Lac du Bourget (Lake Bourget), also locally known as Lac Gris (Grey Lake) or Lac d'Aix, is a lake at the southernmost end of the Jura Mountains in the department of Savoie, France. It is the deepest lake located entirely within France, and either the largest or second largest after Lac de Grand-Lieu depending on season.
The largest town on its shore is Aix-les-Bains. Chambéry, the capital of Savoie, lies about 10 km south of the lake. The lake is mainly fed by the river Leysse (and other small rivers), and it drains towards the river Rhône through the Canal de Savières, an artificial channel. It is a Ramsar site. The extinct bezoule was found only in this lake.
The lake was formed during the last period of global glaciation in the Alps (Würm glaciation) during the Pleistocene epoch. It has a surface area of 44.5 square kilometres (4,450 hectares). The long and narrow north-south axis of the lake extends 18 km in length, and ranges between 1.6 km and 3.5 km in width. The lake's average depth is 85 m, and its maximum depth in 145 m. The lake is meromictic, meaning that it has layers that do not mix.
The lake is bordered by the steep summits of the Mont du Chat and the Chaîne de l'Épine on the west, and Bauges Mountains on the east, which form its shores. Lac du Bourget was made famous by several romantic poems of Alphonse de Lamartine, including Le Lac, as well as by descriptions by Xavier de Maistre, Honoré de Balzac, and Alexandre Dumas.

I look forward to my girls' weekend away in Aix-les-Bains every year. It is only a 45 minute drive from Geneva but there is also a convenient train direct to the town from Geneva.
I can recommend the Hotel Adelphia that is right at the port. We usually get the package with hotel room and demi pension which includes an amazing breakfast and 3 course dinner. We eat lunch in Aix and shop till we drop as well.
The Hotel boasts a great spa with pools. I usually pay around €400 for 2 nights in a shared room, 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners, and 4-5 treatments. Lunch and shopping spree extra... and in this particular case, flea market purchases extra too!

The casino Grand-Cercle is a casino located in France in the municipality of Aix-les-Bains , in the department of Savoie in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is located in the Palais de Savoie, which is a major architectural complex in Savoie , as well as the casino of Evian-les-Bains , a building also testifying to the desire of the House of Savoy to be among the major princely European families. The place is registered and classified as historical monuments
The Grand-Cercle Casino was inaugurated by King Victor Emmanuel II of Savoy in 1850 to reinforce the playful aspect of the spa town and thus attract high society and European artists to Savoie . The building inaugurated by the king was built by a Chamberly architect Charles-Bernard Pellegrini. The building at the time included in its central part a ballroom flanked by two lounges, one for the game, the other for reading and correspondence. Thirty years later, the Casino is expanding and expanding with two side pavilions. In 1899 , the building acquired a theater with 900 seats, equipped with wooden machinery. Four works by the painter Di Credico have been placed in the traditional games room (ball, roulette, blackjack ...).

The current footage was filmed by me in September 2021 - a season that represents an ideal mix of dry warm but not too hot weather and magical colors of the fall. Enjoy!
