LAOS is a Hidden Gem You MUST Visit! ????????

This Laos Travel Vlog sees us visit the beautiful capital city of Vientiane. With its stunning temples, markets, and architecture, its place on the Mekong River makes it as stunning a visual destination as it is an exciting one to travel.

In this video, we speak about how relaxing it is to be in this city, whilst searching for the famous Laos Sandwich, and taking in the famous Vientiane Night Market on the riverside.

We have so much coming up in this Laos Series, including driving from Vientiane to Vang Vieng, all the way to Luang Prabang - any recommendations are welcome!

Vientiane Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Vientiane in Laos.
Since the 16th century, Vientiane has been the capital of Laos and is situated in the heart of Indochina. The city originated at the point at which the first navigable section of the Mekong River joins with the Gulf of Thailand.Vientiane was once a group of rural settlements and even today contains several village-like districts, each with its own temple and traditional marketplace. At the end of the 19th century, the French began to renovate the city’s most important buildings and made Vientiane the administrative capital of their new colony and gave it a French look. There are some fascinating places to visit outside the city, such as the Cultural Park of the Laotian People, a large area on the banks of the Mekong River. Historic Vientiane also has some fine reconstructed buildings, such as the Wat Inpeng on the western bank of Pagoda Street. Artistic wooden carvings on the windows and doors, along with the paintings and stucco work on the walls, feature various legends from the life of Buddha. Some signs of affluence are beginning to appear and in future years, Vientiane may become yet another Asian metropolis with skyscrapers, smog and manic rush hours. It is now poised to leap into contemporary times, as it gradually emerges from its atmospheric curtain of bamboo.

The southeast Asian country of Laos is a hidden gem among its more popular neighbors of China, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Its rich cultural diversity comes from the 49 ethnic groups that influence the food, arts, customs and festivals in the country.
The country is divided into north, central and southern regions, each with lush landscapes and an inviting atmosphere. The unspoiled jungle habitat of Laos means you might see an elephant strolling on your way to breakfast or monks walking the roadways.
The best experiences in Laos are the spontaneous ones that you have by interacting with the locals and witnessing daily life in the country. You can also explore the many natural, cultural and historical sites, as well as several UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Laos Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Laos.
Laos is a tropical country in the heart of Indochina and was once known as ‘The realm of a million elephants’. Set amid mountains and surrounded by China, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar, Laos lay undiscovered for many years but today it is gradually opening its doors and its dreamlike royal cities, contemplative temple complexes, mysterious plains and ethnic mountain villages are now accessible to all. The capital, Vientiane, originated at the point at which the first navigable section of the Mekong River joins with the Gulf Of Thailand, once an important trading route to South China. We travel north into the pure Asia of bygone times, a land full of adventure where there is little tourism, past many villages with small markets at the roadside and various temple complexes. Most of Laos consists of rugged mountain areas and only a small number of roads connect the country’s few large towns. We repeatedly pass through large valleys flanked by densely wooded mountain slopes until karst covered mountains appear and reveal yet another captivating landscape. Amid this romantic area on the banks of the Mekong River is a town that is one of Laos’ most impressive historic destinations, Luang Prabang, which became the official residence of the monarchy in 1453 and remained so for several centuries. Thirty five monasteries that accommodate around seven hundred monks as well as a thousand novices and also the city’s many splendid temples highlight the deep religious faith that determines the everyday life of Luang Prabang. Laos is one of the most fascinating countries in South East Asia: a sleepy paradise that is slowly awakening. It is a land trapped somewhere between age-old traditions and a modern way of life.

After arriving in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, we rested for a few days and ran around for some visa work (to take you to the next country). Then we rented a scooter and rode around the city visiting some must-see attractions in Vientiane like the Buddha Park, the Golden Temple and the Patuxai. But through the day, we had quite a few bad experiences that made the day difficult to enjoy... (its not Laos, its us)...

First Impressions of Vientiane, LAOS | Exploring The Capital City

It was the first time visiting Laos for us and we began in the capital, Vientiane.

