10 Best place to visit in Örkény Hungary

My big mistake? Only spending the day here! Budapest, Hungary: one of Europe's great cities.

Today I arrive in Budapest at the start of my journey east which will eventually take me to Chisinau Moldova. But I had a few hours here to try and tire myself out before the overnight train. Join me on a quick run round a city that clearly deserved more time!

Hi, I’m Steve, a travel reviewer from Scotland. Join me on my adventures as I discover my own country, often visiting places for the first time, so hopefully it's as much of an eye-opener for you as it is for me! Don't expect expert opinion, just a very honest journey of discovery. Sometimes featuring my intrepid sidekick Alicja, sometimes featuring adventures beyond the borders of Scotland. Enjoy!

Welcome to a nice scenic from Hungary, between the cities of Györ and Veszprem, over The Bakony mountains. The road passes by The Pannonhalma Abbey, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and the Zirc Abbey. On the mountainous section the road feels like a roller-coaster, with many altitude differences. Close to Veszprém there is also a ski area, popular by the locals, and there are many hiking and biking trails waiting to be discovered. Enjoy!

Budapest 4K Walk Fashion street to Deak Square and Madach Square

This is a Budapest 4K Walk Fashion street to Deak Square and Madach Square video. Starting the walk on Fashion Street to Deak Square where it is considered the center of Budapest. We will walk around the square showing viewers the park and the Budapest Eye, which is the Ferris wheel of Budapest. During the summer this place is quite packed with people sitting around the park enjoying a picnic or just having a drink with friends. It is also where you can find the Akvarium Klub where the club is beneath a swimming pool. After Deak square we head to Madach square where you can see one of the most interesting buildings in Budapest.

The history of Madách Imre Square and Street can be traced back more than a hundred years. The company that bought the shares of the Orczy property on the corner of Károly Avenue and Király Street asked for permission in 1928 to raise another building on their property, but did not obtain it until 1937. The building complex of Madách Imre Square is under historic protection, and the buildings of Károly Avenue are also protected. Today, we can find Telep, Központ, My Little Melbourne, Örkény Theatre and Castro here. Not far away is Deák Ferenc Square, where three metro lines meet, and Gozsdu Udvar also has an entrance from here. (Source:

The ancient city of Stobi - North Macedonia

The ancient city of Stobi is one of the most significant and well-known archaeological sites in the Republic of North Macedonia. The archaeological remains within the city walls occupy 27 hectares on three terraces . Stobi was established on the crossing point of the major vital trade routes that led from the Danube river to the Aegean Sea. The old city of Stobi was the largest city in the northern part of the Roman province Macedonia, later capital city of the Roman province Macedonia Secunda, an important administrative, urban, military, trade and religious center of two large empires: Roman and Early Byzantine. The town of Stobi was built in the Hellenic period, before the rule of the Macedonian king Philip the Fifth. This crossroad of ancient civilizations has left a rich historical and cultural legacy of the Stobi antique theaters, palace ruins, basilicas, brightly-colored mosaics and religious relics for visitors to enjoy today. Today, the remains of this famous archaeological site are equally easily approachable from the E-75 corridor of the international highway, thus making it very popular tourist destination in the Republic of North Macedonia.

Uncovering the Secrets of South Queensferry and Dalmeny House: Things You Never Knew

History of South Queensferry dates back to the 11th century. This beautiful seaside town plays major role in transportation for kings, queens, pilgrims or merchants heading to St.Andrews and kingdom of Fife.By the 14th century the town had become a Royal Burgh.Saint Margaret founder of this town was an English princess who was born in Hungary in 1045. Her family had fled to Europe following the Norman conquest. Margaret sought to emulate Christ by carrying out many charitable works, washing the feet of poor people and orphans every day.
She became known as the Pearl of Scotland”.

