Todas estas son algunas de sus cartas de presentación, cuyo as es la tradicional Feria de San Marcos.
Fundada en 1575 para alojar a los comerciantes que recorrían la Ruta de la Plata, la ciudad de Aguascalientes es un destino que hoy cuenta con una arquitectura digna de admirar, como el Templo de San Antonio y las grandes casonas que actualmente albergan museos y restaurantes. Escápate con nosotros y descubre el color y alegría de una de sus fiestas más famosas: la Feria de San Marcos.
La ciudad de Aguascalientes fue fundada en 1575 para alojar a los comerciantes que recorrían la Ruta de la Plata. Su nombre proviene de las aguas termales que brotan en las cercanías. Hoy en día alberga una hermosa arquitectura, tanto civil como religiosa, sobre todo de los siglos XVIII al XX que conjuga magníficas muestras del estilo barroco, neoclásico y ecléctico.
Aguascalientes está dividida en barrios con personalidades diferentes delimitados por una iglesia, un hermoso jardín y una comunidad, ya sea de toreros, grabadores o artesanos, que les otorgan un encanto único.
La capital hidrocálida también destaca por su sorprendente oferta cultural. En ella es posible encontrar museos de artes plásticas que invitan a conocer la obra de artistas reconocidos mundialmente como el gran escultor Jesús F. Contreras y el magnífico grabador José Guadalupe Posada creador de La Catrina y oriundo de esta ciudad.
Aguascalientes también es una ciudad fiestera. En sus calles se disfruta de un ambiente animado proveniente de los cafés, barrios y merenderos, especialmente durante los fines de semana, y de la Plaza de Toros Monumental, una de las más grandes del mundo. Sin embargo, esta alegría es aún más palpable en abril, durante la Feria de San Marcos –la feria estatal más antigua de México, cuando habitantes y turistas hacen de esta tranquila capital colonial un centro de diversión y buen vivir donde la música y las artes taurinas son los protagonistas.
10 imprescindibles de la Ciudad de Aguascalientes
1.Isla San Marcos. Sede principal del festival y un espacio para ir en familia. Pasea en lancha por su lago artificial, camina entre áreas verdes y diviértete en los juegos mecánicos.
2.Plaza de las Tres Centurias. Conoce el pasado ferrocarrilero de la ciudad mientras caminas por las antiguas instalaciones. Entra a la galería y disfruta de los talleres.
3. No te vayas de la ciudad sin tomar un temazcal o masaje en los Baños de Ojocaliente
4. Museo Nacional de la Muerte. Únete a la celebración y conoce la colección iconográfica de la muerte y el arte funerario en México presentadas en sus diez salas. En el camino, aprecia la obra del grabador Octavio Bajonero Gil.
5. Museo José Guadalupe Posada. Sede del Concurso Nacional de Grabado y sitio donde se alojan más de 3 mil piezas de varios maestros –Posada, Manillas, Fors, Tamayo y otros más–. Aquí te esperan también talleres, proyecciones y actividades de difusión cultural.
6. Aprovecha la cercanía y dirígete en punto de las 18 horas a Cenaduría San Antonio, una tradición de más de cuarenta años, ahí no dudes en probar pozole, tacos dorados, enchiladas o sopes.
7.Centro Histórico. Es el escaparate del Desfile de Calavera. Espéralo en algún café de la calle Madero.
8. Si andas por la calle Nieto entonces regálate un deshilado, bordado o artesanía típica.
9. Camina hacia la Plaza de la Patria y toma el tranvía turístico que te lleva por los principales atractivos de la capital hidrocálida.
10. Museo Descubre. Si viajas con niños, dirígete al sur de la ciudad. Entre salas interactivas, ludoteca, jardín de cactáceas, set de radio y tv, talleres y el domo IMAX, los pequeños encuentran el sitio ideal para despertar sus sentidos.

