Another architectural highlight is the neo-Gothic Catedral Metropolitana. The popular beach neighborhood of Praia de Iracema hosts lively nightclubs, restaurants and the EMCETUR Tourism Center, a former 19th-century jail with craft shops in the cells, downstairs from the Museu de Arte e Cultura Popular. The Meireles neighborhood is known for its beach boulevard and nightly handicrafts market. The Dragão do Mar art and culture center features movie theaters and museums in a contemporary setting that contrasts with the 19th-century colonial buildings it neighbors. More details about what you see in this Brazil travel vlog:

► Buzios: The official name of the city is 'Armação dos Búzios', but everyone just refers to it as 'Búzios'. This is a beach community in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and a popular getaway for Brazilians and Argentinians. Basically an unknown fishing village until the 1960s, it was made famous by French actress Brigitte Bardot.

► Rua das Pedras: Translating, the name means stones' street, and that's exactly what you'll see. More than that, it's Buzios' main street, with an active nightlife and a nice variety of shopping and restaurants.

► Orla Bardot: Named after Brigitte Bardot, this is the strip of land that connects Praia da Armação with Rua das Pedras, the main street in town. Brigitte Bardot is also honored along the oceanfront path with a bronze statue.

► Praia da Armação: This beach is located downtown, next to Rua das Pedras and in front of Orla Bardot. To this date, it is still full of fishing boats. Their old houses have been restored and are now lovely restaurants and pousadas. From this beach, you can get the boat tours to the various other beaches in Buzios.

► WHO AM I?

I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged the life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer.

I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

P.S.: The guy who occasionally appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and is extremely shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time ;)

Cabo Frio: the BEST beach in Brazil | travel vlog

Cabo Frio again! This is my favorite road trip from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Cabo Frio is 100 miles (160 km) from Rio, and in my opinion, this is the best beach in Brazil. Why? The color of the water is crystal clear, the sand is so white and fine, and the weather is great for most of the time.

More details about what you see in this Brazil travel vlog:

► Cabo Frio: Cabo Frio is a city in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With no traffic, you can drive in two and a half hours (way more on holidays and weekends). It's famous for its white sand beaches with crystal clear and cold waters

► Praia do Forte (Forte Beach): This is Cabo Frio's most famous beach.
Overlooking the sea, on the far left, is 17th-century St Matthew fort with its rusted cannons. Entrance is free.
More about Praia do Forte in this other vlog:

► Ilha do Japonês (Japanese island): Beautiful uninhabited island at the beginning of the canal which serves the region's Araruama lagoon. There's no infrastructure in the island, but more often than not there are vendors selling food and drinks. There's a kiosk in front of the island on the Peró side, and it's easy to walk across the sea during the low tide.

► Passagem: This is Cabo Frio's oldest area, now fully revitalized. The neighborhood features colonial houses, many of them are now bars and restaurants. From Passagem you can get the taxi-boat to Ilha do Japonês for 15 Brazilian Reais

About Rio de Janeiro: Rio de Janeiro, or simply Rio, is the second-most populous city in Brazil and the sixth-most populous in the Americas. Rio de Janeiro is the capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazils third-most populous state, after São Paulo and Minas Gerais. Part of the city has been designated as a World Heritage Site, named Rio de Janeiro: Carioca Landscapes between the Mountain and the Sea, by UNESCO on 1 July 2012 as a Cultural Landscape. Founded in 1565 by the Portuguese, the city was initially the seat of the Captaincy of Rio de Janeiro, a domain of the Portuguese Empire. Later, in 1763, it became the capital of the State of Brazil, a state of the Portuguese Empire. In 1808, when the Portuguese Royal Court transferred itself from Portugal to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro became the chosen seat of the court of Queen Maria I of Portugal, who subsequently, in 1815, under the leadership of her son, the prince regent, and future King João VI of Portugal, raised Brazil to the dignity of a kingdom, within the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and Algarves. Rio stayed the capital of the pluricontinental Lusitanian monarchy until 1822, when the War of Brazilian Independence began. This is one of the few instances in history... Rio de Janeiro subsequently served as the capital of the independent monarchy, the Empire of Brazil, until 1889, and then the capital of a republican Brazil until 1960 when the capital was transferred to Brasília. City Description:
Belém, capital of the state of Pará, is a port city and gateway to Brazil’s lower Amazon region. By Guajará Bay, the riverfront district Cidade Velha (old town) preserves Portuguese-colonial architecture, including churches, colorful azulejo-tile houses and a 17th-century fortification known as Forte do Presépio. Ver-o-Peso is a vast, open-air market on the water selling Amazonian fish, fruit and handicrafts. Many of Belém's European-style buildings were constructed during the Amazon rubber boom of the late-19th and early-20th centuries. Among them are the neoclassical Theatro da Paz, a venue for symphonic concerts and opera. The Museu Emílio Goeldi, founded in 1866, explores the nature and cultures of the Amazon region. The Estação das Docas, a renovated warehouse complex overlooking the river, features bars, restaurants and music venues, and is a starting point for boat tours. Belém also has many green spaces, such as Praça da República square, mango tree–lined streets and the Bosque Rodrigues Alves botanic garden.

