Here’s a basic cost breakdown of my Ethiopia trip with Abyssinian Nomads:
1. Omo valley: $200-250 per day with a local tour operator.
Includes guide, 4X4 land cruiser, camping equipment. Half board meals, lodges/hotels and entrance fees to all point of interests.
2. Simien mountains: $150 - 250 per day
Price includes local guides, 4x4 land cruiser, camping equipment. All parks and point of interest entrance fees. Comes with chef and park scout as well. There is a luxury lodge option for increased price.
3. Addis Ababa: $50 to $300 per day depending on style of travel
Higher prices would include hotel accommodation, famous city tour and coffee ceremony. With local guide and food tour.
4. Danakil Depression: $150-200 per day
It is advised to only travel in this region with local tour operators due to security concerns. Price includes 4x4 land cruiser, local guides, camping equipment, all park and point of interest fees, half board meals and a park scout from the Afar region to escort entire trip.
Lalibela: $100-250
Upper price includes local tour guide, 4x4 land cruiser, hotel/lodge accommodation. Half board meal and entrance to all Rock Churches of Lalibela.

Located in the Horn of Africa, Ethiopia is a rugged known both for its wonderful natural sites as well as its ancient cultures. It is filled with historic sites and ancient churches dating back more than 3 million years.
Ethiopia is located in the Horn of Africa and is known for its natural sites and ancient cultures. Visit places like Aksum's Dungur, the royal tomb Obelisk of Axum and the famous Church of our Lady Mary. Other places to visit are the Gondar, Fasil Ghebbi, Lake Tana - the source of the Blue Nile and the Narga Selassie Church. The Lalibela's Bete Maryam, Biete Medhane Alem, Yemrehana Krestos are worth a visit. The famous city Addis Ababa is known for the National Museum and the Ethnological Museum, the huge Ethiopian Orthodox Holy Trinity Cathedral, and the Harar.
The Heritage sites of the world are celebrated for having great cultural or historical significance, and it doesn’t hurt that they are also often majestic and awe-inspiring.
Every country has its own monuments and cultural heritage, which you can explore in our series World of Heritage. This series also features all the celebrated heritage sites on our planet as decided by the UNESCO.
Flying Ethiopian Airlines - How They Became the Biggest in Africa?
I flew on an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787 from Vienna to Addis Ababa. Find out Ethiopian Airlines latest onboard product in both Business Class and Economy class. The flight was overnight and took 5 hours and 45 minutes. Before landing, a beautiful sunrise greeted all passengers. Join me for landing inside the cockpit of Boeing 787.
After landing, I toured the passenger terminal and up to 10,000 passengers in the morning transit at Addis Ababa Bole Airport making it the busiest hub in Africa.
I was given a tour of the Ethiopian Airlines Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility where a Boeing 767 is undergoing cargo conversion. Then I went inside an Ethiopian A350 passenger freighter full of cargo in the cabin. Last, I went on a day tour in Addis Ababa city.
In next episode, I continue to explore Ethiopia and flew on their new A350 across Africa to Cape Town. Video:
Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela, Ethiopia [Amazing Places]
The 11 medieval monolithic cave churches were built or rather carved from the rock by king Lalibela in the 13th century to create a 'New Jerusalem'. In the video: walk around the 11 Lalibela churches, beginning with a morning mass at Bet Giyorgis, and following with Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Danaghel, Bet Gabriel-Rafael, Bet Emanuel, Bet Abba Libanos. At the very end - Yemrehanna Kristos church, located in a natural cavern, 40 km from Lalibela, predating the Lalibela churches by a century. The Lalibela Rock Hewn churches are UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Trinity (Saint Selassie) Ethiopian and Christian Orthodox cathedral Church s administration in Addis Abeba has preserved a variety of ecclesiastical articles in the crypt under the church where they can be seen by tourists.
Addis Ababa is the capital of Ethiopia and rises to more than 2,400 meters above sea level making it the highest capital in Africa.

From Lalibela to Addis Ababa (Biete Giyorgis & my introduction to Ethiopia's bustling capital) ????????
I spent my final morning in the historic city of Lalibela visiting the stunning Biete Giyorgis (Church of St. George), before heading to the airport to catch a mid-day flight to Addis Ababa, the bustling capital of Ethiopia.
My first day in Addis Ababa was productive, albeit brief, as I checked into my hotel in the late afternoon, then proceeded by foot to the Edna Mall area, where I visited the city's stunning Biete Medhane Alem Cathedral - the second largest Christian church on the African continent. I enjoyed being back in civilization and enjoying all the creature comforts that big city life has to offer, recuperating after my relatively arduous travels through the country's north.

ETHIOPIA: The stunning St. George's Cathedral ⛪ in Addis Ababa
Let's tour together the magnificent St. George's Cathedral in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Saint George's Cathedral is an Ethiopian Orthodox church in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. St. George's Cathedral in Addis Ababa is noted for its distinctive octagonal form. It is located at the northern end of Churchill Road in the city.
St. George's Cathedral in Addis Ababa was built on the ruins of an older church from the 15th century. It was named after St. George, after the Tabot (Ark) of the church was carried to the Battle of Adwa against the Italians during which the Ethiopians secured victory. The building was described in 1938 in an Italian tourist publication as a fine example of the European interpretation of Ethiopian church design.[3] The Italian Fascist authorities set the building on fire in 1937. The cathedral was later restored by Emperor Haile Selassie following the liberation in 1941.
