Ebonyi State is a South Eastern state in Nigeria majorly one of the 6 states created on the 1st of October, 1996 by the then federal military government under the leadership of late Gen. Sani Abacha. It was created from parts of Enugu State and Abia State.
Before the existence of Ebonyi state, it was formerly a part of the old Ogoja Province with Abakaliki as a government station for the administration of the surrounding localities in the then Eastern Region. It got to a level of Provincial Status when Nigeria attained independence in 1960; the provincial areas had three Divisions namely: Abakaliki, Afikpo and Obubara.
With the division of the former East Central State into Imo and the Anambra States in 1976 by the Federal Government of Nigeria, Abakaliki Province was Balkanized *split into two with Abakaliki Division as an appendage of Anambra State while Afikpo Division was attached to Imo State.

The primary source of income in these towns varies, though many rely on mining activities, agriculture, trading, and fishing as well as other small-scale commercial activities to sustain their residents’ livelihoods.

This is Afikpo, Nigeria
Afikpo is the second largest town in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Afikpo people are mainly traders, farmers, and civil servants. The town used to be a predominantly agrarian community with farmers making up the bulk of the population but that is changing as an increasing number of civil servants and traders call Afikpo home.
Afikpo is a mecca of ancient Igbo tradition and ceremonial (now antique) masks which have been carefully preserved. Some of these masks are on display in museums and for sale in art galleries worldwide.

An agricultural trade centre (yams, cassava, rice, and palm oil and kernels) for the Igbo (Ibo) people, the town is located in an area known for its lead, zinc, and limestone deposits. Lead has been mined since precolonial times, and limestone is quarried for a cement plant at Nkalagu, 27 miles (44 km) west-northwest. A university is located in the town. Pop. (2016 est.) local government area, 198,100.
Abakaliki, as in the past, is a center of agricultural trade including such products as yams, cassava, rice, and both palm oil and palm kernels,.[1] It is also known for its local lead, zinc, salt, and limestone mining or quarrying.[1][2] They host a golf course and many hotels. There are also isolated poultry and egg production farms across the state.[1]

Hello Beautiful people, thank you for stoping by to watch my Nysc camp experience. Filming this was the most enjoyable thing to do and a must watch if you’re been deployed to Ebonyi state or any other state in Nigeria.
All of my life I have never stepped the land of the rising sun on the east side of Nigeria, but the NYSC scheme offered me that opportunity on a platter of diamond.
This was the best gift I got as a Nigerian youth service corp member and I also hope you enjoy watching this!

The New Ebonyi State, Nigeria
Abakaliki is the capital of Ebonyi state which was created in 1996
The centenary city, it’s one of the newly developed areas in Abakaliki Ebonyi state, which was created to expand the city metropolis.
The project was started by the past government of the ex-governor Martin Elechi in 2014 when Nigeria was celebrating one hundred years of amalgamation.
Today, the present governor David Umahi has completed most of the project and beautifies the place.
The centenary city houses the new government house of Ebonyi state and lots of the state Ministries offices, with a good working environment, especially when compared to other sister states.

In late July or early August each year, Afikpo people in the United States are joined by those from Nigeria and other countries to celebrate the annual New Yam Festival and raise funds for the annual Medical Mission to provide free medical supplies and services to indigent patients in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, Nigeria.
The Festival and Medical Mission is organized by Afikpo Organization Inc, with the support of donors and volunteers.