These days South Queensferry is a Quiet seaside town, full of colours, beautiful small shops, restaurants and small hidden gardens that you can explore during wandering around the High street. It is also a popular destination for bird watchers, seal photographers or engineering geeks. Actually, South Queensferry has a lot to offer for everyone. Definitely add this place to your travel list.

The Forth Rail Bridge is the oldest steel-constructed cantilever railway bridge in the world. The bridge was designed by Benjamin Baker. It has been opened in march 1890 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site This incredible masterpiece of engineering is hiding a little secret. It is a subsea crossing tunnel under the bridge as a passageway for miners. These days any evidence of tunnel entrance is no longer visible, but you can trace it on many historic maps or photographs.

John Muir way

On your way to Dalmeny estate and house, you are walking the famous John Muir way or at least just it's wee small part. John Muir way is a 134 miles adventure connecting the west and east coast of Scotland.

Dalmeny Estate
Dalmeny House & Estate is a gothic revival mansion and has been home to the Earls of Rosebery since 1662. Dalmeny House was completed in 1817 and sits in rolling parkland to the West of Edinburgh. The house is home to The 7th Earl of Rosebery with spectacular views overlooking the Firth of Forth. The house stands in a large wooded park and enjoys views across the Firth of Forth. I find this estate an ideal place to escape from the city. And one fact that nobody is talking about is that Micheline Roquebrune - wife of actor Sean Connery arrived with other family members at this estate to scatter pieces of his ashes here, as it has been one of his favourite places.

Cullen surprised us. And it wasn't just the soup.

It's a train and a bus (and a lot of hours) to get from Montrose to the wee village of Cullen on Scotland's North East coast (thankfully a bit before the area was hit by some pretty severe winter weather!). We have never stopped here before and the place was quite surprising to be honest. After building up an appetite with a wander around town, we ended up in the Rockpool Café sampling the famous local soup. I think you'll see by the thumbnail and title that we quite liked it! We also really enjoyed the journey to get here (especially the bus bit) and there's definitely some unfinished business in this corner of Scotland. We will be back for sure.

The ONLY UK FLIGHT to this Magical Island Nation. Atlantic Airways to The Faroe Islands

Edinburgh Airport is the only UK gateway to the Faroe Islands, with a couple of direct flights per week in the summer months with Atlantic Airways. This small, but fantastic, airline operate a small fleet of aircraft including helicopters which are used domestically between the 18 islands as well as maintaining search and rescue duties. Today's video will show you exactly what it's like to fly to the Faroe Islands, including how to get from the remote Vágar Airport (FAE) to the capital city of Tórshavn. Here's my itinerary for the trip:

12 JUN EDI FAE 17:10 18:35 RC415
15 JUN FAE EDI 13:05 14:35 RC414

Included in this video:
Both outbound and return flights
Transfer to the capital city - Tórshavn
A sneak preview of the wonderful Faroe Islands landscape
A slide at the end with useful info (including prices)

More to come next week from this incredible island nation.

I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You might not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)

I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation.

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotels especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature as often as possible, but I'm afraid she has a proper job so it can take weeks for our schedules to match up.
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links below for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for YouTube Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

England's Lake District - A World Heritage Site

In 2017, England's Lake District National Park was recognized as a United Nation's World Heritage Site. The park was created in 1951 and is the largest and most visited national park in England. It's located in one of England's most sparsely populated areas. Only about half a million call Cumbria County home but each year they host nearly sixteen-million visitors from around the world. When you watch this video you'll understand why.

My Gothenburg Experiment turned into something of an unexpected surprise...

Gellert Thermal Bath

The bath complex was built between 1912 and 1918 in the (Secession) Art Nouveau style. It was damaged during World War II but then rebuilt. References to healing waters in this location are found from as early as the 13th century. A hospital was located on this site during the Middle Ages. During the reign of the Ottoman Empire, baths were also built on this particular site. The magical healing spring was used by the Turkish during the 16th and 17th centuries. The bath was called Sárosfürdő (muddy” bath) because the mineral mud settled at the bottom of pools.
