Places to see in ( Valence - France )
Places to see in ( Valence - France )
Valence is a city in southeast France. It’s home to St-Apollinaire Cathedral, dating from the 11th century. The Valence Museum offers art and archaeology displays, plus views over the Rhône Valley. Jouvet Park features canals and a rose garden. Carved heads adorn the 16th-century Maison des Têtes. Across the Rhône River are the medieval Château de Crussol and the Soyons Archaeological Site, with its caves and museum.
Capital of the Drome department, Valence is a sleepy city overlooking the Rhone River. An hour from Lyon and Grenoble and in close proximity to vineyards producing Crozes Hermitages, St Joseph and St Peray wines, the city makes a wonderful stop off for wine tours of the region. The much-loved Kiosk De Peynet stands on the Champ de Mars and is one of the highlights of this small city - and a good place to start your visit. This ornate bandstand with beautiful views of the decorative gardens and fountains of Park Jouvet below, the Rhone and further Chateux Crussol high up in the distance inspired the artist Peynet to base his romantic love story here.
For those interested in the more historical sights, Valence old town boasts the Maison de Tetes, a 16th century house whose facade, corridor and inner courtyard are decorated with the sculped figures including heads of Ancient Greek nobility and, on the facade, the winds, time and fortune as well as law, theology and medicine are represented. Close by are also the roman cathedral of St Appolinnaire containing features unique to the Rhone region and The 'Pendentif', an ornate funeral monument to Canon Mistral erected in 1548. A walk along Grand Rue and its surroundings takes in all of these sights and offers a wonderful chance to view the quaint cafes and boutiques that line the narrow medieval streets.
Despite it’s large student population, Valence nightlife is notably quiet. However, from the more traditional (if touristic) restaurants around Place des Clercs serving Provencal dishes and Drome specialities, to the more varied tastes such as Greek, Indian, Tex Mex and Chinese around Place de la Pierre and Place St Jean, there is always something to satify your apetite.
Enjoying a leisurely lunch in the sunny market square is a must. Valence is also home to the gastronomic experience that is Pic, a 3 star restaurent owned by internationally renowned chef, Anne Sophie Pic. A wide selection of cafes and bars are scattered throughout the centre, along with 2 small nightclubs.
For those in search of something more unusual, a short journey should be made to the surroundings of Valence to the Jean Perdrix park. At the centre of this large green space are the two giant ‘Water Castles’, standing at over 50 metres above the water. These award winning examples of 1970s architecture are one of the lesser known features of Valence.

- Plonger dans la vie des mineurs de l’époque dans la Mine Image ;
- En apprendre plus sur la biodiversité au Centre de la Terre Vivante ;
- Admirer le lac de Laffrey aux eaux turquoises ;
- ...
- la vallée du Vénéon ;
- la cascade de la Pisse ;
- l’Alpes d’Huez ;
- Vénosc ;
- la Barre des Ecrins ;
- ...

Valence, France, 4K, Walking Tour, Beautiful City in France
Valence on google maps:
is a commune in southeastern France, the prefecture of the Drôme department and within the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. It is situated on the left bank of the Rhône, about 100 kilometres (62 mi) south of Lyon, along the railway line that runs from Paris to Marseille.
It is the eighth-largest city in the region by its population and has 64,726 registered inhabitants in 2018 (132,556 inhabitants in the urban area (unité urbaine).[5] The city is divided into four cantons. Its inhabitants are called Valentinois.
Located in the heart of the Rhone corridor, Valence is often referred to as the door to the South of France, the local saying à Valence le Midi commence (at Valence the Midi begins) pays tribute to the city's southern culture. Between Vercors and Provence, its geographical location attracts many tourists. Axes of transport and communications are the A7 and A49 autoroutes, the RN7, Paris/Marseille TGV line, as well as the Rhône. In addition, the Valence agglomeration is equipped with a marina [fr], a trading port [fr], two railway stations (Valence-Ville and Valence-TGV) and an airport. Its business is essentially turned towards the sectors of agriculture, metallurgy, engineering and electronics.
The commune, founded in 121 BC, after the invasion of Gallia Narbonensis by the Romans, it moved quickly to become the largest crossroad behind Lyon.[8] With its growing importance, Valence gained the status of Roman colony. Over the centuries, the town grew and grew. Today, many vestiges of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, but also from the 17th century, 18th century and 19th century are visible in the city centre. The city is historically attached to the Dauphiné, of which it forms the second largest city after Grenoble and is today part of the network of French Towns and Lands of Art and History. Formerly the duchy of Valentinois, it was ruled by the Duke of Valentinois, a title which is still claimed by the Sovereign Prince of Monaco, though he has no actual administrative control over the area.
Monuments in Valence include the Maison des Têtes [fr], built between 1528 and 1532 by Antoine de Dorne, the Saint-Apollinaire Cathedral, built between 1063 and 1099 under the leadership of Bishop Gontard and also the monumental fountain [fr] designed by the architect Eugène Poitoux. The city has many historical monuments [fr], most of which are in Vieux Valence [fr]. Inscribed on the list of floral towns and villages of France, Valence is one of the seventeen municipalities of the Rhône-Alpes region to be labeled four flowers by the Concours des villes et villages fleuris, i.e. the maximum level.

A Walk Around the River Isere in Grenoble, France
The Isère is a river in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of southeastern France. Its source, a glacier known as the Sources de l'Isère, lies in the Vanoise National Park in the Graian Alps of Savoie, near the ski resort Val d'Isère on the border with Italy. An important left-bank tributary of the Rhône, the Isère merges with it a few kilometers north of Valence.
Many riverside communes have incorporated the Isère's name into their own, for example, Sainte-Hélène-sur-Isère and Romans-sur-Isère. The department of Isère is likewise named after the river.

In this video I walked from the neighborhood of Carnolès by the beaches all the way up to the medieval castle in the old village of Roquebrune.
Roquebrune-Cap-Martin is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department Côte d'Azur France, between Monaco and Menton. The area became fashionable in the 1920s and 1930s leading to the construction of several notable buildings including Coco Chanel's La Pausa on Cap Martin. Le Corbusier built a cabanon, a minimalist architectural design. He drowned in the sea there on August 27, 1965 and was buried in the local cemetery. Despite its name, the Monte Carlo Country Club is located in Roquebrune and not in Monte Carlo, Monaco. It is the venue for the tennis Monte-Carlo Masters.
Roquebrune-Cap-Martin has several villages and towns: St. Roman, practically a suburb of Monaco (but not part of Monaco proper, as it does not lie within the borders of Monaco), the residential areas of Cabbé, Bon Voyage and Serret, Roquebrune with its perched village and château, the posh Cap Martin peninsula and the seaside resort of Carnolès, with its long pebble beach bordering Menton.
This video mostly focuses on the medieval village of Roquebrune and the breathtaking views on the Mediterranean sea.
