Kandalaksha is the southernmost town of Murmansk Region in Russia. It is located 200km south of Murmansk and 68km north of the borders of Republic of Karelia and Arctic Circle. In the place where Niva river meets Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea. Founded in 1526.But the main development of Kandalaksha started in 1915 there when was built the Commercial Sea Port.
Then, in 1937 began the construction of «Niva GES-3 (Niva Hydroelectricity-3) which was launched in 1949.
After all, in 1951, was powered the Kandalaksha Aluminium Plant which is now releases 76,000 tons of aluminium a year.
