Things to do in Dubai for Cheap or Free - Budget Activities
There's tons of things to do in Dubai, but you're probably on a budget, so you're looking for ideas on activities that are cheap or free, right?
Good news - you don't have too much to have fun in Dubai (and Abu Dhabi). First, we recommend walking around the Dubai Malls, especially just to see the grandeur, and stick around for the light and water show at the Burj Khalifa, tallest building in the world.
Dune smashing is the top activity right now in Dubai in 2019, so we had to include that in our travel vlog. It'll cost you about $30 on average, and that was with pickup at our hotel.
Lastly, go ahead and rent a car for $30 and head to Abu Dhabi - you've got to see the Grand Mosque and the Emirates Palace, both beautiful structures that will leave you in awe.

Layover in Dubai | Largest Mall in the World | Desert Safari + Sand Dune Driving
We had one day to explore Dubai on our long layover home from South Africa. We booked a hotel room for the day, visited the largest mall in the world, and took a desert safari. I'd recommend preordering tickets to the top of the Burj Khalifa, the current tallest building in the world, if you're interested in it. We ended up skipping it because the only tickets available were pricy in-person and late in the evening.

Come along with us as we go on our first ever Desert Safari! The dune bashing was so exhilarating and we were terrified at the time but looking back, I feel like we all formed core memories that day. And that sunset... how is this real life? Such an incredible experience and I'd really recommend it to anyone who is visiting Abu Dhabi or Dubai (apparently this is about half way between the two).

If you're visiting or a new expat, your rite of passage is a desert safari. The desert safari was one of the most memorable events during my time in Abu Dhabi. This safari was led by Phoenix Safari and included dune bashing, sand boarding, belly dancing, and a grand Arabian Buffett.