All the places we visited in this vlog were in close proximity to each other (short taxi/tuk tuk ride) or by walking.

▸ Patuxay / Patuxai Victory Gate (war monument)
▸ Wat Si Muang
▸ Wat Sisaket
▸ House of Fruit Shakes
▸ Food Market
▸ Vientiane Night Market

???? TAXI APPS ????
▸ Loca
Worked with linking Visa credit card and also has Loca Pay where you can scan QR codes at vendors with them to pay). It's in English, easy to use and no hassles of needing to negotiate with drivers. It's not available in every city though but was all good in Vientiane.
▸ inDrive
We weren't able to link credit card, so when we use it we pay with cash. Rates are a bit cheaper than Loca.
▸ Xanh
The cars are easily recognisable by their turquoise branding. Rates are suppose to be the best but we weren't able to link credit card. You can pay with cash though.

Traveling to Laos? Watch this video to discover the highlights of Laos!

Are you traveling to Laos for your next holiday? Are you still undecided on which countries to choose for your trip to South East Asia? If it is going to be your first time in Laos, do not miss these highlights!

Laos is a small country in Southeast Asia, neighbour to popular destinations like Thailand and Vietnam. The country boasts of a pristine natural climate and also houses rich ethnic diversity. From exploring its traditional villages to learning about the rural culture and lifestyle to discovering some of South-East Asia’s most spectacular waterfalls, Laos is an exciting ecotourism destination. The country is officially a Buddhist nation, where people speak Lao with little to zero English speaking ability. Nevertheless, the people are friendly and always ready to greet you with a wide smile and welcome you to their beautiful nation.

Capital Vientiane presents a delightful combination of French architecture and Buddhist temples. While in the city, don’t forget to stroll around the historic old quarter, visit its temples and go shopping in the silk shops. The gold-covered Pha That Luang, outshines (literally!) every other monument in the city and is one of Laos’s most iconic landmarks. It is a Buddhist stupa that can be dated back to the 3rd century and is said to house the breastbone of Buddha himself. The Patuxai war memorial arch and the colourful Wat Si Muang are other major attractions of the city. Xieng Khuan, popularly known as the Buddha Park, lies 25 km from the capital and contains over 200 statues of Buddha and a few Hindu deities.

Laos’s former royal capital, the ancient city of Luang Prabang is packed with Buddhist and French structures. The 16th-century Buddhist temple Wat Xieng Thong, features impressive architecture and elaborate designs. The 100m tall Mount Phu Si with the That Chomsi stupa on top is a popular climbing spot and is bounded by the Mekong River on one side and the city’s old town on the other. It serves as a great observation platform too, offering splendid views of the town and magical sunsets. Vang Vieng, located between Vientiane and Luang Prabang, is where you can experience Laos’ most stunning landscapes of limestone mountains, caves, and paddy fields. It is the adventure capital of the country and offers amazing rock climbing, hiking, caving, cycling, kayaking, tubing and swimming.

Northern Laos is popular for its rich vegetation and riverside villages. Nam Ha National Park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna along with various ethnic groups and is popular for trekking tours. The riverside Nong Khiaw village is popular for its great food, boating and kayaking.

The Phu Hin Bun National Park, in Southern Laos, is famous for the karst limestone cave of Tham Kong Lor which can be explored by a memorable boat trip. The beautiful Mekong river archipelago of Si Phan Don, which means four thousand islands, offers multiple activities like trekking, kayaking and cycling. It won’t take much time to understand why this place is known as the land of lotus-eaters as the islands are covered with beautiful white lotuses.

Laos today resembles how southeast Asia was, a couple of centuries ago. Through the years, the natural and historical wealth of this landlocked nation have remained untouched. So travelling here is no less than a time-travelling journey that presents a very unique and extraordinary experience.

Must visit places and experiences in Laos: Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Vang Vieng, Si Phan Don, Tad Lo, Nong Khiaw, Tham Kong Lo
