecture Route. The water city can also justifiably be called a bustling city; there are more than 180 events on the calendar every year.

Dit weekend reden we richting Almelo in Nederland voor een verblijf in het Preston Palace Hotel.(27-10-2019)
Dit bruisende all-inclusive hotel en uitgaanscentrum ligt op ongeveer anderhalve kilometer van treinstation Almelo de Riet, iets minder dan twee kilometer van de Sint-Georgiusbasiliek en op negentien kilometer van Techniekmuseum HEIM.
De gemoedelijke kamers bieden plaats aan maximaal zes gasten en zijn voorzien van gratis wifi, een tv en een eigen badkamer. In sommige kamers staat een stapelbed. De luxere kamers zijn modern ingericht en voorzien van een flatscreen-tv, en de suites hebben een zithoek en een bubbelbad.
Er is een tropisch zwemparadijs, een bowlingbaan, een bioscoop en een binnenkermis. Verder beschikt het hotel over drie restaurants en verschillende buffetgedeeltes en themabars, waaronder een bruin café en een Engelse pub.

This weekend we headed to Almelo in the Netherlands for a stay at the Preston Palace Hotel.(27-10-2019)
This bustling all-inclusive hotel and entertainment centre is about one and a half kilometres from Almelo de Riet train station, just under two kilometres from the Sint-Georgius Basilica and nineteen kilometres from Techniekmuseum HEIM.
The cosy rooms can accommodate up to six guests and come with free Wi-Fi, a TV and private bathroom. Some rooms have bunk beds. The more luxurious rooms are modern and equipped with a flat-screen TV, and the suites have a seating area and a whirlpool bath.
There is a tropical swimming paradise, a bowling alley, a cinema and an indoor fair. Furthermore, the hotel has three restaurants and several buffet areas and theme bars, including a brown café and an English pub.

Bezoekje aan Almelo in Nederland
We verbleven voor een weekendje in Preston Palace in Nederland, niet ver van Almelo. We maakten van de gelegenheid gebruik om een wandelingetje en bezoekje te brengen aan deze stad.(27-10-2019)
Almelo is een stad en gemeente in de regio Twente in de Nederlandse provincie Overijssel. De gemeente Almelo beslaat een oppervlakte van 69 km² en telt 72.849 inwoners. De gemeente
Almelo is ontstaan uit een fusie tussen de gemeenten Ambt Almelo en Stad Almelo.
Het P.M. Rogmanspark is een mooi parkgebied grenzend aan de Gravenallee van het landgoed Almelo. Zeer aangenaam om rond te lopen in de herfst omdat de hoge bomen hun bladeren verliezen en zonlicht de verschillende tinten van kleuren onthult. De fontein draagt bij aan de plezierige sfeer.
Vernoemd naar P. M. Rogmans, rentmeester (rentmeester) van het landgoed in het midden van de 20e eeuw met uitzondering van de oorlogsperiode toen hij werd gearresteerd door de Duitse bezetters.

Almelo is a city and municipality in the Twente region in the Dutch province of Overijssel. The municipality of Almelo covers an area of 69 km² and has a population of 72,849. The municipality of Almelo is the result of a merger between the municipalities of Ambt Almelo and Stad Almelo.
The P.M. Rogmanspark is a beautiful park area adjacent to the Gravenallee of the Almelo estate. It is very pleasant to walk around in the autumn as the tall trees lose their leaves and sunlight reveals the different shades of colour. The fountain adds to the pleasant atmosphere.
Named after P. M. Rogmans, steward of the estate in the middle of the 20th century with the exception of the war period when he was arrested by the German occupiers.
