Azerbaijan is known for having nine of the 11 defined ecological zones. Much of the country is temperate year-round. Nation-wide the average temperature for the year is 14-15°C (57-59°F). The Caucasus Mountains protect the country from the Arctic air masses that affect Russia in winter while the Caspian Sea shields it from the hot, dry air of Central Asia in the summer.

Cabbage, grape leaves, and eggplant wrapped meat (kelem, yarpaq, badimjan - dolmasi), kabab (kebab), rice with different variety of toppings (plov - It is said that plov is the king of Azerbaijani cuisine), gutabs and meatballs (kufta) are some of the several specialties of Azerbaijan.

Some local drinks include ayran (a yogurt drink based on sour milk) and sherbet (made from rose petals or saffron). There are also different sorts of quite decent wines produced from local grapes and a wide array of mineral waters from natural springs. In some areas of Azerbaijan the markets offer lemonades (limonat/dushes) made from pears or taragon.

There is a good selection of hotels in Baku, including many Western chains, but options elsewhere in the country are limited. Prices for the hotels start from USD60 and higher. Rental apartments might be a good choice as they are cheaper than hotels and sometimes are even more comfortable.

In this trip our journey started at Shirvan . Shirvan is a city in Azerbaijan, located on the Kura River. It was called Zubovka until 1938 and Alibayramli until 2008. From 1938 to 1954, Shirvan possessed the status of a village. It obtained the status of a city of Republican level on January 4, 1963.

We arrived in the capital of azerbaijan Baku . Baku, the capital and commercial hub of Azerbaijan, is a low-lying city with coastline along the Caspian Sea. It's famed for its medieval walled old city, which contains the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a vast royal complex, and the iconic stone Maiden Tower. Contemporary landmarks include the Zaha Hadid–designed Heydar Aliyev Center, and the Flame Towers, 3 pointed skyscrapers covered with LED screens

Azərbaycan Respublikası Prezidentinin 2003-cü il 5 iyul tarixli 1298 nömrəli Sərəncamı ilə Bakı şəhərinin Qaradağ, Salyan və Neftçala rayonlarının inzibati ərazilərinin 54373,5 hektarında Azərbaycan Respublikasının Şirvan Milli Parkı yaradılmışdır. Kür-Araz ovalığının cənub-şərqi Şirvan düzənliyində ümumi ərazisi 65580 hektar olan xüsusi mühafizə olunan təbiət ərazisinin 54373,5 hektarında Şirvan Milli Parkı, 6232 hektarında Şirvan Dövlət Təbiət Qoruğu və 4930 hektarında isə Bəndovan Dövlət Təbiət Yasaqlığı yerləşir.

Milli Parkın yaradılmasında əsas məqsəd yarımsəhra landşaftının başlıca komponentlərini, Azərbaycan Respublikasının Qırmızı kitabına düşmüş ceyranları və o ərazi üçün səciyyəvi olan fauna növlərini qoruyub saxlamaq, ekoloji monitorinqi həyata keçirmək, əhalini ekoloji maarifləndirmək, turizm və istirahət üçün şərait yaratmaqdır.

Milli Parkın ərazisində relyefin, bitki və torpaq örtüyünün müxtəlifliyi burada bir sıra təbii landşaft sahələrini ayırmağa imkan verir. Ərazinin əsas hissəsini yovşanlı, şoranotlu yarımsəhra xırda təpəliklər və şoranotlu yarımsəhra düzənliyi təşkil edir. Qədim sahil tirələri, laqunlar müəyyən sahələrdə aydın nəzərə çarpır. Külək vasitəsilə yaranan əsas relyef forması–düyün təpəcikləri ceyranların sığınacağı və mühafizəsi üçün çox sərfəlidir.

Ərazidə yayı quraq keçən mülayim-isti yarımsəhra və quru bozqır tipli iqlim hakimdir. Burada çay və bulaq yoxdur, ərazini şərqdən Xəzər dənizi, şimaldan Baş Şirvan kollektoru, bir sıra digər kollektorlar, Çala (Qızılqaz) gölü və s. əhatə edir ki, bu da ceyranları su ilə tam təmin edir. Ərazidə Xəzərin, kanalların və gölün suyunun qışda donmaması ceyranlar və quşlar üçün çox əhəmiyyətlidir.

Milli Parkın ərazisində qaraşoranlı, şahsevdi, duzlaq-çoğanlı, yarımsəhra bitkiləri, çərənli-yovşanlı, yovşanlı-efemerli, yovşanlı, xos təkli, dənli-müxtəlifotlu, efemerli, sahil qumlu və çala-çəmən (dəvəotlu) bitki formasiyaları üstünlük təşkil edir.

Landşaft, iqlim və relyef xüsusiyyətlərinə görə Şirvan Milli Parkının ərazisində xarakterik suda-quruda yaşayanlar və sürünənlər faunası formalaşmışdır.

Palace of the Shirvanshah is the biggest monument of the Shirvan-Absheron branch of the Azerbaijan architecture, situated in the Inner City of Baku.
Shirvanshah Palace Complex, Baku
Shirvanshah Palace was built in Baku in the 15th century for the rulers of Shirvan in connection with transferring the nation's capital from Shemakha to Baku. The complex includes the two-story building of the palace, the tomb, the mosque, the divanhane, the mausoleum of Sayyid Yahya Bakuvi, the bath, the eastern portal and the gate of Murad (16th cent.).
The main building of the complex is the palace, which was started in 1411 by Shirvanshah Sheikh Ibrahim I. After his death the construction was continued by his son - Shirvanshah Khalilullah I. The laconic design, sunny tone of smooth surfaces of the walls, terrazzo lattice - shebeke of the upper windows and window slits of the lower floors of the building give it a unique expressiveness.

Şirvan Milli Parkında payız fəslinin soyuq hava ilə yanaşı, gətirdiyi istilik, canlanma ayrı 1 mənzərə yaradıb. Bunun nəticəsidir ki, səhra, yarımsəhra iqliminin hökm sürdüyü boz çöllər, hazırda ilmə-ilmə toxunan və rənglərin harmoniyasına qərq olan xalını xatırladır. Buranın bütün fəsilləri ecazkar rəngli olur. Ona görə ki 82 növ bitki örtüyü buranı hər mövsümə uyğun rəng çalarları ilə qarşılayır.
Parkın mərkəzində yerləşən “Qızıl qaz” gölü də payızın gəlişi ilə dəyişən məkanlardandır. Burada əksər köçəri quşlar, əsasən də qızıl qazlar qışlamaqla göldə canlanma yaradıblar. Dəstə-dəstə uçmaqla ecazkar mənzərə portreti cızan köçəri quşlar gölə gələnlərin ruhunu oxşayırlar.
Parka gəlməklə buranın daimi sakinləri ceyranları da yaxından və fərqli şəkildə görmək mümkündür. Bu fəsildə daha aktiv olan təbiət inciləri payızda adətən ailə şəklində gəzirlər. Bütün bu gözəllikləri istənilən hava şəraitində rahatlıqla gəzib, zövq almaq imkanı da var. Belə ki, safari tipli iki avtomobil turistlərin ixtiyarındadır.
Ümumiyyətlə parka təşrif buyuranlarda məmnunluğu artırmaq və təbiətin yaratdığı ezazkar gözəlliyi qonaqlara daha ətraflı çatdırmaq üçün Milli Parkın girişində İnformasiya Mərkəzinin yaradılması planlaşdırılır. Bundan əlavə müşahidələrin daha geniş miqyasda aparılmasını təmin etmək üçün “Qızıl qaz” gölünün yaxınlığındakı mövcud estakadanın yenidən qurulması nəzərdə tutulub.

THE BEAUTY OF SHAMAKI AND GABALA | AZERBAIJAN

Considerable demolitions and damages of Juma Mosque during the battles and earthquakes were the reason of restorative reconstructions of the mosque’s building. According to information of Imadeddin Isfahani - a chronicler of Seljuq’s epoch, beginning from 1123, Shirvanshah rulers resorted to Seljuq’s sultan Mahmud (1118-1131), for defense from forays of Georgians. The chronicle says that “the assailants demolished the mosque, knocked down the minaret, plundered in the city” at that time in Shamakhi.

This rocky waterfall that falls from the highest peaks of the Caucasus Mountains is situated in Gabala village Vandam. The Seven Beauties Waterfall name comes from the name of the 7 mountain roads that one will cross to meet the waterfall. It is tougher to reach here because the waterfall is fully frozen in the winter.

Nohur Lake is located in a natural groove among Gulluburun, Goydagh and Yumuru mountains. Nohur ghol which existed as a natural lake until 1949, used to be surrounded by a swamp covered with dense reeds and water plants and there was a lake with yellowish-green water in a deep groove in the central part of it. In 1949 a water-storage reservoir was constructed in the south part of this lake. Water of Damiraparan and Vandam rivers is spilt into Nohurgishlag reservoir. #lake #waterfall #beauty #mosque

Gizilagaj National Park. Azerbaijan

Gizilagaj National Park is located in the Lankaran region, on the coast of the Gizilagaj bay. This is the first large reserve created in Azerbaijan, its history dates back to 1929, and now, it is a huge state park, with an area of about 100 thousand hectares. The main treasure of the reserve is the abundance of migratory birds: most of the birds listed in the “Red Book” of Azerbaijan live here. Also, Gizilagaj National Park is included to the list of places of international importance, mainly as a habitat for waterfowl and semi-aquatic birds.

Qızılağac Milli Parkı Lənkəran rayonunda, Qızılağac körfəzinin sahilində yerləşmişdir. O, Azərbaycanda yaradılan ilk böyük qoruqdur, tarixi 1929-cu ildən başlayır, lakin indi sahəsi 100 min hektar olan genişmiqyaslı bir dövlət parkıdır. Qoruğun əsas xəzinəsi köçəri quşların çoxluğundan ibarətdir: Azərbaycanın “Qırmızı kitabı”na düşən quşların əksəriyyəti burada yaşayır. Həmçinin Qızılağac Milli Parkı, əsasən, su quşları və su kənarında yaşayan quşların yaşayış yeri kimi beynəlxalq əhəmiyyətli yerlər siyahısına daxil edilmişdir.

Shamakhi (Azerbaijan)

Shamakhi is a city in and the capital of the Shamakhi Rayon of Azerbaijan.
The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events throughout much of its two millennia of existence.
Shamakhi was an important town during the Middle Ages and served as a capital of the Shirvanshah realm from the 8th to 15th centuries.
The city is located in the most seismic area of the Caucasus and was hit by powerful earthquakes in 1191 and 1859, which was so destructive that the capital of Shirvan was transferred to Baku twice.
In its history eleven major earthquakes have rocked Shamakhi, but through multiple reconstructions it maintained its role as the economic and administrative capital of Shirvan and one of the key towns on the Silk Road. The only building to have survived eight of the eleven earthquakes is the landmark Juma Mosque of Shamakhi, built in the 10th century.
