This is my journey in Dalhousie, a hill station in Chamba district, in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, During Winter month February
It has some Beautiful destinations like:
- Khajjiar : Popularly known as Mini Switzerland
- Dainkund Peak :Dalhousie’s highest peak that watches over the amazing landscapes of the place
- Lord Shiva Statue : 80ft high statue over the hills near Khajjiar.

On 07-07-1992, Mr. Willy t. Blazer, Vice Counselor and Head of Chancery of Switzerland in India brought Khajjiar on the world tourism map by christening it Mini Switzerland. He also put a sign board of a yellow Swiss hiking footpath showing Khajjiar's distance from the Swiss capital Berne-6194 km. Khajjiar is among the 160 locations in the world that bear topographical resemblance with Switzerland. The Counselor also took from Khajjiar a stone which will form part of a stone collage around the Swiss Parliament to remind the visitors of Khajjiar as Mini Switzerland of India. It is about 6,500 feet (2,000 m) above sea level in the foothills of the Dhauladhar ranges of the Western Himalayas and snowy peaks can be seen in the distance. It is part of the Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary.
Khajjiar is often reffered to as Gulmarg of Himachal Pradesh.
.Khajjiar is a hill station in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, India, located approximately 24 km from Dalhousie. Khajjiar sits on a small plateau with a small stream-fed lake in the middle that has been covered over with weeds.
Khajjiar can be reached from Dalhousie and Chamba, the nearest major town and hill station, by bus/Taxi in an hour or so. It has a rare combination of three ecosystems: lake, pasture and forest, all in one place.
There is a Hotel and some cottages run by HP Tourism at Khajjiar where the tourists can stay . Besides there are two rest houses one each of P.W.D. and Forest Deptt. A couple of nice private hotels have also come up.
Travel
Most tourists travel to Khajjiar by private or rented vehicles. Bus service is also available to and from Khajjiar.
Places of Interest
The best entertainment in Khajjiar is to walk around the lake or to go for long walks in the thick pine forests. Children enjoy this place because of the freedom of movement and the slopy terrain which permits them to roll down to the lake without getting hurt. Another attraction like any other hill station is horse riding.Dhauladhar mountains:Dense deodars, pines and lush green meadows are characteristic of Khajjiar. Since Khajjiar is situated at the base of the Dhauladhar mountains, the tourists here can get panoramic views of the mountains
Khajjiar Lake: Khajjiar Lake is a small lake, surrounded by saucer-shaped lush green meadow and a floating island. The dense growth of weed called 'vacha' has made its earth spongy. Now the banks stand covered by a thick layer of earth, formed by the years of dust settling down on the weeds.
Khajjinag temple: A little away from the lake is the temple of Khajji Nag belonging to 12th C. AD. In the mandapa of the temple one can see the images of the Pandavas and the defeated Kaurvas hanging from the roof of the circumambulatory path. The sanctum of the temple has been beautifully carved from wood. This temple is dedicated to snake(Nāga) worship and there are some snake idols inside.

In this vlog we are going to visit the most famous places of Chamba First we are going to Khajjiar which is also known as Mini Switzerland We went to Khajjiar by Jot Road On the way, we first stopped at Mangala Village because the entire Chamba is visible from here which looks very beautiful After that we proceeded, the way to Khajjiar is going to be a tough climb and from there the view around is very attractive The snow-capped Dholadhar and Pir Panjal peaks are visible on the way to Khajjiar which will make your heart happy On the way, we saw a place where some creative people had done very beautiful paintings on big stones which looked very beautiful After that we found a gate from where the wildlife sanctuary of Kalatop and Khajjiar starts We had been driving for a long time, so we found a natural mineral water on the way where we drank water The view there was so beautiful that it is difficult to tell And from here Khajjiar was only 2 km Jai Jagdambe Temple is located at the entry of Khajjiar, where there is an 81 feet idol of Lord Shiva, we stayed there for some time and visited the temple After that we went to Khajjiar and Khajjiar's entry is so beautiful that it is difficult to explain it in words You will be surprised to see such a big ground and the lake in the middle after coming out of the dense forest and your heart will be happy to see its beauty In Khajjiar, we used to come for picnic in childhood used to bring food along with it at that time not many tourists come here Whenever you come to Chamba or Dalhousie then definitely visit Khajjiar because it is a must visiting place Here you can also do horse riding paragliding and this is a very good place for children because playing in such a big ground is more fun than anything else While roaming in Khajjiar we met an uncle who sang Pahari songs to us and we went round the entire ground of Khajjiar After this we went to the temple of Khajji Nag ji after whom Khajjiar is named In this temple, the entire history of this temple and the Khajjiar lake is written, you can pause the video and read it, which is quite interesting After that we ate something in Khajjiar and here a board named Chalo Chamba has been put up and took a lot of photos there So this ends our vlog and after that we left for our next destination

Farther west, Dalhousie is a hill station with mountain views, dotted with temples and 19th-century British churches.
Khajjiar converts into cold harvest from October to March. The chills of winter may seem severe and snow fakes take over the landscape. The temperature falls below the freezing point and the roads get blocked with landslides. Nothing stops a snow lover from rushing through the hilltops or just observing the flakes from a window sill.

The Khajjiar Trek
Snow treks are a delight to the visitors and popular in Khajjiar. A 1.4 km trek through the beautiful landscape and views of Khajjiar is breathtaking. The scenic landscape with streams and the folks of rich Deodar and Pine trees makes for a bewitching experience. With winters, though the trek can be a bit challenging, it provides a different perspective.
An 8.6 km Khajjiar trek from Dalhousie to Khajjiar is clearly marked. At the midpoint is the Pholani Devi temple at Dainkund where the trekkers can submerge into the panoramic view of the Himalayas.
Lord Shiva Statue
The glistening statue of Lord Shiva stands at 85 Ft is one of the tallest in state Himachal Pradesh. With a backdrop of Mani Mahesh Peak and the Jagadamba Mata Mandir, one cannot miss sighting it in Khajjiar.
Visitors frequent the statue in June-July while visiting a temple festival near the statue. In winter months, the statue masks itself in flakes of snow partially covering the bronze structure making the backdrop and the statue looks more majestic.
Kailash Village
The friendly community of local Khajjiar resides in the middle of the dense pine and deodar. With views of lush mountains, picturesque villages are apt to experience the local country life.Though popular throughout the year for the comfortable stay, relaxed environment and authentic Himachal food, the snow whipped mountains of Mount Kailash with green pastures rejuvenate the eyes greatly in winter.
The area surrounding the village is filled with apple orchards. Villages like Rota and Ladi should be visited, to experience the thrilling views.

The temperature in winters stays between 0 degrees Celsius at night (minimum) to 17 degrees Celsius during the day(maximum).
