I’m Dan with Holiday Extras Travel Guides, and this time we’re here to help you travel better in Paris.
Coming up we have food, transport, money, some tips from the locals, and a whole lot more!
But first here’s some more about the city!

Paris is one of my favourite places in the whole world. With its grand boulevards, friendly locals, and first class cuisine, this city really has it all!
One of the best bits about Paris is how close it is!

Paris is connected to London by the Eurostar. Trains depart from St Pancras International in London, stop off at Ebbsfleet International, and Ashford International in Kent along the way. Trains start running at 5.40am and run every 60 - 90 minutes until 8.00pm.
You’ll need your passport and ticket ready to pass through airport style security and board the train.
However you can two bags, and there’s no weight restrictions to worry about! There’s an onboard cafe that sells hot food and drinks, and modern trains even have wifi. All in all the journey takes about two and half hours.
The EuroStar arrives at Paris Gare Du Nord, from here you can take the metro or a taxi to your hotel. We’ll have more on the Metro later!
Now if you’re flying in…
There are routes from most airports in the UK, and a flight will take between 1 - 2 hours, you’ll either land in Charles De Gaulle in the North East, or the Smaller Paris Orly in the South.
To get into the city from Charles De Gaulle airport, you can take Line B of the RER, trains take about 35 minutes to Paris Gare Du Nord, where you can find connections to the Metro and other public transport.
From Orly Airport you can connect to Line B of the RER line as well. Although you’ll need to take the Orly Val Shuttle Service from the airport to Antony train station first.

However, both airports are served by Air France’s transfer buses. There are two lines from Charles de Gaulle into the city, one from Paris Orly and a line that connects the two.

As with most cities we recommend getting around on foot, besides being eco-friendly, it’s a great way to get a feel for the city.
But just bear in mind that Paris is big. Like, really big. A walk from the Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame will take about an hour. Fortunately, if you’re strapped for time then there are lots of really good public transport links.

The subway system is split into the Metro and RER lines. Tickets will work across both so you can treat it as one big underground network. In our experience, it served a purpose which was to us around the city quickly. It’s just not the cleanest.

The Metro has 16 lines, each with a different colour while the five RER lines are assigned the letters A, B, C, D and E. RER and Metro trains run every day from 6 am until half past midnight.

As for tickets a single will cost you €1.90, we brought a book of 10 for €14.50. Now there are weekly and monthly passes available, but in my opinion, they’re just a faff! You need a Passport photo, and everything else, so I just say a book of ten is the way forward!

Important Things You MUST Know Before Visiting Paris (ft. Not Even French) | Paris Travel Guide

Planning to visit Paris soon? If so, Rosie from the channel Not Even French, who has lived in Paris for many years now, is the guest in the video, telling you the most important things to know for your first trip to London. You'll learn which French words you MUST know, why you should skip the Eiffel Tower (but what viewpoints you should go to instead), and more smart Paris tips for your visit.

Over on the Not Even French channel, Rosie and I talk about the differences between living in London vs. Paris. Watch it here:

As mentioned in the video (some are affiliate links):
Don’t climb the Eiffel tower, get a great view of it instead:
Chic/expensive restaurant with amazing view on the Eiffel Tower:
Cool rooftop bar/casual restaurant with amazing 360 views of Paris: - 14 Rue Crespin du Gast 75011 Paris
And many more suggestions:

Cool things to do in Paris:
Atelier des Lumières:
Women of Paris tours:
Have a drink on the river side at Rosa Bonheur:
Paris Food Tours (like Hip Eats and Back Streets):

**This video was filmed before the Notre Dame caught fire, which is why I mentioned it in the video. So sad to have temporarily lost this amazing monument. While we wait for it to be restored, I highly suggest visiting Saint Chapelle instead.

So I’m here with Tom from Discover Walks, and Tom is going to help me with some french Phrases!

Ok, so how do i say Hello?
Hello, basic one so it’s Bonjour!
I’m sure you’ve heard that before..
Yeah, yes!
Bonjour, ers yeah is the most important one, you wanna say Bonjour! Whenever you enter a shop, err if you buy your croissants, you need to say Bonjour! Ok, it’s the first thing to turn an angry Parisian into a normal person!
So goes from -1, to normal person!

What about Salut?
Salut? Oh yeah it’s for friends! Friends!

