EXPLORING A MASSIVE SPANISH SUPERMARKET! ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
I always think it's really interesting visiting supermarkets in new countries. It gives you a real insight into the local diet, and the local culture. So Yoly and I decided to dive into the massive supermarket in the outskirts of Madrid to give you guys an insight into what's there. We check out Spanish potato chips, the massive selection of jamón, lots of interesting meats (blood sausage, rabbit, pigs' brains and snout and more), cheeses, more cured meats and so much more.
But beyond that, we also dove into the frozen food section to see what we could find (yes, we found frozen paella in Spain!). And we also explored the enormous olive oil section, with everything from normal olive oil, right through to extra virgin olive oil (which is pretty cheap in Spain!).
WHO ARE WE? ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Hola, Spain lovers! We're James and Yoly. James is a New Zealander, and Yoly is from Spain. And we both live in Madrid. This channel is all about giving you a local insight into life in Spain, and helping you experience this country like a local when you come to visit (or live!). If that sounds like your kind of thing, bienvenido!

How an Indian Stew Shaped the Modern World: From Cleopatra to Queen Elizabeth
What is “curry”?
How do you define a category that includes so many of the world’s most beloved dishes- from Thailand to India, Africa to the Caribbean? A category of coconut soups and onion-based stews, Thai-Khmer steamed fish mousse and even samosas and curry puffs?
To find that answer, we look at the spices that link so many of the world’s diverse curries together, and trace those back to their point of origin- the Big Bang from where the entire world’s curry culture emerged.
And we’ll also find out how the word “curry” entered the lexicon and why its use is so controversial and to some, so offensive.
-Thanks to our guest, Chef Keith Sarasin. Here is a link to his channel: @chefKeithSarasin

Video Notes:
* Introduction to Excursions or Private Tours from Katakolon, Greece: *
The stop at Katakolon needs a tour for sure. There really isn’t much to do around the port. The only reason cruise ships stop here is for Olympia. I’m glad I got to see it because I would never fly to Athens and make the drive out to see Olympia, so this was a nice chance to see the things I read about in history books growing up.
I highly recommend a private tour company vs. any tours that you can book on the ship. Having your own private car and personal attention, especially on a short day like this one, was key.
Sights:
The first thing we did was see the archaeological museum. It would have cost an extra 130 euros if we wanted her to go in with us and explain everything we see.
I didn’t go to the olympic museum because we didn’t have enough time. Our tour guide told us that it was pretty boring because it’s basically just a rectangular ruin.
Hermes and the infant dionysus, by Praxiteles: this statue was discovered to be in very good condition in 1877. This statute is famous for being incredibly polished. Hermes is carrying the child dionysus to the nymphs who were charged with his rearing. The arm is missing, but they think he could be holding out a bunch of grapes for the child.
Nike of Paionios: This is an ancient statue of the Greek goddess of victory named Nike. It was originally on a pillar near the tempe of Zeus. This statue was installed to honor the recapture of Sphacteria from the Spartans in 425 BC. This is a statue of the greek goddness of victory which shows her gently landing on her left foot. This is where the brand Nike got its name.
The west pediment of the temple of zeus: this shows a big battle between centaurs and ancient Greeks. This was built around 460 BCE and it has 42 figures in total. It's crazy to see how well preserved it was and how emotional some of the figures are.
The Statue of Zeus at Olympia was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was a giant Zeus sculpture on a giant wooden throne with gold, ivory, precious stones and ebony. Sadly it was destroyed over time, possibly by fire or looting.
The second part of the museum was a big open land where some of the ruins still stand. I can’t believe they allow you to walk into the ruins and touch them. We didn’t spend that much time here because it started pouring.
Palaistra: This was part of an ancient gym, and helped to train some of the wrestlers and other athletes.
Philippeion: was erected by Philip II, King of Macedonia after the victory of Chaeroneia in 338 BCE. Originally there were 18 Ionic columns and inside were gold and ivory statues of Philip's family.