Weather and Events:
Belém has a tropical climate, and is hot and humid year-round. Heavy rain is common Jan–May, including during the traditional Carnaval festivities (dates vary, Feb/Mar). The Círio de Nazaré (Oct) is a huge religious procession, attracting Christian pilgrims from all over Brazil who come to honor a sacred statue of the Virgin Mary.

Rio de Janeiro is a huge seaside city in Brazil, famed for its Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, 38m Christ the Redeemer statue atop Mount Corcovado and for Sugarloaf Mountain, a granite peak with cable cars to its summit.
The city is also known for its sprawling favelas (shanty towns). Its raucous Carnival festival, featuring parade floats, flamboyant costumes and samba dancers, is considered the world’s largest.

1) Sugarloaf Mountain

One of the most beautiful attractions in Rio de Janeiro and one of the most famous in Brazil.
Sugarloaf Mountain (Portuguese: Pão de Açúcar ) is a peak situated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the mouth of Guanabara Bay on a peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean.
Rising 396 m (1,299 ft) above the harbor, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined loaf sugar.
It is known worldwide for its cableway and panoramic views of the city and beyond.
The mountain is protected by the Sugarloaf Mountain and Urca Hill Natural Monument, created in 2006.
This became part of a World Heritage Site declared by UNESCO in 2012.
A touristic landmark because the Cable Car opened on Sugarloaf projected Brazil’s name worldwide.
It has been the first cable car installed in Brazil and the third in the world.

2) Corcovado - Christ the Redeemer

In the top of the City is installed Christ the redeemer the most wanted touristic sides of Brazil and Rio de Janeiro.
Biggest and most famous scripture Art Deco of the world, the Christ statue started to be planned in 1921 and it was developed by the engineer Heitor da Silva Costa over 6 years of job, from 1925 to 1931, the opening year of the monument. Located at Parque Nacional da Tijuca, 710 meter above the sea level, where anybody can appreciate one of the most beautiful views of the city.
Over all 220 steps that lead to the famous statue feet, it was elected one of the Seven Wonders of the World made by formal voting in 2007 by the Swiss Institution New 7 Wonders Foundation.
The monument is accessible by train, van or car. To get into the monument, there’s a nice ride by train that, during 20 minutes, it crosses Mata Atlantica until Corcovado’s top.
The internet connection up there is good fre wi-fi and is a very safe place and LGBT friendly.

3) Ipanema Beach

Popularized by the song The Girl from Ipanema, this world-famous beach gives foreign visitors a sense of life in Rio, displaying a cross-section of different lifestyles, chic boutiques and eateries and luxurious apartment buildings.

Welcome to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! This week we got an up close and personal experience at one of the world’s biggest parties: CARNIVAL! This lively, colorful, and loud tradition originated in Rio de Janeiro, and today we’re giving you a look at all that goes into this long running tradition. Every year samba schools from around Rio practice extreme and elaborate choreographed shows that they’ll perform to compete for a slot in the main Rio Carnival event. We learned so much about the history of the event, samba, and the work that goes into making this event happen. Carnival is SO MUCH more than just a party– it’s tradition, culture, and heritage, and seeing the way the communities come alive for their friends and families in the samba schools was so special. Would you or have you attended Carnival? Let us know in the comments below!