Calvillo Aguascalientes se encuentra cobijado por la Sierra Fría, que ofrece una gran cantidad de atracciones a los visitantes que se aventuran a conocerlo. Al llegar, te recibirá un delicioso aroma a guayaba que flota entre majestuosa arquitectura religiosa, como la Parroquia del Señor del Salitre.
Qué hacer en Calvillo
El Guayequito
A tu llegada súbete al tranvía “El Guayequito”, y comienza un viaje a través del tiempo mediante sus cinco rutas disponibles, que recorren los lugares más emblemáticos de la zona.
Podrás conocer la Presa de Malpaso, la Presa de la Codorniz, la Ruta de la Guayaba, la ex Hacienda de Vaquería, y la Ruta de los Cuatro Templos. Todas las rutas incluyen un recorrido por el Centro Histórico.
En el Centro Histórico visita el Santuario de la Virgen de Guadalupe que, con su estilo neogótico, sus torres y arcos construidos en cantera, deslumbra a los visitantes pues se iluminan durante la noche resaltando su belleza.
San José de Gracia Aguascalientes Pueblo Mágico :
En medio de Aguascalientes, rodeado de vasta vegetación y extensos espacios naturales, se encuentra el Pueblo Mágico de San José de Gracia. Es un lugar que exuda historia y promete aventura en cada uno de sus rincones.
Su plaza principal adornada con bellos jardines y un encantador kiosco al centro, alberga el Palacio Municipal y la famosa “Cabeza de Águila” hecha en honor al Padre de la Patria, Miguel Hidalgo, en conmemoración a su paso por el pueblo mientras huía de los españoles.
Qué hacer en San José de Gracia
Cristo Roto
Sin duda, esta obra del escultor Miguel Romo es la atracción del pueblo que convoca a la mayor cantidad de turistas y feligreses de todo el mundo. Es una imponente obra de ingeniería de su época, con 25 metros de altura y una base de 3 metros de concreto y acero, fabricada en conmemoración a las destrucciones que sufrió San José de Gracia cuando se construía la cortina de la Presa Plutarco Elías Calles.
El santuario se encuentra ubicado en la Isla de la Presa Plutarco Elías Calles, y es un importante centro de peregrinación y devoción cristiano, aparte de ser uno de los 5 monumentos más grandes de México.
Real de Asientos Aguascalientes Pueblo Mágico :
Real de Asientos (o sólo Asientos, como le dicen los lugareños) es un sencillo pueblo de origen minero enclavado en las cordilleras montañosas del noreste de Aguascalientes, y en sus calles se ocultan edificaciones que datan del año 1548 y que guardan tesoros históricos y culturales listos para ser descubiertos por sus visitantes.
Sus fachadas de cantera rosa y la riqueza natural hacen de este Pueblo Mágico un lugar encantador, que conserva edificaciones de arquitectura y arte virreinal así como jardines de primer nivel.
Qué hacer en Real de Asientos
En este pequeño pueblo es posible recorrer el centro histórico y sus deslumbrantes monumentos, visitar túneles subterráneos, apreciar arte sacro de gran calidad, e incluso escuchar las leyendas del cementerio más antiguo del estado.
Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Belén
Se ubica frente al jardín principal de Real de Asientos y se trata de una edificación de estilo neoclásico construida en el siglo XVIII. En su interior se puede admirar la campana más antigua del estado, traída de Europa en el siglo XVII, y su principal atractivo es un cristo articulado que data de hace más de 400 años cuya peculiaridad es que está hecho con restos humanos.
Acueducto Escondido de Asientos
El acueducto escondido es un pasaje subterráneo de la Parroquia, sus paredes son muy húmedas y se dice que se construyó a finales del siglo XVIII para filtrar el agua y llevarla hasta el río con el fin de evitar inundaciones.
Panteón de Guadalupe
En Asientos se encuentra el cementerio más antiguo de Aguascalientes, en donde solían enterrar a los españoles de acuerdo a su nivel social: sacerdotes y miembros del clero, ricos o pobres. Sobre sus muros se pueden apreciar imágenes del juicio final, y al recorrer sus pasillos se pueden encontrar osamentas e incluso momias expuestas, que se han convertido en motivo de numerosas leyendas.
Déjate encantar por sus tesoros naturales, las cascadas, las presas, y la imponente Sierra Fría.

We're enjoying Dia de Los Muertos celebrations in Aguascalientes, a TOTALLY underrated Mexican city.

We're celebrating our first ever Dia de Los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead to English speakers, in Aguascalientes Mexico. Before coming to this city, we had no idea what to expect for Dia de Muertos OR the city itself. Now, we can safely say that neither the hype about this Mexican holiday nor the city itself let us down. We had an absolute blast at the Isla de San Marcos celebrations in Aguascalientes and all across the city.
As the Dia de Muertos festivities come to a close, we try to enjoy the last bits of time in what we think is an incredibly underrated city in Mexico. Everyone talks about the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico in Patzcuaro and the surrounding cities or the big shenanigans in Mexico City, but we can't imagine why no one considers Aguascalientes!
We only planned to stay here for a few days during our Dia de Los Muertos trip, but the kind and generous people, polite drivers, beautiful sunsets, and charming culture have us planning another trip back to Aguascalientes PRONTO!! :)