Buy Me A Coffee
Hi! I'm An Scott. I'm a happily retired woman in my late 60's, with my “golden years” on
the horizon, living the “good life”, with my fun husband Jeff, and our “bossy” little Yorkie, Bella.
I created this channel for like-minded “middle-agers” and (reluctant-refusing to accept that we're really that old) seniors on the path to or already embracing their “Golden Years”. On this channel, a “lifestyle” channel, I’ll share videos about travel, dining out, health tips, beauty, sexuality in our “mature” years, and all of the issues that affect us as we age and try to stay beautiful, sexy, energetic and vital…in our golden years.
Early in 2024, when my husband retires we plan to move from the USA to Nice France and live out our “golden years” on the sunny Mediterranean coast of southern France. Moving from the USA to a foreign country is no small “project”. Subscribe to my channel and as we progress through the steps of doing that, you’ll be able to follow along through each stages of our preparation and then catch up with us, as we settle in to our new life.
For now, come with us as we embrace our days and nights living everyday as though there is no tomorrow.
I hope you’ll subscribe to my channel, join our Facebook community connect with me on social media and share your thoughts and comments here or there. If there are any topics you’d like to see us share or “visit” with you, please be sure to let me know! NOTHING IS OFF LIMITS! I’m happy to talk about all of those things us “older” women think about but rarely say out loud. So feel free to send me suggestions in the comments, always.

France, in Western Europe, encompasses medieval cities, alpine villages and Mediterranean beaches. Paris, its capital, is famed for its fashion houses, classical art museums including the Louvre and monuments like the Eiffel Tower. The country is also renowned for its wines and sophisticated cuisine. Lascaux’s ancient cave drawings, Lyon’s Roman theater and the vast Palace of Versailles attest to its rich history.

Travel through 800 years of history at the Château of Clos Lucé
During the middle age (1214 – 1417) the domain belongs to the Amboise family, who gave the land of Cloux as a gift to the religious Cistercian order of Moncé, an abbey founded in Limeray, under the protection of the lords of Amboise.
The saga of this pink bricks and freestone domain, built over gallo-roman foundations, begins under the reign of Louis XI, in 1471. Given by the king to his favourite Etienne le Loup, an ennobled kitchen man, the Château du Cloux was surrounded by fortified walls. The place is then bought by Charles VIII on July the 2 nd 1490 to become the royal residence of the kings of France.
The king turns the fortress into a pleasure castle and builds an oratory, true jewel of the gothic architecture, for his wife Queen Anne de Bretagne. The young duke of Angoulême, future king Francis I, spends a lot of time in this château.
At the end of the XVII century, the Château du Clouxis named Château du Clos Lucé. It’s recovered by the Amboise Family who saves it from destruction during the revolution, and then, in 1854, it becomes part of the Saint Bris Family.

Paris, France's capital, is a major European city and a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture. Its 19th-century cityscape is crisscrossed by wide boulevards and the River Seine. Beyond such landmarks as the Eiffel Tower and the 12th-century, Gothic Notre-Dame cathedral, the city is known for its cafe culture and designer boutiques along the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.

TRIP REPORT | British Airways | Airbus A319 | Stuttgart-London Heathrow | Economy
This video shows my experience when doing a short-haul flight in Economy with British Airways. To be more precise I booked Economy Plus as it includes 1 piece of Luggage and free seat choice 48 hours prior to departure. Overall the flight was fine although when booking this flight some things were not that clear on their website (e.g check-in, e-ticket). Unfortunately there was also a crying baby for most of the flight but hey there is nothing one can do about it and one just has to put up with it ;) The flight time is 100-110 Minutes. This of course varies depending on how many are in the queue waiting to land at Heathrow. Seats were also comfortable and headrests are adjustable. During the flight there was also mood lighting.
Scheduled departure time Stuttgart: 11:20
Scheduled arrival time London Heathrow: 12:10
Aircraft: Airbus A319
Seat: 7A
Travel class: Economy Plus
Airline: British Airways
My rating: 7/10
S-Bahn routes to Stuttgart Airport (Flughafen-Messe): S3, S2 (I did not take the S2)
