THE GAMBIA: A country of ferries, rivers and mangroves // EPS. 6
From Senegal we drove to the Gambia - the smallest country on Africa's mainland that is dominated by the Gambia river. We took the slowest ferry ever, made new friends at the border (I included a little guide on how to cross borsers in Westafrica ;) ) and went on another ferry from the town Barra to Gambiad capital Banjul. On the way we stopped several times to soak in the atmosphere and fly the drone above the beautiful mangrove forest.
//NOTE: videos were recorded before I had a Youtube Channel - initially used for my Instagram stories. That's the reason for the close ups of my face - they were recorded vertically. I still decided to use them - that's the authentic footage I have and I can't change that anymore. Remember: I just started out with filming and cutting - its a learning curve and far from perfect! If you mind seeing my nose hair every now and then, I can highly recommend you to skip this part of the journey and join again when I will publish my next trips after the country Benin with hopefully improved footage!
// Welcome to the journey! I am Lea, a journalist and author and I want to take you with me on a motorcycle overloading adventure to all the wild and beautiful places in the world!
//Join the first stage of my trip around Africa along the coast of Westafrica through 12 countries: Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin.
Time of the journey: November 2019 to Feburary 2020
// I circumnavigated the world solo from 2016-2017 and now I am going to all other places I have not seen yet. Now on the channel: my motorcycle trip around africa/ the first stage of the journey through westafrica.

Lazy Day Cruise along the River Gambia
Staff member, Kathryn Burrington's short video from her experience of our Lazy Day Cruise, April 2016.
It was a great opportunity for a spot of bird watching while simply drifiting along. The birds we saw included Spoonbills, Sacred Ibis and Yellow-billed Storks. Loved swimming from the boat and the lunch and was great too - a perfect day. Kathryn

My First Time Sailing: On The RIVER GAMBIA : In A Small Boat: Denton Bridge/Fishing
.Gambia|OUR JOURNEY sailing ON THE RIVER GAMBIA for the first time sailing on a small boat+Denton Bridge Gambia and fishing. Our journey on the vast River Gambia Africa We are SAILING on the river Gambia on a small boat (brave) A group of us took a trip sailing on the River Gambia. The journey was exciting as there was so much to see on the way. Sailing on the River Gambia in a small boat can be a scary experience but It was a liberating feeling once I got over the fear of the river. The whole journey turned out to be very rewarding . I now know that fishing is therapeutic for me #africagoodlife#gambia#africa
although next time I will not be sailing in a small boat on the River Gambia. I will hire a bigger boat that can Mange the River Gambia.

we arrived at The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust in Sambel Kunda, where we got Neil and Paddy (the donkeys from for the expedition. It was our day off from walking around The Gambia so we took a boat ride out past Baboon Island to see if we could catch a glimpse of the baboons. Florio shot this footage.

Whether you jet over to immerse yourself in The Gambia’s world-class birdwatching, its golden sandy beaches or its exhilarating culture and vibrant atmosphere, there’s always something ready to captivate holidaymakers visiting The Gambia for the first time. While it may be mainland Africa’s smallest country, The Gambia is big on attractions and appeal, promising to be one of most exciting and diverse destinations in the continent. One of my favourite corners of the continent is West Africa. The Gambia, in particular, is a popular holiday destination with the British thanks to its golden sandy beaches, year-round hot weather, colourful culture and friendly English speaking locals. It’s in the same time zone as we are too which is handy! For many years, I worked for a tour operator to West Africa, visiting regularly for over a decade, both for work and on holiday. While many tourists rarely leave the beach or the poolside, there are no end of things to do in The Gambia, even on a tight budget. It’s a fabulous place to explore.in this video, we are looking into Top 10 Places To Visit in The Gambia!

The most beautiful river in Gambia is the Halahin River. Kurumbo Lodge offers wonderful boat trips
Kurumbo Lodge is located on the wonderfully tranquil and fish-rich Halahin River and is considered a largely unspoiled natural paradise.
The dedicated Dutchwoman Ria Rugge and her great team do everything for the guests to make their stay as pleasant as possible. Currently, up to 10 guests can stay here overnight, but after Christmas 2023 there will be a large and lovingly furnished round hut, then ... up to 14 guests could comfortably get to know this wonderful idyll.
The food is also worth a mention: healthy and delicious and is - largely - organically produced. Fruit and vegetables are harvested on the huge forest-like lodge grounds and a great deal of attention is also paid to animal welfare.
Reasonable accommodation prices also in winter 2023/24: an overnight stay for two people including breakfast in the main building costs only 1800 GMD Dalasi (currently approx. 25 EUR) and the lovely round hut is 2000 GMD Dalasi (28 EUR) incl. breakfast for two persons.
River trips are available from 850 GMD Dalasi:
Special feature of Kurumbo Lodge: Ria and her dedicated team offer comfortable river exploration trips on the Halahin River or fishing tours. The river is considered to be very rich in fish and there are baracudas up to 2 meters long and other great sea creatures. The water looks murky, but the organic quality seems to be good.
River trips are available from 850 GMD Dalasi (approx. 12 EUR) per passenger.
Conclusion:
This is a great place for families to relax, for children to play undisturbed and there is a huge playground in the forest, no annoying cars and the nearby Halahin River promises great boat trips or kayak tours.

Sunset mangrove cruise in the Gambia (Banjul area)
We did a four-hour boat cruise in the mangrove creeks south of Banjul to see the sunset. Thereafter, we continued our journey to eat dinner at Lamin Lodge. From there, a buss picked us up and took us back home. Overall, it was a very pleasant cruise and we really enjoyed the time trip.

The Gambia - Gambia River - Travel Doc
The Gambia, officially the Republic of The Gambia, commonly known as Gambia, is a country in Western Africa. It is the smallest country on the African continental mainland and is bordered to the north, east, and south by Senegal, and has a small coast on the Atlantic Ocean in the west. Flowing through the centre of the country and emptying into the Atlantic Ocean is the Gambia River. On 18 February 1965, The Gambia was granted independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; and joined The Commonwealth. Banjul is its capital but the largest conurbation is Serekunda.
Through the Gambia River Delta Mangroves
We rode for 15 minutes from Denton Bridge to the main channel of the Gambia River. We saw no other person or boat; just mangroves and water.
