I changed my mind at the last minute and decided to ride to Croatia today to see the coast!
I didn't cover a lot of distance this day but riding through the Biokovo National Park was all worth it!

[S1 - Eps. 121] UNDISCOVERED GEMS in CROATIA

Another day of riding the back-roads of Croatia!
I chose a small road snaking through the forests over mostly unpaved road. Being stopped there by the police came as quite a surprise! Later, some locals told me the police was mostly likely looking for illegal immigrants who are passing through Croatia. Well, I didn't see anyone!
What I loved about today was stumbling upon some ruins of the top of a hill which I paid a short visit.
After the morning of exploring, Basanti also got a small service and I got to stay in a great apartment because of the hospitality of Sinisa, the owner of motorcycle shop Novema Nova!

Alright people, I've almost reached the Netherlands! From Vienna to the border with Holland is about 1200 kilometers, so let's ride 600 kilometers today to make it half-way Germany.
Now is not the time for exploring. It is time for a mission: reach The Netherlands after being away for a year and seeing everybody again.
But let's not forget: it will be a short stay and I will prepare for the next adventure which will start very soon: Patagonia to Alaska!!

The BEST of Northern and Central CROATIA by motorcycle touring (we almost got the BIKE STUCK!)
The adventure continues in CROATIA! After crossing the border from Slovenia on 5th June 2022, we spend a week touring North and Central Croatia, 2up on our BMW R1200GSA. If you are planning on touring Croatia by motorbike (or car/van!), these are some of the highlights we would recommend:
1. MOTOVUN - beautiful small old town perched atop a hill, also famous for white truffle!
2. ROVINJ - charming little coastal town, worth a quick visit to explore a bit.
3. PULA - the Area is a must see, one of the best preserved Roman Amphitheaters in the world!
5. Road 66 - start at Plomin and drive this amazing coastal route towards Opatija (watch out for the local bikers!).
4. UCKA PASS - an incredibly fun riding road, located at UčkaNature Park, head towards Učka Tunnel, then avoid it and instead take the mountain pass up and over towards Brest.
5. KRK ISLAND - great place for a few nights camping, near beautiful beaches and olive trees lining the hills. Very relaxing.
6. PLITVICE NATIONAL PARK - this was our favourite place to see in Croatia and must not be missed! The waterfall and lakes are just breathtaking! A bit expensive to enter, but the park is laid out very well with paths that take you up close to the waterfalls, and give you panoramic views from the cliff tops, plus there is a boat and bus included in the price to help get around.
7. TROGIR - a gorgeous old town on an island, with a suepryacht dock right outside. This is where the money comes! But we thought one of the most beautiful old towns in North/Central Croatia.
8. KRKA NATIONAL PARK - similar to Plitvice, but a bit smaller, cheaper, and still well worth visiting! The waterfalls are stunning. Also, you are supposedly allowed to swim here!

Sailing Into The Storm: Our First Day At Sea [S1-E25]
Sailing into the storm. Our forst day at sea by Mojca Debeljak
For a long time, I wanted to be able to observe the sea from the sailboat. This year, I decided not to go over the top with my holidays because I also have some other plans and goals. But quite an unexpected came an invitation, to experience the sea on the home-made catamaran Ariki.
As soon as I arranged the most urgent matters, I drove with car to Portorož, where I was arranged to meet with my fellow “sailors.” An early morning ride through Ljubljana demanded its time tax, so the journey to the highway took a little longer than expected. Nevertheless, it was soon time to start my dream adventure.
CRAZY.
I did not think for long. I decided to let go, go with the flow and sail out, to somewhere unknown, it did not matter much to me. The most important thing for me was to go on a sailboat. The day before the departure, I learned that one member of our crew had abandoned the planned journey, so this became even more challenging for me. You wonder why?

Best Burgers In The World | Zagreb, Croatia
Who knew Zagreb has some of the best burgers in the world?! We spent two full days there during our trip to Croatia and were so surprised by the amount (and quality) of burger bars!! Hamer has had some incredible burgers but he puts these at the top. Check out why we think Zagreb has the best burgers!