Err, so yes?! How do I say yes?!
Ok be careful because there’s two ways! There’s the Oui, you say in society, and the one with your friends.. which is ouiii, and people often think that’s two different words, but it just means the same.

Ok, and No?
Easy one!
Yeah, but the Parisian way is never just a non, it’s non… seven times in row!! Like. nonononononononon!! Something like that!

That’s the Parisian way!

Ok, arm Please!
Sil vous plait.
Sil vous plait.
This one is not easy to articulate! Try it again…
Sil vous plait.
Ok, good…
Thank you.. Merci.

My name is Dan.
mon nomme? Je m’appelle Dan.
What’s mon name?
My name is… it’s more formal. It’s weird to say that.. Mon nomme..
Je m’appelle Dan.
Oui, Je m’appelle Dan.

Ok, arm this one was quite useful.
Do you speak English?
Est-ce que vous parlez anglais?
Est-ce que vous parlez anglais?
Est-ce que vous - parlez - anglais?.
Est-ce que vous parlez anglais?
Almost no accent!

People will get it don’t worry!
errrr, they might tell you no I don’t,. In English..
That would just really confuse me I think.

Err I don’t understand.
Je ne comprends pas.
Je ne comprends pas.
Bravo! Well done!
Je ne comprends pas.

Ok, arm can we count from 1 to 10?
We can! You wanna try it?
Can I try it?

Go ahead… go ahead..

huit neuf dix

beautiful! Well .. bravo!

errm, where is the nearest metro station?
ermm it’s going to be… Ou se trove le metro?
It’s going to be where’s the metro? Ou se trove le metro Sil vous plait! But that’s a long sentence so you wanna memorise it?
Ou se trove le metro Sil vous plait!?
Sorry I’m going to fast!
Ou se trove le metro, and then… Sil vous plait!
Of course!!
Ou se trove le metro, and then… Sil vous plait!
Well done!
There you go!

How do I ask for a table for two? Please?
Une table pour deux s’il vous plait?
That’s an easy one!
Une table pour deux s’il vous plait? Oui!

Err, I would like?
Je Voudrais!
Je Voudrais!

Err I would like the frogs legs…please.
You don’t really want the frogs legs..
No I don’t think I do!
It’s one of the meats of a Parisian.. I’ve tried it the first time 5 months ago! First time in my life.. It’s… ok, ok, it’s a mid between fish and chicken!
Oh ok…
It’s very small, but i was very unwell afterwards.
Err… Je Voudrais les cuisses de grenouilles S’il vous plait?
Err… Je Voudrais les cuisses de grenouilles S’il vous plait?
de grenouilles
de grenouilles - ah see this one is tough! de grenouilles!
de grenouilles - ah oui. de grenouilles.
de grenouilles! Ah yes!
ok, de grenouilles s’il vous plait!
ok, now go ahead…
Je Voudrais les cuisses de grenouilles S’il vous plait?
You have it? It’s a tough one..
I might just skip that one!!
Ask for the croissant! Le Croissant..
Je voudrais le croissant s’il vous plait.. Une…croissant..
Duex Croissant
ahhhhh duex!

Err can I have the bill please?
L’addittion s’il vous plait?
L’addittion s’il vous plait?
L’addittion s’il vous plait?!

How much is it?
C’est combien?
C’est combien?

Thank you?

Good bye?
Au revoir!
Au revoir!
I’m using an English accent - Au revoir!
Au revoir!

Thank you very much!
You’re welcome!
Thank you!

Thank you!

24 Hour Layover in Paris (how to have the perfect day)

We are back!! After our 3 week social media detox we are heading back out and the cheapest flight out of LA was to Paris where we will be having a 24 hour layover!

After arriving in Paris and checking into our incredible room at the Peninsular Paris, we crashed after the jet lag hit us before waking up at 4am in the morning.

After a super tasty breakfast we headed out to see as many sites as possible in 24 hours including
- Arc de Triomphe
- The Louvre
- Notre Dame
- The Eiffel Tower

Before we crashed out and had a mid day nap. After waking up several hours late we headed to Le Tribeca for some baked camembert cheese then did a river tour around the city before ending our time on top of the Eiffel tower planning our next adventure.

Thanks so much to the Peninsular Paris for allowing us to stay and making our layover extra special:
