On The Border of Sudan and Ethiopia

A 90 km/55 mile drive that took three hours from Asosa to the Sudan border town of Kormuk/Kumruk with a total population of 554 people; passing many Sudan refugee villages as we neared the border.

Permits in hand from Asosa and then additional permits given to us at a Government checkpoint, we drove another 5 km/3.1 to the Ethiopia/Sudan border. Conversations with military on the Ethiopian side who agreed to let us walk across the Sudan Border (a dried river bed right now), shake hands with Sudanese guards (no photographs of them), and allowed me to photograph the border itself with Steve and I standing in the middle of the border river bed. Ethiopia and Sudan have a friendly and mutual understanding regarding terrorism at this border point.

The Sudanese speak Arabic, and they, along with our guides were surprised and thrilled to hear us spout a three word Arabic vocabulary. I can now add Sudan to the list of countries visited. Is that a good thing...or a bad thing?

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Cape Town, South Africa with Ethiopian Airlines

This video covers our flight from the Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Cape Town in South Africa. It is an almost 7 hours journey in which we used the current leading airline in Africa, Ethiopian airlines.

(የኢትዮጵያ አየር መንገድ ጊቢ) Side Walk - Bole International Airport remises #2 Addis Ababa #2023

On this trip, I stayed at Bole Airport remises, the headquarters of Ethiopian Airlines. It was amazing, fun, clean, and beautiful. I left after 11 pm. I liked the place so much that I rested for a while and relaxed there. By the way Ethiopian Airlines was founded on 21 December 1945 and commenced operations on 8 April 1946 expanding to international flights in 1951.
The airline has been a member of the International Air Transport Association since 1959 and of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) since 1968. Ethiopian is a Star Alliance member having joined in December 2011. The company slogan is 'The New Spirit of Africa.' Ethiopian's hub and headquarters are at Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, from where it serves a network of 125 passenger destinations 20 of them domestic and 44 freighter destinations. The airline has secondary hubs in Togo and Malawi. Ethiopian is Africa's largest airline in terms of passengers carried, destinations served, fleet size, and revenue. Ethiopian is also the world's fourth-largest airline by the number of countries served.
Join me and you will see the beautiful, clean Ethiopian Airlines premises. Thank you

Donating Pens to An Ethiopian School

We took boxes of ballpoint pens and crayons with us to Ethiopia to leave at schools along the way. A ballpoint pen is unbelievably precious to the children and the only fair way to hand out pens is visit a school and let the teacher distribute.

Owner and guide of Trans Africa Tours taught us that in Mali on a group trip. He would harangue the teacher and students in French, Only the best students get a pen. You must study and work hard, to emphasize the importance.

Grand Renaissance Dam Research: Approaching a Gumuz Village for interviews

While a fire burns near to the village (you can hear the crackling in the video) we approach tukuls looking for villagers to speak with about the Grand Renaissance Dam. We eventually locate one woman, the others have gone to another location for a regional meeting. This research is on the human security dimensions of dam development. We collected 33 interviews with local Gumuz People over a 10 day period in November 2012.
